She was ready with the handle of the pistol in her hand. Somehow she wished that this whole thing would have gone away for a minute, and she could feel something, but she knew she was numb.“What the hell is going on? Who is that? Why do you have blood on your sneakers?” Cheryl was screaming at David, and Deanna could see them both pacing around something in the front room, but it was just their shadows.“Ma’am, I don’t think you should continue.” On

Deanna hadn’t expected him to react that way even though she hadn’t meant to say it out loud though it had been in her head.“Nothing.” She said as she looked out the window.   Deanna took a step back with Henry in her arms now as Max moved forward quickly. He was now bent down, trying to get an answer as to what they saw. He turned to look at Deanna, who backed up some more as he called for back up from the front of the house. He knew he had to find out what they saw.As the police came running around the building, they saw the four officers that were now on the ground out of breath and covering their eyes like the sight was still before them. Max looked at the men on the ground and said loudly to them, so they focus on him, “Watch her and the baby. Do not let anything get to them.”They nodded and then looked at her and Henry, who was watching with his bri

He blinked as he looked at the floor. He couldn’t believe it. It had to be something else, but as he bent down, he knew it was real. Two blue eyes that looked exactly like Deanna’s and Henry’s were peering back at him. The newborn that still was messy from delivery was barely moving and looked to have a blueish tint to its skin. He scooped the baby up and could feel that it was cold to the touch, and he began to run up out of the room and then up the stairs as quickly as he could. “I need an EMT here now!” Max bellowed out as he got into the fresh air, and Deanna’s eyes went wide as she saw him carrying the bundle in his arms.“Not another one,” Deanna said softly as she ran over to Max. “Where is its mother?”

She looked down at the baby, and she smiled softly as she knew everything in her life had been turned upside down, and nothing was what it seemed. Though they knew that she could be stunted in ways right now, she was perfect.“What’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours?” Max said as she put the baby down in the middle of the floor, still in her car seat.“Max, we went from just us to now the four of us in a matter of days.   The four of them sat together on the couch for what seemed to be hours just enjoying the relative quiet. It was Deanna who finally broke the silence. “I can’t go to the funerals for my parents.”“We don’t have to think about that right now,” Max said as he rubbed her back as she snuggled into his side a bit more. “Right now, nothing is planned, and you don’t have to even think about it.”“The rest of them will make a big deal about it,” Deanna said with a sigh as she looked up at him. “This is such a mess. I can’t do it though whether I say it now, or later I refuse to go.”

Her phone started ringing constantly. She was trying to ignore it with everything that she was, but when Max picked up the phone and looked at the caller ID, he tossed the phone to her. “If you ignore everyone, they will keep calling.”“I don’t want to talk to them,” Deanna said as she put the phone on the table as she went back to watching television with Henry snuggled up next to her.“Then let me talk to them,” Max said as he picked up the phone.“Go right ahead.” Deanna laughed.  “Well, Deanna, I mean that isn’t the rudest thing you have said when picking up the phone,” Indie said as Deanna could hear the self-righteous tone take over. It was the same one her mother had used throughout her life when Deanna had stood up for herself and wanted to go her own way instead of the one her mother had planned out for her. Now she knew it had to be to cover up how she really was, mentally disturbed and controlling. “I wanted to discuss Mother and Father’s services with you, and then we will have to talk about Justine’s at a later date.”“Indie, you don’t have to discuss anything with me about the services I won’t be going to any one of them except Justine’s,” Deanna said, and it felt like a weight was lifted off her chest.
