Big Ben
"Y ou really have got to stop those remark of yours," I sighed and headed back to the room. Ace followed right behind me; he was still laughing cheekily.  "But I love seeing you blush," he reasoned, and I sighed again.  I was about to throw myself in bed, again, when he grabbed me by my waist and placed his forehead against mine.  "I know we didn't come here to have fun, but I really hope we would, I hope this trip would make us closer than before," he gave me a peck on the lip. A simple gesture that made my heart skip a beat. He still tasted like the garlic bread he ate during our flight, it made me laugh to myself. He gave me a questioning look, but I shook my head to shrug it off. We had fallen asleep again, clinging tightly to each other.  By the time I woke up, he was not by my side anymore, he had left the bed. I checked my watch, it was already 8 am. An hour left and we would finally make our way to the N

Ace’s Past
We reached back the hotel on a happy note.  We headed straight to Waeska, the bar of the hotel, to have dinner and get a few drinks.  When we entered the bar, it was warm so both of us removed our coat and hung it on the coat stand. I had almost forgotten that I was wearing a skin-tight dress beneath.  "You really are breath-taking," Ace whispered near me before taking my hand towards a table for two. I asked Ace to get me a non-alcoholic drink only to find out there was none. I ordered Calamansi, a cocktail of Grey Goose vodka, Muyu Chinotto, calamansi, vanilla butter, passionfruit, and beetroot. It did not look as bad as the rest of the cocktail on the menu.  Ace ordered the Devil's Claw, a cocktail of Bombay Sapphire gin, Perrier-Jouët Champagne, Ginjo sake, Pandan and devil's claw tincture. The cocktails here honor the ethnobotany concept and the drinks all had medical properties.

A Threat
Pain greeted me the next day. could barely sit that morning. I felt a seething pain on my lower body, but I tried my best to walk towards the bathroom without waking Ace up. I took a warm bath in the tub to lessen my agony.  A few moments later Ace entered the bathroom, he was wearing his boxers. He looked drowsy and he still had bed hair making him look innocent as if last night had not happened.  "Are you alright?" he asked me after rubbing his eyes and I gave him a short nod. He frowned at me, "I doubt it."  "I got Tylenol if you really can't handle it, but the pain is normal especially if..." and he trailed off.  We both knew he was going to say 'the first time around' but even he felt awkward saying it out loud. It really was my first time, I have gone on a few dates before, but I never really had a long-term relationship at all. He was my first, but I was betting I was not his.  "Is it yours?" I aske

A Prideless Action
“Again?" I still could not believe the words that had just left Ace's mouth.  He continued to speak but the rest of the things he was saying did not register in my mind. I could see his mouth move but I could not hear anything. "Can we please not joke about things like this?" I started to shake my head, giving him a disappointed look.  I was expecting him to start smiling and laughing like how he usually does when he tries to pull a trick on me, but he did not. Instead, he continued to look at me with both pain and concern.  Before coming here, I made a mental pact with myself that I was not going to cry. If only I knew he was going to break up with me, I would not have made that promise.  I still tried to contain my tear, but it gave away after a few seconds. Tears started to stream down my cheeks, and I began to sob. I knew I looked like a mess. I cried even harder when Ace wrapped his arms around me.

Meeting Vandia
Imet Cana when I was in my third year.  The executive committee was called to the conference room for the first-ever mixed meeting this year. I came together with the rest of Beta's executive committee and sat next to Ceasar.  I was glad that he was a part of the committee this year because last year I was always alone. I have known Ceasar ever since high school because we went to the same school. He was eyeing all the girls entering the conference room, looking for another victim when he called out to me.  I was expecting him to point out another chick that I was not interested in but to my surprise, this one caught my eyes.  A girl from the house I hated the most entered the conference room. She looked timid and shy but at the same time, I could see how brave she was deep inside. Her caramel-colored eyes and long luscious brown hair were the first things that I noticed. She was slender and tall; I could see her body wa

Dr. Sony
“Miss Vandia is here." Elysa, my assistant, had just announced my arrival to the team. Everyone stood up when I entered the meeting room, I gestured for them to take a seat and they did.  I had been in Italy for almost a month now, the foundation of our new Hospital here had officially begun, and I was the head engineer. Staying in Italy was very refreshing compared to the busy streets in New York. I knew I was capable of handling this hospital construction even if I was in New York, but I preferred staying here. I also had the habit of personally overlooking the process of building the foundations of all my projects.  I sat down at the end of the long table and flipped through the file that was given to me. I was surprised when Elysa announced another person arriving.  "Doctor Juarez is here."  My heart sank.  Juarez, is it Ace Juarez?  I have not seen that asshole for almost six yea

Abigail’s Party
“M ake sure to always wear that ring." It was the following day after my fiancée stood me up. I was at my mother's office when she had suddenly given me a box with a ring inside. She told me to always wear it because there are cameras everywhere and that there would always be people trying to find a flaw in my marriage. My family does not want to tarnish our name by letting the people know that I was forced into the marriage. They had to make it look like Dr. Sony and I was really in love with each other. "Dr. Sony already have the matching ring, I made sure to tell him to wear it as well," my mom smiled, and I simply sighed. I did not stay long in the office with her, I had to visit Palm Beach since I was planning on accepting the deal there. The project was only a beach house so despite the hospital I was managing in Italy and the corporate building in New York, I knew I would still be able to squeeze it in my schedule. I invited

Three Shots
“You're engaged to Jack Aceson Juarez, aren't you? Dr. Sony for short?" Ace smiled and raised his right hand up to show me his ring finger. I had not noticed it just now, but the design was exactly like mine, the only difference was mine had a diamond embedded on it.  "Stop kidding," I laughed nervously.  "Do I look like I joke?" he smirked.  "You used to joke with me all the time," I rolled my eyes.  I paused when I realized I had just bought up a topic connected to our past relationship.  I had been stepping on landmines during the whole conversation and this was probably the biggest one yet. "That was in the past Vandia. Weren't you the one who told me to just forget it and move on?" he raised an eyebrow at me, and I quickly recalled all those times I had ignored him again. I was about to turn and leave when Ace spoke again, the glint in his eyes shined brighter than before. "So, you we

A Night With Tine
“A re you still not over me, Ace?" The question at the top of my head was blurted out. I immediately regretted it, but I did not show it in my expression. There is a possibility that I was right anyway or so I thought. "Don't think too highly of yourself, Vandia," Ace said my exact thoughts.  "Do you think I'm marrying you 'cause I still love you?" he raised an eyebrow. I could tell he was getting amused by me again. I always felt like a clown when I was around him, a form of entertainment.  'Yes?' I answered his question in my head, but I did not have the guts to say it aloud.  My old self would have punched me in the stomach for everything I have done in the past few days. It was not like I had forgotten Ace giving up on our relationship when I needed him the most but at the same time, the anger I had back then had already faded. Right now, he was the guy who taught me how to love.  He wa

E dward's case had been approved.  The trial was going to be held next week, Monday. I had just called Ace so we could set up a time and talk about how we were going to bring Edward here to New York from London. He said he was going to be free during lunch, so I made sure I was free as well.  We agreed to meet at the Starbucks near the Vandia Main Hospital so that it would be easy for him to get back to work if there was an emergency.  When I got there, I found him sitting at a table for two besides the window. He was in his scrubs without his lab coat and yet he looked stunningly handsome. I waved away the thought thinking he only looked good due to the lighting coming from outside the window. His jet-black hair was gelled back, a few strands falling on his forehead. He wore a Rolex watch and his ring, our engagement ring, was visible too. I could have mistaken him for a nurse if I had not known him.  He was on
