Chapter Twenty One
The entire universe slackened the moment Russel stepped out into the dreary street. To be more precise, every speck of atom in the globe stood still. From the wind that blew through the dull brown draperies to the flicks of light that found their way into the dark room like the bright red pinpoints of a sniper to even the queer hoots of bats that bath the starless night. They all came to a halt making every second seem like five.Deep down in us, we knew we couldn't just run off leaving Russel behind despite his rather stern warning. Even if he died, we'd have to know it or even worse, die, too.We were in dread, utmost apprehension precisely, and our faces had turned cloudy white.Maisie stood close to Sheryl who was caressing her wrists with the other hand - their shoulders nudging confidence into the other in the pitch black room.I stood about three feet from them, cl

Chapter Twenty Two
The next two days were conventional. We shared secrets, bonded, cracked jokes, pulled out several pranks on each other - not too nasty of course, had as little illumination as possible to keep Maisie stable, stole hot little smooches with Maisie when the others weren't looking, for privacy's sake, buried Buster - their now late golden retriever, and ate pizza, too much of it but amidst all this, Russel was behaving queer. Was it about two nights ago?The blue sky where bats meandered around at dusk wept for hours too long the previous night like it was lubricating the way and bringing us to our doom faster, the businessman and Sal.About them...**Dusk's cloak was casted off as the golden sun gave a bright colour to the clouds and meadows and mountains, valleys, too. It bath all things within reach of its reddening beauty with yellow light, drying up the fields and

Chapter Twenty Three
It was Monday, three days after Leonard was nowhere to be found that Maisie was void of enthusiasm and entirely depressed. She still didn't have any idea where to start looking for her five year old brother. It was too sudden; a moment she was talking to him, planning to amuse him with a tech skate and even grab a coffee before heading home, and the next moment, she was wailing and searching about for him.Her parents didn't have any idea though, any time they wanted to talk to their baby - and his friend, Micheal - Amaya offered to do it, went up to her room then came down with false tales that ate her up with remorse about how Leonard was enjoying Michael's place and how they'd played peekaboo or tic tac toe.Amaya took the sticky note with her everywhere she went - the kitchen, bathroom and virtually everywhere. The sticky note's content had:"THE SHIP THAT WILL NOT OBEY THE HELM WILL HAVE TO OBEY THE ROCKS", written in

Chapter Twenty Four
The businessman had two Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk waiting - a dull red colour with two men in it and the other, the colour of the clouds, another two men in it - all four armed to their fingernails, waiting at the emporium's exit for the face in the picture each man held tensely, as they sat in the confines of the unique automobiles, waiting for him to pass through.**None of us had our driver's licence with us and I was the only one with some knowledge of the three of us. I got into the coachman seat, Sheryl sat in the backseat and Maisie, on my right. As I turned on its ignition, the new engine hummed to life with a collected, uniform buzz.I drove slowly out of "Car_Go" with the streamlined, black Jeep moving at and with my command which was actually Sheryl's who knew every inch of the market.Javaughn's Hearth was glued on my mind, it seemed like the safest place in the world where we could lay lo

Chapter Twenty Five
Her parents had alerted the police and immediately, they had come pouring in large numbers trying to get every information they could of Leo. Amaya's family wasn't one to mess with and the cops knew that who ever found Leonard, alive, will not lack in his entire life. But Amaya knew better than to stay at home and reply cops who deep down, were up to no good. She put on a little concealer, lip stick, perfume, she packed her hair into two pony tails one to the left, the other to the right and she left for school, leaving her bereaved parents and the cops behind.**"He's here I guess" Amaya asked Mer."Yeah, seen him already, he looked white, something's going to happen soon, my gut's telling me".They had a plan, it wasn't much of one but it was a good start and basically, it was stalking. The duo went to the classes they had in common together, split when th

Chapter Twenty Six
Mrs. Spikes, as we ended up knowing, was a contrasting figure compared to her green eyed husband. She was tall - roughly over six feet, I guess. Quite fat, had deep brown eyes that sunk in and a few strands of black hair that poked out of her jaw which was just one of her many queer features. She was in a stained and extremely long black skirt that started from her waist, went way down her long legs and reached down to her dirt smudged sandals and I got that funny feeling that it had once been a drapery. She had a cold smile that caused her lips to twist in a weird form like a squeezed rubber but other than that, she looked like someone that was born to live in Javaughn's Hearth.Just about a minute after she met us, Mr. Spikes, the green eyed dwarf, gave her a quick scowl which I managed to catch and she strutted away. "I'll be attending to the goat", she said as she took her leave.Javaughn's Hearth was

Chapter Twenty Seven
The businessman sat quietly in his hotel room, his phone and guns next to him, on his bed with his fingers in one another. He was thinking about his schemes. So far, they'd been as successful as he'd wanted them to be and although there had been a minor flop, paperwork containing the blue print of everything he had planned rested on the desk, right next to him.He took a handful of his brown beards and tugged it gently to its maximum length before letting go and repeating the action. He had lost one of his finest men and a lot of damage had been done to his bullet drilled cars when he'd sent them to get Russell, the girl with him, and Sheryl, who had betrayed him, but he wasn't bothered about that, he was irritated over the fact that the men he sent failed. But he went through his blueprint and chose the next most effective plan, Sal.**Sal got home that evening weary. He still couldn't

Chapter Twenty Eight
Mer took Sal's phone and passed it on to Amaya to go through while she went to distract Sal on his way back, creating more time for thorough scanning. Before Mer went with Sal, she'd told Amaya his password."Good luck with it", Amaya had told her then winked before going in the direction of the male toilet to lurk around.Amaya who was skeptical about invading people's privacy, phones especially, took a quick glance at the cafeteria, the man that Sal had locked eyes with wasn't around and no one seemed to be paying attention to her, or the phone. She felt funny as she typed in the password leaving his privacy at her mercy. She went through his call logs, one particular number kept reappearing but it had no name, she went through his text messages, nothing of interest was there, love messages with Mer, an "I'm on my way already" to his mum and a few random texts. She dropped the phone with a sigh, her and Mer sti

"Hurry", Mer anxiously said."Okay, okay", Amaya whispered back.Amaya held her skate firmly under her armpit as she snuck up to her room. Her and Mer had come back to her home to get prepared. She went back into her house using her hands in the dark the way an insect will use its antennas but her hands weren't half as effective and she came to realize that as she hit her leg against a step. All things being normal, she would've yelped a little but things weren't normal, they were far from it and she kept the pain that swelled about ten times bigger than it's original size in three seconds inside her, only muttering a few words to let the pain go like all of the Pacific escaping to a desert drop by drop as she imagined an ugly red boil present on her big toe.She got to her room, unlocked her door and noiselessly placed her skate on the ground. She took a look around, the moon only allowed her to see a few things but she s

Chapter Thirty
My heart was drumming against my ribcage and my head throbbing against my skull as I dashed down the dark, wooden stairs. From the fourth storey, I bolted down the third in about half a minute, as I was on my way to the second, my left leg sunk into one of the stairs that dissipated into lots of sawdust.I tried forcing my feet out of it but it was stuck about seven inches into it and crowned at the surface with sharp edges that dug into my flesh causing small streams of blood spread across the stairs and down my leg.I didn't have much time for a stupid, rotten staircase made of wood so I tried yanking my leg out of it but that was a horrible mistake as waves after waves after waves of colossal pain tore through my left leg almost making it go numb.I squinted up into the dark where I'd come from to see if maybe whoever it was that I'd chased was anywhere around, about to take revenge on me for shooting him but he wasn't and despite
