Chapter Twent-One ~ Aubrey, He's Gone
I stretched in the bed, and every muscle I had still ached. It took a few seconds for me to remember why. When visions of last night flooded my mind, a huge grin spread across my face. A little moan escaped me as I rolled over, laying my arm across Jesse’s stomach. For a minute, I thought I had dreamed last night, but it was real. He was real, and it made the butterflies swarm my stomach. Opening my eyes, I let my gaze roam over the man beside me, blushing as I scanned his muscle-covered body. Then I remembered kissing and licking those muscles and even biting. I’d never been a biter, but the way he made me feel last night, I couldn’t stop myself from sinking my teeth into his shoulder. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d do half the things I had last night, and truthfully, I couldn’t wait to do it all again.I bit my bottom lip while tracing his six-pack with my fingertip the guy's body was a work of art. It was strange because he didn't look all that big i

Chapter Twenty-Two ~ Chase, Answer Me
It had been two weeks since Jesse died, and it still hurt just as much as the day that Chase told me about the accident. I know I didn't know him for long, but we had such a strong connection. I’d even been dreaming of a future with him. Then he died…how could the universe be so cruel? The girls at the Sorority were getting annoyed with my moping, and I even heard one say that I had no right to grieve for a guy that I'd only known for a few days. To be honest, I agreed with her entirely, but I couldn't help how I felt. Payton dragged me out of the house and made sure I went to most of my classes, but no matter how much I tried, I just couldn't focus. My dad didn’t understand my grief either, so I spoke to my mom a lot, and she listened and offered advice. She was just fantastic in every way. Payton mentioned the meeting a few more times, but I no longer cared to know anything. None of it was important to me right now.Instead of facing reali

Chapter Twenty-Three ~ What's A Scion?
Chase was silent the entire drive. I had screamed at him, but it didn’t make him respond. Finally, I’d given up and, slumping my shoulders, stared at the window so I could avoid seeing his face—a face that didn’t even look like his anymore. Only Jesse’s. Annoyance warred with frustration in my head. I couldn't believe Chase had just kidnapped me. And all I could think about was Greyston’s words in the car. Alpha? What did that mean? Maybe it had something to do with Chase being the president. Or a werewolf…My head was all over the place. Had I really just thought they had been talking about a werewolf? So lost in my thoughts, I hadn’t even noticed Chase had parked the car. "Aubrey? Are you going to follow me in, or do I need to carry you again?" His voice was quiet but loud enough to snap me out of my thoughts."I'll walk," I replied with a defeated huff.He climbed out of the car, and I got out, too. Once out in the fresh air, I contemplat

Chapter Twenty-Four ~ You Beat Jesse?
After telling me that my father was an Alpha, I needed a little break. I went to the bathroom and called Payton."Brie, where are you, are you okay?" she asked in a panic."Yeah, I'm fine. I'm with Chase—" "Where are you?” she interjected. “If he's hurt you, I'll kill him!"I sniggered. "I'm fine Pay, honestly. He has been telling me everything.""Oh, and what has he told you exactly? And before you go mad, just know that I wasn't allowed to tell you. Your parents and mine swore me to secrecy.""Why would they do that? Wait...are you a wolf, too?" I asked, the question just forming in my head."Oh crap! He didn't tell you that bit, did he? Of course not, the complete jerk. Look, I really wanted to tell you, but I was under Alpha's orders—""My dad?" I cut in"Oh sure, he told you that part. Geez Chase, help a girl out. Yes, your father is our Alpha. Lots of us in town were told to protect you, and not to let you find out wh

Chapter Twenty-Five ~ We Slept Together
“Aubrey, no, don't ever think that. Jesse died in a terrible car accident. It wasn't your fault," he said in a soft voice while stroking my hair. I sniffled a little and replied, "Chase, we slept together!" Before I had a chance to say anything else, he held onto my shoulders and pushed me away, standing up. He paced the length of the room, his breathing erratic.Eventually, he roared so loud I thought the windows shook, then he punched the wall. I jumped back in my seat; my eyes grew wide when I saw the brick crumbled away from the wall. Blood poured down his hand, so I ran to the kitchen and found a towel. Sprinting back to him, I guided him to the couch. When he’d taken a seat, I knelt on the floor in front of him, wrapping the towel around his hand to apply pressure on the wound. He cupped my cheek with his other hand, and when I glanced up at him, his eyes were black. Surprisingly, they didn't scare me like they had before. He stroked m

