Max sat in his living room that he now had poster boards hanging everywhere. This was the one time that he didn’t have someone there to tell him he was making a mess. He already knew, but this was the best way to show how he got the evidence and how the clues all fit together. He was happily sticking things on the fourth poster board and knew this case was going to have at least fifteen to possibly twenty. It was also there to show how so many players had a hand in her death, but they were not the ones who pulled the trigger. He could see that person clearly. Though it was not going to be easy to show that. That is why he knew he had to do all of this. Like he said to the captain, he needed a week to be able to prove to himself and then to everyone else he had the right person in his sights. At

More and more, the boards were coming to life in front of him. He knew this was the only way he could show the things that he knew. He could tell someone something but this way, he could show. There were a lot of few little nuances that only people who grew up in the area would know. It was also how people thought of each other and the overlap with Samantha.Everyone, it seemed, had some sort of motive to finally be the one to pull the trigger. There were more people involved in the events leading up to the actual murder. At one point, he needed to actually separate each person and look at each of them. He also had to build the timeline, which excluded quite a few people because they all had iron-clad alibies. The fact that a major event that was a charity was going on for the total time that the event happened. The corner was

Max walked into the station house feeling better than he had ever when having to give one of these presentations to people. He had the boards, and he placed them in his office. People were wide-eyed when they saw the stacks of them. He knew he was going to be put through the wringer as well. He only hoped that he could make his case, and the DA who was as hard as nails would bend to see everything. The small details in things were the entire case. That was a huge thing. Though he hoped with the arrest, the last few details would come out like the smoking gun, so to speak. The case was so multifaceted that there were things that could be overlooked. However, some of them he hoped to find still. This wasn’t the end of it.It was just another chapter. He walked into the Captain’s

“You do realize they are going to come for you on defense on this.” The DA stated.“I know,” Max said with a smile. “The best evidence though that proves what I said was actually handwritten from the victim herself.”“What?” The DA asked.“She had a detailed journal,” Max said. “She wrote everything down. When I say everything, I mean everything from dates and times to what she did that day. She then goes on a rant or two about the things that were going on in her life and how they all stemmed from the past. Your best witness to all of this is the victim herself.”“I see.” The DA said. “Now, what is this all about?”“This is to show how many people could have had a hand in it,” Max said. “But it also

“So the sister had a hand in it?” The captain said as he looked at the man in front.“They all did,” Max said as he looked at the other two posters. “She was helping cover things up. That is why she came back to help.”“I see,” DA said. “Now on to the other two.”“Well, this is where it gets dicey,” Max said. “Which one do you want first?”“The father.” The captain said as he looked at Max. “He did it, didn’t he?”“Actually, no,” Max said as he looked at the two men. “He had a super iron-clad alibi. I even looked into the fact he could have hired someone to do it for him, but the honest answer is he had nothing to do with the actual murder.”“Then why is he up there? “The DA asked, slightly confused.“It wasn’t the murde

“When I had the victim DNA tested and her own child, I expected the results to either prove that it was Harry’s son or not. Even I didn’t expect to get what I got. I had to call an expert in well nearly everything medical to explain it to me, and she did.” Max said as the two continued to look at him.“Well, what was it?” The Da asked as he looked at Max, who was taking a drink of water again.“The boy had nearly seventy percent of the same DNA,” Max said.“What?” the two other people asked at the same time.“The boy was a result of an incestuous relationship,” Max said. “The father and the mothers were father and daughter. Phillip is the boy's father and grandfather. The victim was the mother and the sister to her own child. The boy has a few

Max was able to walk out of the station with six other officers. He now had warrants for their arrests and to search the houses. It had only taken an hour from the time that he had made the presentation to the DA and the captain. He had been in his office reflecting on everything as the other man walked in and put the papers down on his desk.“Get me the gun.” He said as he looked at Max, “Then you will have done the best job you ever did with any case.”“I’ll try,” Max said as he looked at the man and then at his watch. This was going to be tricky as they were in two different places. Max wanted to be there for both. He thought of the man and knew he had to be first. “I need a patrol car to drive by this address and see if this car is there.”Soon after the car was confirmed at the building, he smiled. Philip was going

Max saw the people all around them with their phones out. This was not something that has ever happened in this area of the town. They must all think it was part of a television show. “Head’s up, guys. We do this by the book. We have cameras on us.”“Roger that Detective.” The officers said as Max took the lead and walked to the front door. He knocked, and when the housekeeper opened the door.“Get her,” Max said, and then he saw the woman in question standing there in a sleepwear suit, and she had wide eyes. Max monitored for her to come to the door. “You are under arrest for the murder of your daughter Samantha.”“Surely this is a joke.” The woman said as she looked at Max.“No joke. Please put your hands behind your back.” Max said.“You don’t have to cuff me.” The woman said.

Max pulled up in front of the house he visited a few times over the past two months. He got out and was met at the door by Harry. Harry looked at him. “You have news?”“I do,” Max said as he saw the three younger kids there playing at Harry’s feet. Max felt a wave of jealousy for a second. This man had gone through hell as well. He had everything that Max wanted to a point. Not Samantha, for a good reason, but it was the same. The vision was always the same. The kids were what was important. That is what he wanted the most. Kids. A family of his own.Harry led him into the main room, and they sat down. Max watched as the kids all went to play in the area that was for them. “We made an arrest.”“Who?” Harry asked as he looked at Max.“Your mother-in-law and father-in-law as well though his charges are not exactly f

Max drove to the station house, which he knew would also have the cameras and news trucks there. He got out of his car and walked into the back of the building. He didn’t want to be famous because of this. He smiled to himself as he walked by, and people all thought he was gloating to a point though he was lost inside his own head. He was trying to get back to the place he needed to be to address all of this without holding on to anything that was going to be said or done in the next few hours.“We have a match.” The captain said, and Max looked up.“What?” Max asked.“The gun was a match.” The captain said.“Good,” Max replied.“Are you ready?” the man asked.“No.” Max replied with a laugh, “but I will figure something out.“Which are you g
