Chapter 30
I did look okay, though a little flushed. The ballroom was only half full when I arrived. I made my way back to the table and found a drunk James waiting for me. He was saying his goodbyes to the only couple left at our table and who desperately tried to pull themselves away from James’ clutches. It would seem that James was an emotional drunk. I said my goodbyes before they escaped. I sat down next to James. He looked at me and frowned. “Tonight was a bust!” he exclaimed, defeated. “Why is that?” “I didn’t even get so much as a wink, let alone an ass grope,” he harrumphed. “Sweety, he was too busy to do that.” “Is it too much to ask for the sexiest man alive to get out and mingle with people? How else am I ever going to get a chance to grope his ass?” “Really?” I chuckled. “Shush. Where have you been?” he said seriously. “I was kissing the sexiest man alive,” I whispered into his ear. “G

“Sure,” I mumbled as I followed along. He led me to an open jeep. It didn’t look official or fancy, which was good. But it was not what I was expecting. I hoped this man wasn’t out to kidnap me or something. I was so tired that I was even coming up with kidnapping plots. Calm down! “Sorry,” the guy said as he pulled into the seat next to me. “I’m Luca. I didn’t want to make it look like we didn’t know each other at the dock.” “Hi, Luca. I understand.” “I am part of Mr. Rivera’s security team.” I nodded in understanding. “We also went to school together.” “I see.” I blushed. I didn’t know how much he knew about it. But there was nothing on his face to give away his real thoughts. “This shouldn’t take too long,” he announced. I simply nodded, unsure whether I should strike up a conversation with the member of the security team and had known Kai for a long time. As we left the dock, we passed houses I couldn’t even describ

Seeing them down, he then reached under the bench and pulled out two comfortable-looking stools for us to sit on. He returned to the fridge and brought out a bottle of wine and my mouth dried as I watched his hands as they deftly maneuvered the corkscrew and released it. Kai sat down next to me, his knees brushing against mine as he leaned over and poured wine into my glass. It was all so easy and informal. “I thought we should keep it casual. I have better plans for tomorrow, I promise.” He looked so proud of himself that I wondered what he had up his sleeves. I was already impressed but he probably had a gourmet meal or something prepared for tomorrow. The wine was lovely but I couldn’t wait to taste his food. I mixed a little rice into the sauce and bought a spoonful of it to my mouth. It smelled good. But as I placed it on my tongue, I knew there was something terribly wrong. I also saw Kai taste it. “Shit,” he sputtered after a fe

“I really love the sexy underwear. But this…” His hand reached out to caress the back of my leg as he tugged me a little closer to him. “I really like this too.” There was sincerity in his words that made me feel like he was telling me that he liked me, instead. Regular old Lilith, who was standing in front of him in casual workout clothes, sans the makeup. “What’s that?” he asked, gesturing to my hand. “This?” I replied. I held up a string of condoms and his eyes widened. The wicked gleam returned as I dropped it onto the coffee table and sat on the sofa at his waist. “Planning on using all of them tonight?” he teased. I chuckled at his optimism. “NO. I am pretty sure we can put a dent in the number, though.” Kai sat up and pulled me closer so that his arm was around my waist. His other hand played with my loose hair. “I’ve never told you how beautiful you are, have I?” His eyes were dark, studying my face as if to commit it t

I woke up the next morning in a tangle of limbs. I could feel the chill in the air and snuggled under the covers, moving closer to the furnace that was Kai’s body. He stirred awake, sighing in what I hoped was contentment. Last night had been a dream. After having fun on the sofa downstairs, Kai and I came up to his bedroom and fell asleep. We did wake up in the middle of the night to find each other, though. Twice. It was no wonder we had slept in so late. “Good morning, sweetheart,” Kai’s voice was a raspy whisper that I could barely make out. He rubbed his chin across my cheek and I felt his morning stubble scrape against me. It was not an unpleasant feeling. “You are insatiable, did you know that?” “Me?” I asked, incredulously. “I suppose it had nothing to do with you.” ”No. You were the one who kept attacking me. What is a man to do?” Look at him acting all innocent! “You could have fought me off.” “What is the point? It’s easier

