Chapter 20: Inner Battle

P.o.V ColmColm hoped the week of training in wolf form would have been a release, a chance for him and Patrick to make amends and strengthen their bond. But no. The entire week was Patrick ignoring training and then shutting him up in the back of their mind as soon as he regained control. Colm begged, bargained, and threatened for the chance to go to the extra practices with the elders, but Patrick would not allow it.Colm's mind was settled on simply failing whatever tests they faced since he could not be treated any worse. Patrick had found a way to mute him when he tried to talk about anything Patrick didn't like. Spending hours and hours locked inside their body, unable to communicate or act. Being let out only for mandatory time-frames and immediately shut back in when they were over. Colm wanted to run in the woods and feel the uneven earth unde

Chapter 21: The Gauntlet

P.o.V Captain Marta/AerieCaptain Marta stretched leisurely as she prepared for the test. She and Leftenant Adrian were to be the final part of the challengers the young wolves had to get by to complete the first test successfully.Commander Alexi had been rather brilliant in his planning. Each of the young wolves had to run through a three stage gauntlet. Each section was a hundred yards and had to be crossed in five minutes. The first stage was a mock town with a car and trash cans and other typical street things scattered through the narrow connecting alleys that made it a bit of a maze. There they would meet a first year recruit also in wolf form whose job it was to keep them from leaving. The second section was a muddy mess with a few fake bushes and some logs and things. This was manned by a full warrior in human form to impede their progress. Th

Chapter 22: After the Show

P.o.V Moira/Trajan                          "Behold the mighty Alpha!" "Shut it, you."                          "Cower before his might as he charges valiantly into battle!" "I said, 'Shut it!'"                          "Oh quit pouting. It was funny, but effective. Captain Marta literally didn't know what hit her. And now every bowling pin within a hundred miles will know to fear us." M

Chapter 23: Patrick's Fury

**Trigger Warning: This scene contains elements of verbal, mental, and physical abuse. Please refrain from reading much beyond the 7th paragraph if this can cause you any issues.**   Patrick/Colm As he limped into the waiting area after the last section of the gauntlet, Colm felt exhausted but still elated. He’d made it through the first and second sections in time, though he felt like he hurt his leg when he slipped slightly in one of the mud holes. Captain Marta managed to keep him from passing through her section, but overall he was 2 for 3. Looking at the other wolves in the area, several looked very upset. Even Trajan seemed to be moping in a corner. Maybe Colm had done as well as him. With these happy thoughts and Patrick seeming to be resting quietly, Colm settled in to wait

Chapter 24: Promotion

P.o.V. Moira/TrajanThe practices and extra training times grew more and more difficult. Some of the trainees began to be directed at more focused training during their morning practice and Commander Alexi was inviting Captains in throughout the weeks. The elders also began training in groups so that one would generally work with the group as a whole, but a couple could take aside wolves that seemed to be gravitating towards particular skill sets for more focused work. The first from the gang to be singled out was Chris. Captain Daryl came in at the forth practice and pulled out Chris, Sarah, and one other boy Moira only knew from school. After practice that day, the three of them were bombarded with questions that they refused to answer because Captain Daryl swore them to secrecy. Bo and Rich weren’t far behind, Captain Marta snatched them

Chapter 25: Lesson from the Alpha

Patrick Patrick was almost excited for the lesson with his father. The only part of them he disliked was the presence of his sister. She was always waiting with their father before Patrick got there and staying afterwards to “help clear up.” Her sucking up wouldn’t matter though, mother had made father promise that there would be no difference in their treatment. Even if she spent all of her spare time trying to gain father’s favor, it wouldn’t have an impact. She was almost always quiet in the lessons and never tried to answer any of the questions their father posed. She would even doze off with her eyes glazed over when they were supposed to be reviewing material.  “Maybe her presence was a good thing after all,” Patrick thought to himself as he entered the room they were using for their studies to see Moira and their father setting out maps a

Chapter 26: Schedule Woes

Moira/TrajanReturning to the pack house after practice one evening at the end of summer, Moira felt lighthearted. They were planning on meeting up with their friends that evening for a movie marathon. Jessica and Annie were even going to join them. It was going to be a blast to just relax with her friends. As much as they all loved warrior training, they didn’t get much time to chat and just hang out.As Moira strolled in the front door and started up the stairs to get cleaned up and ready, Molly, the housekeeper for the public areas of the packhouse, called out to her. Moira swung back off the steps and into the kitchen. She was hoping they were trying a new recipe or something. It really didn’t seem to matter what the kitchen staff made, it was always delicious, so Moira and Trajan were willing to try anything set before them. Trajan was

Chapter 27: Welcome Freshmen

NarratorThe first day of school seemed to come in the blink of an eye. Both the Leary children got parental approval for their classes without much trouble. Patrick was going to take a business and public speaking focused set of courses while Moira’s cultural studies route received an abrupt snort from their mother but full and cheerful approval from their father who let them know how much he wished he’d learned to speak other languages instead of having to rely on interpreters. The highschool was on the edge of the territories near the base of the mountain. It held students from multiple werewolf clans, the human population, a couple of covens, a vampire clan from nearby, and various other species who called the area home. To ensure that everyone got the most pertinent education possible, there was a core of classes including one specific

Chapter 28: Miss En

P.o.V. Moira/TrajanMoira and Trajan were excited when they and their new friends walked into the lunch room and saw Chris and Jessica. Bo and Stan joined them a few minutes later and the small pack grew. Soon the large table they were seated at as well as the one next to it were full of werewolves from both the High Valley and Grey Peak packs. Introductions flew around fast, but it was not long before the bell rang for afternoon classes. Moira looked nervously at the group from Grey Peak but was relieved when Bo, Chris, and Stan all brought out their schedules. Aside from a couple of the more basic classes, they were all going to be together. Jessica was even in the math class with Moira and Chris.Trajan was almost making them bound down the hallway towards their Introduction to Local Cultures. Moira finally broke into a run at the sight of the rest

Chapter 29: A Few More Weeks

Diary Entry of Patrick Leary (14)The first few days of school were quite successful. I was able to almost completely avoid my sibling and her sycophantic followers. I only had a few basic classes that overlapped with them and was lucky enough that only Seamus crossed my path and he seemed content to ignore each other after a brief greeting. I have learned not to trust him and Stan since they sided with Moira. It is annoying having to leave school early for warrior training. Luckily there are only 7 weeks left and we will be considered graduated from the program. The day can't come fast enough.Moira came to talk to me one evening this week. I haven’t yet figured out what she was trying to do though. She was asking me about being lonely at school and rambling about the “feeling of packless-ness.” It could be she was trying to taunt me
