We were all panting and coach looked too happy to see us with our tongues hanging out. Our final game is in three days and we have been practicing our asses off.‘That was a close one tigers’. Coach said ‘Close one? We can barely feel our lungs’. Pokello flared. ‘If you feel your lungs Poks then you have more issues than I thought’. Most of the girls laughed as Pokello glared at coach’s back.‘We have to win this and definitely not because I made a bet with the other coaches. Practice at all times, I mean it and for those of you who haven’t, you still have enough time to get some, you know. I heard it helps relaxes….’‘Ehm coach, I don’t think that is very appropriate for you to say’. I stepped in before he cost himself his job. ‘Whatever. It’s not like you don’t hear it eve

‘Oh my god!’ Katie screamed from three lockers away where she was waiting for Queenie to get her books. Kello and I ran to them. Queenie looked like she had seen a ghost and when I looked at her closed locker, I wished that was the case. ‘He did this’. Queenie mumbled. ‘Who?’Growing murmurs from down the hall drew our attention and when I saw the crowd in front of the notice board I knew the picture was pasted there too, the picture of Queenie and Mr. Dawson kissing in bed, barely dressed. I heard Queenie running out but the laughter from our fellow students drowned her footsteps as Pokello and Katie went after her.‘Shut the fuck up!’ I jeered and they quietened. ‘Who did this?’ I snarled but they all stared at me. ‘I will find out who did it and I’m gonna kill them with a garden fork. I’m gonna….’

We were down by five points and I made it a point to not glance over at coach if I didn’t want to be murdered by eyes. My desire to win had flown away, leaving me with the digging need to make sense of everything in my life.Queenie was sandwiched between Katie and Daniel. Typing away on her phone, probably battling those who had made it their duty to slut-shame her. Yesterday someone inked ‘whore’ onto her locker and she made the o into a blushing smiley.Zayn had a frown etched onto his face from constantly trying to dodge the huge fan~board Gracie was holding that said; MEGHAN IS QUEEN #4. My eyes met with hers and she screamed what I made out to be: you can do it sis!The bleachers were overcrowded and the cheers deafening, almost drowning out the screams of my teammates. Pokello was playing center while I was the small forward. We needed at least three goals, two if w

Her uncharacteristic silence bugged me. Mom had seen me leave to get her but luckily for us, she wasn’t in the living room when we got back so we hurried to my room and she quickly placed herself by the window.‘Okay seriously. What’s wrong?’ I asked, again.‘Nothing. I’m just party-lagged’.‘Party-lagged? Is... That is not even a thing and if it were I think it’d be characterized by drowsiness, impaired speech and nausea not dead silence’.‘Don’t tell me you miss my voice’.‘No? I just hate to be bored’.‘Well I’m not here to entertain you. You were supposed to tell me something?’Her voice was steely.‘Did Travis do something? Coz the last time you were transferring aggression like this he had dumped you for a cat’. I regretted it the second I said it but her reaction conf

June was telling someone about my weekend tradition. They had been talking for a while but I couldn’t make out a word. As the events of last night swiftly came to me, I squeezed my eyes shut.I was in Zayn’s room and I had told him more than I should have last night. My eyes snapped open and easily found his green ones. I could see the uncertainty in them and I knew my admittance of the attraction I feel towards him last night must be making him feel awkward around me.‘Meghan. Are you okay?’ my eyes moved to June and I smiled. She had an extra glow to her skin.‘I’m fine’. She nodded‘Don’t let Zayn wolf down all the cupcakes, it’s not exactly healthy for breakfast but it’s what I was craving’.Ah, even her vocabulary was knocked up. ‘Don’t worry, I won’t let him bully me’. She smiled and disappeared from the room.&lsquo

‘Why would she do that to me?’ Queenie asked for the umpteenth time. ‘That is not the question you should be asking now. The right question is how do we kill her?’ Pokello stated, staring us all in the face with seriousness that made me question her sanity and mine as her best friend.Katie face-palmed. ‘Is she still drunk?’ she asked ‘Hey. Just curing my hangover with more drinks’. She reached for the juice box beside her that apparently contained alcohol.‘I say we confront her’. Katie suggested. ‘Then beat her up’. I added. ‘To death’. Pokello added and winked.‘I can’t fight her, I’ll ruin my manicure’. Queenie whined, ignoring Kello’s savage suggestion. ‘My brothers can help’. Pokello spoke again. ‘No. I can’t have your brothe

The roads weren't as bumpy as I remembered. The bushes were thicker but a few more buildings had been erected in the neighborhood. Orange leaves decorated the side of the road and the little streaks of sunlight that escaped through the branches gave the place a magical feel. I would appreciate living in a place like this and surprisingly, so do my cousins. Uncle Sam was tearing wood as I parked my car in the driveway and got out. He dropped the axe and walked to me.'Shouldn't Newt be doing the hard work now?' I said as means of greeting.'Trust me he does but not this one. Not since he barely missed his little toe'. I laughed as we fist bumped.'You look extra beefy Uncle Sammy'. I commented.'For real? Well I've been getting some extra care'. He beamed.'From who?''From....' The front door opened and a lady walked out with two glasses of juice loaded on a fancy tray.'Mrs. Tanner?''Agatha, call me Agatha

Everyone hates Monday mornings, I wasn't an exemption but this particular one felt like Saturday movie marathon with the girls.Queenie and I sat rubbing shoulders in homeroom when every phone in the room and probably the entire school pinged. Gasps, chuckles and nonchalant sighs were heard. Shortly after, the morning news was interrupted as the screen changed to the photo that had been sent to everyone.'For those of you who didn't get the message sent a few seconds ago. This chat is between our very own generally loved head cheerleader Tara Johnson and Eric Truman. I hope the pieces fall into place'. Came a mechanical voice from the speaker that no one would guess to be Zayn's.Miss Walker cast a lazy glance at the screen, shook her head and returned to looking miserable.'Three, two, one'. The bell rang immediately after Queenie's countdown and students began filing out. Immediat

My mom was slummed on a chair in the living room facing the ceiling when I got back that evening. Her eyes were shut so I made to quietly retire to my room. ‘Meghan’.There is a way a parent calls one’s name that sends off a clear message of trouble.‘Yes mom’.She rose from her seat and met me by the stairs.‘Mom is everything okay?’ I inquired‘You had no right’. She began                      ‘What?’‘You had no right to keep the truth away from me. Why didn’t you tell the shameless gold digger was back in town?’‘Mom’.‘Let me speak’. She hissed out ‘Those girls are my kids too and they are all Sam has. Imagine what he’d go through if he lost them. Magdalene has to understand that she has no power over any member of this family and we won’t all abandon each other like she did but keeping secrets like that, it makes us look

I didn’t like silence but I liked this one, it was the calm one that flows with the feeling of contentment and the joy of friendship. ‘It hurts’. Queenie whined. She was stretched out on the bed with a pillow probed below her waist and her legs lifted to fall on either sides of her neck.‘The cramps or that freaky yoga shit you have going on?’ Pokello asked, sparing her a glance. ‘The yoga is supposed to help’. She defended. ‘Is it?’ Katie questioned, eyes glued to her phone. ‘Not anymore’. Queenie said and disengaged herself from that painful position.‘Why does it hurt so much? Isn’t this thing supposed to be like a reminder of fertility? Why can’t it just last for an hour and be gone? I mean; I can get pregnant, I get it, bye’. ‘The horrors of being a woman’. Kello said lazily,
