Chapter 21: Constant Irritance
Swords clashing and men grunting block out the constant irritants of my father's rants. The smell of sweat and blood heavy in the air. Starring at the ground in utter defeat once I've hit the ground with a hard thud once more. My small, pale body covered in dirt and bruises. My legs covered in turf marks. The dirt and dust burning my wounds, the salty sweat of mine doesn't help either. Tears threatening to spill, I lift my arm and wipe off the sweat from my forehead.Being snapped out of my haze when I feel a force of contact hit the back of my head. My head thumps in pain, my pounding in my ears. "Boy, are you listening to me!" My father yelled in rage. He continues screaming, "Look me in the eyes when I'm talking to you!" I lift my head in silence to look at the king standing in front of me. His face is red and drenched. His teeth are crooked and his face grotesque to look at.

Chapter 22: Rabbit Stew
I place my hand on Kathleen's soft cheek, wiping away the tear. "Kath-" I try to say her name again in the hopes to save both our lives but fail, making the problem worse. Feeling as my oxygen is completely cut off. Darkness creeps on my vision, Kath's angelic face being the last thing I see as I return to my memories flashing before me.I open my eyes to the sight of an old woman, a crooked toothed smile spreads across her face when she sees me awaken. "I'll inform master you're awake," she says in a gruff voice. She then scurries off, hunching over. Her form reminds me of a monkey almost. That's rude of me to think, I groan and try to get up and run but to my displeasurement, my frail arms and legs are strapped to a wooden table. The feeling of leather scraping and ripping up my arms encourages me, even more, to stay down.I lay there for some time trying to think of ways to get out. Anxious fantasies that remind me more of

Maids scurry all about, working hard to preparing for the big feast tonight. I sigh, annoyed beyond belief when another one walks right into me. Everyone around stopping at the loud noise, the maid scurries around trying to pick up the candles she dropped. I walk past her with one step, speeding up my pace to Attilia's room.Angrily pushing the door open, a smack heard as the handle hits against the wall with a strong force.Seeing Attilia standing by a table discussing with some of his main men the plan, I walk over to him. "Attilia, is everyone ready?" I ask, my voice echoing and bouncing off the walls. "Yes, everyone is stationed and ready." He says shooing the men out of the room."And the necklaces?" I ask, the wheels turning in my head as I become more focused on the task at hand. He nods, opening a velvet jewel box. In the box are two necklaces. One is a king's crown and the other a queen's crown. I smirk, looking at them an

After using the bathroom, I rub my eyes and see that Kathleen's still asleep. After she fell asleep last night in my lap I had carried her over to my bed.She smiles slightly. Kathleen looks so gentle and calm. Not bothered with the stress of school or her mother back home. Seeing her like this makes me want to protect her with all my life. I hope I never forget this moment. I take a mental image, wanting to stay in this point in time.I sit down on the bed next to her, moving her coffee coloured hair out of the lady's face. Kathleen shifts, her eyes slowly fluttering open. Once they're com

The sun's lights shine brightly. So bright that even with closed eyes it still ignites the dark world. The soft grass tickles my legs but still provides me with a comforting spot to rest. My head rests on the roots of a massive oak tree. I can hear the waves of the beach crash against the ledge I'm laying on.I can also hear the fisherman whistling their morning tunes. The daylight is just high enough for them to start their early morning work. Birds sing their gentle sunup tunes, forest birds. The thick forest road taken to get here must be the reason for them. Then, I hear footsteps. Soft ones, I can tell they're trying not to bother the space of peace I've found here up the mountain. A moment in time that I'll have to safe forever. After forgetting the best year of my life, I've started collecting these moments. The perfect, or almost perfect moments in my mind. It still lightly winter but the weather becomes warmer. "Good morning, my queen," I say to Kathleen but opening my eyes I see there is no Kathleen and I'm just holding a pillow.I furrow my brows, usually, she waits for me to wake before she gets out of bed. I scour the room and see that her cloak and boots are not at their customary corner...Why would she need her coat? I get up from my bed and move over to my closet. A pair of my trousers and one of my shirts are missing.I hear a commotion outside. I get up, not caring for a shirt, only in my britches. Opening the door to one of the servants, "Oh your majesty, I was just about to wake you." She says in a faint voice, her cheeks rosy and eyes big, I give her a disgruntled grunt in return. Just like I've done many times before.