Chapter Twenty-Six ~ Could It Be Kyle?
It was time to return to school after the holidays, and to be honest, I was going to miss my family and Chase. Sure, I'd get to see him all the time, but I didn't like being away from him much anymore. I loved spending time with him, but luckily for me, he was still like a stalker, so wherever I turned, there he was. It wasn't overbearing, though. I'd gotten used to it, and now that I knew there were dangers out there, like threats of kidnapping, I kind of liked the idea that he wasn't far away. Of course, I always had Payton with me, and Chase found a couple of other wolves who were taking the same classes as me, so I quickly became friends with my new classmates/bodyguards. I stayed over at the Frat house last night. Chase wanted us to go out, but I had some reading to finish before classes started back up, so I agreed to stay over at his place and order food instead. I'd stayed over a few times, so I’d brought some clothes over. That way I didn't have to keep running

Chapter Twenty-Seven ~ Let's Get Married
Chase sat there staring at me with his mouth wide open. I turned to look at Payton and Connor, and they had the same look."What?" I said in a high-pitched tone."Brie, are you sure? Do you even know what it all entails?" Payton asked me, her eyes wide with shock. "Well, no, not exactly, but I'm sure you can all fill me in. Doesn't he just bite me, then you know, I turn?" I asked with a shrug."Oh, no honey, there is so much more to it than that. Chase, you need to tell her," she said while sitting down in the armchair. Connor dropped on the floor beneath her, stretching his long legs out in front of him. My gaze landed on Chase as I waited for him to explain."Well, first I'd have to talk to my uncle and try to convince him to let me take over early as Alpha. We don't usually take over until were twenty-five...""Yeah, good luck with that," Connor chuckled.Chase growled at him and Payton slapped him on the head."Ow, what was t

Chapter Twenty-Eight ~ Get Out Aubrey
After my accident, everyone tried to convince me that I'd hallucinated seeing Jesse. They insisted that they'd had a traditional werewolf funeral for him, and that me thinking that I'd seen him that day was because of the knock to my head when the car hit me. And even though common sense and logic told me they were all right, in my heart, I still held hope that he was alive. I'd started up classes again and decided against joining the cheerleading team despite the insistence of most of my Sorority sisters. Instead, I focused on track and took up my old ritual of an early morning run. This morning I was up at four forty-five, had a protein shake, and left by five. Chase didn't like me going for a run alone and kept going on about Alphas, Sires and, kings. Blah, blah, blah. He would send different guys out with me each morning to run behind me, or Arabella would come with me, but today I left an hour early so that I could get some peace. I needed to clear my he

Chapter Twenty-Nine ~ We Need To Leave
It had been nearly six months since Chase left. I’d spent weeks trying to call him and sent thousands of texts, but eventually, his phone was cut off completely. I tried asking Arabella about him, but she just said he was off travelling, and she barely heard from him. I didn't want to put her in the middle. so eventually, I quit asking. I focused on my classes, and track, even began training every morning with Arabella. Running against a team of werewolves was not easy, but I was slowly catching up. Being heartbroken helped in a weird way, and I pushed myself as hard as I could. The physical pain during and after running took away the ache in my heart, even if it was only for a short while. I already knew I was delusional before Chase left, but now I was certain. My visions of Jesse, which brought both joy and confusion, disappeared along with Chase. After a while, I began to think of Jesse less and less, and even when he did pop into my mind, I didn't feel g

Chapter Thirty ~ I'll Leave Her
“Fiancé? What the hell is he talking about, Bell?" I screamed over the crowd of cheering people. And when I looked back at Chase, his eyes were searing into me. It didn’t deter me. My gaze burned right into his, confusion warring with sadness contorting the features on my face. His shoulders fell and his head dropped as he stepped forward, moving toward me. The crowd was too thick, though, and besides that, Arabella had already started dragging me away, weaving through the mass of people and moving into the kitchen. She took me out the back door and pushed me towards her car. When we were close, I yanked my arm from her grip while she struggled to find her keys in her purse. "You can't drive, Bell! You've been drinking!""No, no, it's fine. I haven't had that many," she replied with her head still in her purse. A huge smile spread across her face when she pulled her keys out, dangling them in the air in triumph. I shook my head at her. "I'm