As he buried his head in my neck once again, I heard him moan my name into my skin. We stayed tightly around one other as we drifted away, allowing our bodies to recover. “You are incredible, Rose.” I hummed in content, not able to formulate words. The buzzing in my ears muffled pit the sound around me, so I just reveled in the pleasure of having the man around me. As we floated, I thought about my name. I wondered if Kai believed Rosalind was my real name. I wasn’t sure. He hadn’t asked me, so I could imagine, that at this point, he really did think that was my name. But I had told him the first night that it wasn’t my real name. So, having him call me Rose was bothering me a little. Whatever it was we had, it was far beyond our original agreement. He deserved a little more, didn’t he? We got out of the pool and grabbed two large towels. Once he was dry, he laid back on one, propping his head on his elbow and rolling over to his side.

Kai moved around the kitchen and I relaxed on the stool, sipping on some wine and nibbling on the selection of cheese he had placed in front of me. He talked animatedly about his life and upbringing. He told me about Luca, the security guy who was one of his best friends from school. How he grew up like brothers with him even though Luca was not from a wealthy family. Despite being privileged, Kai was not a snooty elitist. “My father always wanted me to join politics like the rest of the family but I was the one who broke away, really,” he said. “My dad can be a very demanding man. Things must be done exactly to his specifications. There is only one person who he would ever let talk sense into him and that is my mother. She rarely berates him, though.” “You know he’s the President, right? Of course, he likes everything done in a certain way,” I said. Kai shook his head. “It’s not that. He just… he was a lot of plans for me. Some that I am starting to

“There are other reasons.” “No, there aren’t,” I replied harshly. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. “You think I would meet a man I didn’t know because I had free time? I am a writer, Kai, I care about how well I write. It’s just that.” “What about your other work?” he asked. “There is no other work. I write full-time. I stay at home, in front of my computer, and drink five to ten cups of tea a day and write all day long.” He frowned. “Do you enjoy writing?” he asked. “Why else would I be a writer? It’s not like it pays a lot or that success is guaranteed. I don’t have a given salary each month. I only write because I love to.” “And what did your boyfriends think about your hiding in your house all day?” I shrugged. “There haven’t been any.” His brow shot up immediately. “That… why not?” “I don’t know. I haven’t met anyone either.” “Would you give up your daily routine, your hobbies, and

He was cutting fruit when I walked in. His hands deftly used the knife. In his sleep pants, the contour is his ass looked nice. And he wore no shirt. He looked up when he noticed my presence and smirked when he saw me. “You’re so fucking sexy, you know that?” When this man cursed, it did all sorts of things to me. “I am not sure someone put it as eloquently as you, though,” I teased in reply as I walked to his side to see what he was up to. He chuckled before reaching around and squeezing my ass. I shrieked at the contact and jumped away. I pulled myself onto the marble counter to watch him prepare our breakfast. It was a bad idea to sit on a marble counter without panties on. My bits were frozen at contact. Kai placed an occasional slice of fruit into my mouth and I baited him with little moans here and there to see how he would react in those sleeping pants. I knew I had accomplished my goal when he moved to stand rig

It was a disaster. “Lilith, this is my mom.” I turned slowly and was met with a casually dressed Emma Rivera, who looked amused. “Mrs. Rivera,” I nodded. I hoped she didn’t know that I had defiled a lot of surfaces in her house. “Mom, this is Lilith Hill… She’s uh…” He searched for words. I wanted to smack him. Did he have to go there? “Kai, I wasn’t born yesterday. You don’t need to tell me anything. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lilith. Will you be staying with us for the rest of the week?” “No? I will be leaving… shortly.” “Oh. I have to go into the town to… pick up a few things,” she lied. “Why don’t I leave you two to… finish up. And I can come back at lunchtime? Is that okay, Kai?” “Yep. Fine.” Clearly, his mother had made him speechless. “Okay,” she said before turning. “Again. Nice to meet you,” She waved over her shoulder. “Kai, breakfast is still burning. Turn the stove off.” “Right! Sorry!” he yelled a
