Chapter 30
My mind was racing as I left Uncle Jaspar's office. It had been my fault ten men were dead. While I felt shaken to my core, regret was one emotion I was lacking. The men had infiltrated my birthday Gala and threatened the lives of innocent- and not so innocent people. As far as I was concerned they were fair game.Aela was stunned into silence for the next half hour."That's why I was gone, isn't it?" Aela frowned, "I felt so drained after everything happened.""I did too." I nodded, "But what if our energy was drained due to our intentions?""Well..What were you thinking of when it happened?" Aela replied."Just.. protecting Viktor." I frowned, that was one moment I remembered clearly, "He was about to die, and I couldn't let that happen.""I don't see how those intention's weren't pure." Aela shrugged, "You weren't trying to kill them."I searched around the grounds for Shannon, hopi

Chapter 31
After my long conversation with Viktor, the first step of my plan was beginning. Viktor was right. I couldn’t take on everyone at one time, I needed to go one by one.The night provided little in terns of rest. My mind was busy concocting plans for each potential snake in my life. August was a main priority at the moment. The way Elena spoke of her son gave me a sickening feeling. While I didn’t get gut feelings often, my gut was telling me to protect August at all costs. When I wasn’t thinking of plans or August’s safety, my mind was wandering back to the Aslanov family.Their two sons in all of their beauty, playing the game with an anticipating and skillful mindset. The one family that truly seemed to enjoy the game and potential pain they could inflict on others. The eldest son Nikolai Aslanov, held such beauty it was incredible. The false emotion’s he played on his face were incredibly calculated and well formed. In the short c

Chapter 32
I wasn’t even sure where the words had come from, they just emerged from my mouth without warning. Even though I couldn’t figure out their source, I knew they were the truth. Mom’s death was a horrible tragedy, one I’m sure was orchestrated by a Royal or someone of high ranking. Dad had never been able to figure out the true cause of her death, forcing him to call it a simple rogue attack. I knew it was risky playing the same game, but I couldn’t sit idle. Dad was an amazing ruler, that much was clear. Our own Kingdom was flourishing, but others were failing. I wondered how many lives had been lost in other Kingdoms because Dad refused to play the game.I headed to the west wing of the Mansion, trudging up the stairs to the second floor. I nearly knocked on room twenty four when Viktor’s gloved hand stopped me. His hand wrapped around my raised hand, a single finger coming to his mouth in an attempt to tell me ‘quiet’. Only when

Chapter 33
That hour was one of the longest I've experienced in my short life. My brain came up with every possible scenario that left Viktor permanently wiped from my life. It was selfish to ask this of him, but he was my only hope. I couldn't trust anyone else with the task, and I knew Viktor could come and go easily without being spotted. There was no way I'd be able to complete the task myself without getting noticed. Viktor came silently through my bedroom door and I released a sharp breath. Viktor had come back after all. My eyes raked over his towering form, looking for any injuries. Viktor looked as good as ever, with his tousled chocolate hair and piercing eyes. It seemed as though there wasn't a single scratch on his body."You underestimate me?" Viktor was the first to break the comfortable silence. His tone wasn't mocking or condescending, simply curious.I shook my head, "After watching you kill four guys by yourself, I think I'm past underestimating y

Chapter 34
After I gave Uncle Jaspar the necklace, it felt as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. While I believed my intentions to be pure, the thought of losing Aela for even a few days was terrifying. Uncle Jaspar provided me with what help he could and for that I was thankful.  I stayed in my bedroom well into the afternoon. The dinner cart pulled me from my thoughts. "You can just leave it." I nodded at one of the servants with a smile. "Place it outside your room when you are finished, Princess." The older woman smiled back. I ate my dinner in silence, my mind attempting to focus on many things at once. I found I couldn't tap into my mate at will. It was a give and take type of connection. I could only receive the emotions and thoughts

Chapter 35
(Flashback)"I need a favor." I looked at Viktor with pleading eyes, "I can't trust just anyone with this."Viktor paused, his dark eyes searching my own. "What is your favor?" I tried not to smile as his thick accent filled the room."I need a replica of this necklace." I pointed to the one on my neck, "As soon as possible."Viktor paused, curiosity filling his dark eyes. "Why would you need something like that?", he asked."My Uncle wants me to give him this necklace. He says I'm not ready for it." I shrugged, "Nothing is certain, but I'd like to make sure his intentions are..pure."Viktor came forward, lifting his gloved hand to my necklace. I inwardly cringed, hoping it wouldn't hurt him the way it hurt the men who had crept into my room. The necklace was cold against my skin, not a si

Chapter 36
Viktor was gone; he was actually gone. I had just found out the identity of my mate and he slipped through my fingers within seconds. I couldn't process anything other than the horrific longing I felt coming from Viktor, and the insane urge to chase him into the darkness. Shannon stood silent, her eyes glistening with acceptance. I didn't bother asking if she had known all along; it wouldn't surprise me anymore. She probably found out weeks ago. Aela wanted to scream--to curse the two of us for being so stupid, so blind. It's funny how easily you miss things, only to realize the signs were right in front of you the entire time. The strange connection I felt towards Viktor, the constant urge to be near him and touch him, all effects of the mate bond. The leather gloves that seemed to follow him wherever he went. Some small part of me was curious, why wouldn't he want

Chapter 37
As impossible as I knew it was, I wanted an instant solution. I needed Viktor back, needed his name clear. My Dad was right, any solution wouldn't be instant. There were too many people working against us, too many people eager to see us removed from the throne. The name Nikolai Aslanov didn't seem to surprise my Dad. His face fell into a dark grimace, his eyes flaring with anger.

Chapter 38
When Shannon demanded something, she got it.Shannon was clearly born to rule. It was evident in her voice, in the conviction she let shine into her words. Her Mom Sheila, was exactly the same way. It was hard resisting the two of them when they put their foot down. "Bella, I might not be strong but I will pick you up and throw you into this bath." Shannon grimaced, her hands on her hips as she watched me.Shannon had spent the last half an hour running me a bath. She said she put 'the works' in it. I wasn't sure what that meant, but I could only assume."Don't give me that look." Shannon rolled her eyes, "You know I didn't put no weird stuff in that bath.""Uh huh." I nodded, giving the bubbling bath a skeptical look. The smell coming off of the water was heavenly, but I wouldn't admit that to Shannon. I enjoyed giving her a hard time, but she knew I meant well. "I put some damn bath oils in." Shannon rolled her eyes but

Chapter 39
Caroline took my confession as expected, the girl did love gossip after all."What?" Caroline's jaw dropped. I'm guessing she didn't expect my answer. "What makes you say that?""I have my ways." I shrugged, "People talk, and that's the name they've been saying.""That's crazy." Caroline shook her head, "Now that's some gossip people will love--""You can't tell anyone." I shook my head, "I don't need this flying around.""It could endanger Bella's life." Shannon frowned, catching onto what I was doing with ease. "Her Dad's trying to find some evidence against Elena Halifax."Caroline's mouth popped open in a little 'o', but she promised not to tell anyone. She continued pressing me for more gossip while we finished lunch, none of which I gave. Sometimes it was refreshing talking to Caroline. She never really took anything seriously. Sometimes it was annoying, others it was helpful. She could put things into perspective at times, making you
