“Fifty bucks?” Ethan gulped, coffee eyes wide as he looked towards the honey eyes of Ostana who just smirked and held her hand out, ready for payment; I laughed as my eyes darted between them. “I swear we said twenty,” 

Pushing past Ostana and locking her front door behind me, my back hit the door for only a second before I wrapped both arms around my best friend tightly; my sobs invading the otherwise quiet house. Jackson's shitty car passed by and not knowing if he saw me enter her house or not, I gripped Ostana's hand as she fired question after question and led her down to her basement where her bedroom of aqua blue sat; Heaven in my case. 

“I’m sorry,” I tried again after Emrys had finished inspecting my bruised neck, cleaning a few bite marks Jackson’s teeth had left but thankfully everything would probably heal if not by tomorrow the next day; no words were exchanged except the few curses my mate would mutter as he looked at my bruising skin. When Emrys checked my waist and saw finger-like bruises painted there, silver pushed through the grey in his orbs. 

"You need to call your mother!" Ostana pushed past me as I opened the front door of the following afternoon, the sky painted orange and shades of deep blue as the November sun began to set, casting its rays through my new neighbourhood like puzzle pieces, and Laker smiled at me as he walked up to the door. A twinge of cigarette drifted off of him.
