Chapter 31
Talking to Mia had lifted a weight off of Violet’s shoulders. Her situation still wasn’t great, but at least, her friend was still her friend. Though, she had no idea what she was going to do next. As the sun started to sink past the trees she could see from her window, Violet started to think about dinner. She wasn’t exactly sure how it worked when she was the one sitting at the table instead of setting it. She didn’t have to wonder long when the alpha knocked on her door. “Hello, Violet, I was wondering if you’d join me for dinner out in the garden.”“In the garden?” Violet said, a little surprised.“Yes, I thought you would prefer something more private than joining all the others just yet.”Again, Violet found herself surprised. &ldq

Chapter 32
The alpha cleared his throat and Violet looked up from her mom’s bracelet now on her wrist to him. “As I’ve said before I know this is difficult for you. I hope the bracelet gives you some comfort, but I was also thinking I could have someone go to your home and get some of your things for you. I’m sure having your clothes would make you feel all the more you if I am making myself clear.”Wrinkling her nose, Violet told him, “I don’t want anyone going through my stuff.”“Well..” the alpha said, looking a little surprised.“I want to go and get my things.”“Oh...Violet, I don’t think-”“No, it needs to be me,” she told him, re

Chapter 33
Violet’s room was just like she left it. Unexpected anger surged through her. Everything was normal. Everything shouldn’t be normal. Part of her wanted to destroy the room. Rip the pictures off the walls, tear the blankets on her bed to shreds, break the chairs, and smash the mirror.“Don’t be stupid,” she told herself and walked over to her dresser. Violet opened it and began taking things out of it, or she did until the pictures on top of the dresser caught her attention. They were a couple of her parents, but most of them were of her with her friends. Or what those she thought were friends. Did they even notice she had gone silent all this time? Did they wonder where she was? After all, Lilianne did say she wanted Violet to join them in Europe after her birthday.Unable to resist, Violet took out the phone Jeremy had given her.

Chapter 34
The flight back was just as uneventful as the one there. Back in the alpha’s territory, Nolan helped Violet carry the suitcases to her room, and then they went to meet with the alpha. “Everything went well?” he asked when he saw them. “Yeah, but the weirdness ensues,” Violet told him.“Excuse me?”“Someone cleaned her house,” Nolan replied. “Any signs of a home invasion and a murder have been whipped clean.”“Ah, weirdness,” the alpha said.“Nolan says Jer- I mean Morgan doesn’t do this kind of thing. Why would he do it now? And why go into my mom’s e-mails and stuff. Why would he want no one to think my parents are missing?&

Chapter 35
It was nearing dinner time when Violet finished putting away her clothes and things. With some mental prepping she headed downstairs to join the alpha and his people at the table. When she came into the room, the alpha went over to a chair on his right and pulled it out for her. “Here you are, Violet,” he said. Everyone turned to watch them. It was beyond embarrassing. She would’ve rather had Emily there trying to humiliate her before this.Trying to ignore the way people glanced at her, she took the seat he offered her. “Thank you.” A few of the people sitting there offered her a tight smile when she caught their eye. Shortly after the meal began, an older woman turned to the alpha, resting her chin on her laced fingers. “So is it true? This is Gwen’s daughter?”

Chapter 36
Violet sighed as she woke. On her back she stared at the ceiling, trying to remember what day it was. This place made the days run into one another. She sat up and rubbed her face. Violet wondered what the alpha was doing to find her parents’ killers. A knock on the door broke her from her thoughts. Opening the door, she was surprised to see the alpha standing in her doorway instead of the expected Mrs. Chaplin. It was as if her thoughts had summoned him. Werewolves couldn’t read thoughts, right? “Uh, good morning alpha.”“Good morning, Violet. How are you?”“Great,” she replied, unable to keep the sourness out of her voice. He gave her a strange look as he asked, “everything alright?”Violet returned the look.

Chapter 37
Lunch was delicious and after a short rest, she was ready to tackle the hike back to the alpha’s car. As they walked, Violet couldn’t stop thinking about her situation with the alpha, and her father. The alpha made some small talk, and Violet contributed absent-mindedly. Her logical mind told her it wasn’t a betrayal to her father, allowing the alpha a relationship with her. The alpha made no demands to be recognized as her father. And what if she did recognize the alpha as her father? There were many families that had multiple mothers or fathers. There were godfathers, stepfathers, and all that.Violet tried to think of any reasons to not give the alpha a chance, but besides the feeling of betraying her father, she couldn’t find one.“Everything okay,” the alpha asked as they reached the car.

Chapter 38
Despite Violet’s insistence that she could dress and make it upon herself, Mia refused to leave her room until Violet was ready for her date with Nolan. They went through all of Violet’s clothes and make-up until Mia picked out the things she thought would be perfect for Violet and her date with Nolan. While Violet may have protested a lot, she appreciated Mia’s help. Their bickering made Violet feel normal. She and her friends use to do the same all the time and it seemed like forever since she felt like she had a friend. “What do you think?” Mia asked when she finished with Violet’s hair. “Wow, I look great,” Viole replied as she looked into the mirror. “You are a woman with many talents.”Mia beamed, looking pleased. “I am, aren’t

Chapter 39
The next morning, Mrs. Chaplin left word with Violet that he alpha wanted to see her in his office. With her stomach in knots, Violet entered his office. There was a table set up with breakfast. The alpha smiled when he saw her and asked her to take a seat. The tightness in his smile or the tired look in his eyes wasn’t missed by her as she sat.“What’s wrong?” she asked, picking up her fork and started to eat. The alpha chuckled lowly. “Either you're getting more perceptive or I am getting worse in keeping up my mask.”“Perhaps a little of both,” Violet said then gave him a questioning look.He sighed and took a drink of the orange juice in front of him. “This is not easy for me to admit, Violet. I am the alpha

Chapter 40
The entirety of the backyard was used for the party. There were balloons and streamers placed elegantly through the yard. Tables were set up with mountains of food and there were places to sit and tables for eating everywhere. Instead of a welcoming party, it looked more like a wedding reception to Violet. All and all, she thought it was overkill in the truest sense. However, Violet put on her best politely interested expression and decided to take advantage of this situation to get what information she could. It sent a thrill through her when she noticed that several of the staff had joined. An older werewolf woman who looked like the definition of a ‘Karen’ stopped Violet. “Oh, hello dear, I’m Cathy Mills, and I just want to tell you how lovely it is to have you here with us. All of us were worried when the alpha refused to take a mate and had no children of his own.”
