As soon as Xander returned to the castle, he left his horse with a knight that happened to be patrolling the area. The knight was confused as he had not been notified of the King's prior departure from the castle and had no idea when or where the horse came from as well as why the King was dressed as a commoner. He however, simply saluted and obliged to the King's demands and led the horse back to the stable with a dazed expression. Xander then took long strides back to his chambers, not bothering to hide the fact that he had left the castle in secret. He had bigger fish to fry after all. His mind was filled with one thing and one thing alone. Finding Diane and his son.His jaw was clenched and his expression grim. He couldn't let this situation happen again. With thoughts of finding Diane flooding his mind, he changed into his formal wear and headed straight to the barracks."Guys, did any of you do something wrong?"

A New House
Word of the mobilisation of the King's soldiers were whispered around the secluded town of Tefflander. Mikhail furrowed his brows as he cocked his head quizzically. How did they receive the news when the official city was miles behind him?Who could the people the King was looking for possibly look like? For him to mobilise such a large troop just to track them down... Mikhail pondered on the question as his mother tapped onto his shoulder, telling him to pull to a halt."Stop. We're here. I'll talk to the village head.""...? Okay..." Mikhail pulled the reins, bringing Brownie to a halt as he watched his mother jump off the cart. It was now evening, they had only stopped for that short break during breakfast. Whatever his mother was thinking about was unclear to him, except for the fact that she was willing to cast everything in the wind, just to leave Vogrant far behind her.He then turned h

Unwilling To Compromise
A woman ran down the palace hallway as her expression scrunched into a worry filled one. Her long red hair billowing in the wind as she clung tightly onto the cloak that was snugly wrapped around her body.Surprised expressions were displayed on the faces of the people she had passed by. They genuflected in reverence as she passed them without sparing a second glance.Xander stood in his study, holding a book gingerly in his palm. His eyes boring a hole through the middle of the book. He had a stern and firm look on his face, jaws clenched as he emitted an ominous aura.Suddenly, the doors of his study flew open. The sound it made when it hit the walls was loud and garnered his unamused attention."... This had better be good news..." Xander said below his breath, his eyes still focused on the book."Xa...nder... haah... haah... is it true...?" a woman's raspy voice filled the now morbidly silent ro

Worse Than The Reported News (Part I)
A few months had passed since Diane left without any trace. Xander had been in deep distress due to the fact.He watched his quill dance between his fingers as the nib wandered across the paper. The white feather seemed to be lulling him to sleep, yet, his eyes remained open. For the past few months, sleep had been aversive and Xander had forgotten what the calm blanket of oblivion felt like. His mind wandered from time to time, but he could never properly rest. Today was supposed to be no different."Your Highness! I have good news! And well bad news..." Louis' muffled voice rang from behind the heavy wooden door. Xander whipped his head up from the news as the quill slipped from his fingers, ink splattering across the papers. It had been documents pertaining business between the nations, but the sound of "good news", was all that he could care to be bothered with. Especially if there was a small glimmer of h

Worse Than The Reported News (Part II)
Hooves clacked against the earth, resounding across the plain as the steady beat grew louder. Soldiers clad in their gothic armour sat upon their high steeds as they followed after the lead of their general.Xander glanced behind him at the men before urging them to keep up. He had been travelling for a few hours upwards to Tefflander Village where the rebellion was seemingly getting worse. There was little he could do to appease the outcry of rebellion aside from personally showing his face to his people and offering them aid. They had probably felt abandoned and mistreated due to his actions. Lilith had been right all along. Xander clenched his teeth as he brought his gaze forward, cuing his men to follow him as he increased the pace of his black steed. They were close to Ihgor, a rural town under the supervision of Count Douwell, or what used to be of House Douwell, which had been influenced by the Tefflander villagers to join in

Mikhail led Xander towards Tefflander Village, awkwardly walking ahead of him. It was fine to walk, but Xander had initially insisted on Mikhail riding beside him. Mikhail had immediately refused his offer out of both respect and the awkwardness of the situation. He had sense a belligerent mood in the air when Xander had instigated an offer. Mikhail had originally felt conflicted, but stood to his conviction. He merely smiled and walked ahead of the soldiers, pointing towards someplace in the horizon. The village men glared vehemently towards Mikhail who walked freely ahead of the large troop, they grinded their teeth as they cursed beneath their breath. Why was he the only one who wasn't tied up?The journey back to Tefflander Village felt long and cumbersome, yet, it had only been a few hours. The villagers were groaning as they dragged their feet, bearing a grudge towards Mikhail. It must have been something he said, otherwise, w

Worse Than The Reported News (Part IV)
As the original group around Xander left, the duo entered the house together. There didn't seem to be anything suspicious. However, the arrangement of the furnitures felt off-putting. Mikhail glanced around as he suddenly felt a cold breeze graze his cheek. It was close to sundown by now. The thought of keeping the windows open was unfathomable."S-Susie... why is the window open? It gets cold in the evening." Mikhail asked as Susie's eyes widened. She pondered an answer before she smiled, blinking her eyes sweetly as she continued slicing the bread."Ah... it was hot all afternoon. And there was still some heat from the oven. So, I'm letting that heat out." "Is that right?" Xander interjected as he glanced around the room. He walked forwards and found a creaky part on her floor. His lips pulled to a frown as the creak was replaced with a hollow thump. He then bent

"Uhh... when did I fall asleep? ... Huh? Why can't I move my arms...?!""Shhh... that terrified look suits you though. Just as I thought... I really liked you, Mikhail."Mikhail's eyes slowly adjusted to the lighting of the room. Susie was in front of him, a grin so wide on her face, it resembled nothing short of a devil. His eyes dropped down, only for Mikhail to find himself bounded tightly by ropes. He opened his mouth to voice his complaints, but soon found himself gagged."That won't do. If you yell, everything that we've done would go to waste. Our village, gone forevermore. You wouldn't want that now, would you? So be a good boy and keep quiet. Maybe the nobles would buy you at a high price."Mikhail knitted his brows as his screams were muffled by the gag. His face grew red from the anger he felt flowing within him. If she does this to him, what about his mother?!"It's time

"Big brother Mikhail, how is it?" a girl asked as she tugged on the hem of Mikhail's cloak.Mikhail rubbed the beading sweat off his forehead as he turned towards the girl, a smile plastered on his exhausted face. "Just a little while longer. I think I'm close to an exit."The girl squealed with glee as she rushed back towards the other kids, informing them of the good news. The children then gathered around Mikhail. He could faintly see the hopeful smile on their faces, illuminated by a sliver of light."We'll help you. Sorry we made you work so hard for our sakes... we just didn't want to be let down again... hope feels... too fragile down here."Mikhail nodded solemnly as he patted the young boy's back, pulling him into a tight embrace. "It's okay, I'm certain this is a way out."After Mikhail soothed the boy, he instructed the children on what they were to do as he added some of

"It's an emergency! Xan... The King..." Diane exclaimed as she burst through the flap of the encampment. Her face was wracked with anxiety as all eyes turned to face her."The King? What happened? Where is he... No wait, that! On your back! His cape...""Nevermind the cape! There's a fire! A fire mage showed up! Xander is... Xander is in trouble! He's in the forest!"All the soldiers present in the tent then perked up at her words. They seemed doubtful but decided to believe her words after seeing the royal cape wrapped around the woman. There was no way a national treasure could be forcefully removed from such a strapping man. What worried them more was the mention of a mage. A mage here in Enoch? There wasn't anything particularly bad with having mages in Enoch, however, they prefer to live in seclusion and never revealed their identities unless it was a dire situation. Most mages decide to
