Thunder rattled the windows of the dining hall. Bad weather was the norm in Brookburgh it wasn't anything to get too excited about or something that could ruin plans.I sat at our normal table with Alex and Gina as I nursed a bowl of corn flakes. "So my mother called me last night and it was a whole argument about how I needed to be there to support my sister in her future endeavors. They've all lost it I tell you." Gina slammed her issue of glamour magazine on the table.Alex looked at Gina as if she was listening intently to her family problems but I knew Alex's mind was on a different Astro plane, she was thinking about tonight."May," I heard Garret's voice and I turned to see him standing at our table. His nose had a plaster over it and his cheeks were red and his eyes watery. "Can we talk?" His voice sounded nasally making me feel bad for Levi punching him.Gina and Alex both looked at me awaiting my

And as I reached to touch the monsters' stretched-out hand, he suddenly recoiled and picked his head up. "Are you sure this is the right house?" The sound of people talking seemed to scare the monsters and they disappeared in a flash.I heard footsteps come through our front door. There were three men dressed in black and one woman with silver hair. I was scared that they were monsters in disguise as well. The woman's black trench coat swept the floor with each step she took. "Little girl," she said, bending her knees until she was eye level with me, "what is your name?"I swallowed hard. "May." My voice was meek and she stood up straight."Are these people your family, May?" She questioned, getting back down to eye level with me.The silver woman was scary and I was afraid. My body shook as I nodded to answer her question. "Yes, that's my mom, dad, and brother," I stuttered.

I never thought I'd be in a situation where I needed to talk to Garret again. I knew I couldn't hide from him forever and that I would run into him during our classes together. But all the ill feelings I once harbored were gone. It could have been seeing his unconscious body lying in a hospital bed, the giant plaster around his head, his bandaged neck, and wrists or it could have been something else other than pity. That I was simply over it or I didn't like him as much as I wanted myself to.Levi had left to go scour the forests with Joshua to find Ophelia, leaving Alex as my bodyguard and Hannah as Gina's guard again. Hannah didn't seem to mind it even though Alex said she would take over from where Josh left off."I can't believe I feel sorry for this wanker," Alex grumbled, begrudgingly.I shook my head. A small smile formed on my face as I thought of what Gina would say seeing him lik

Physics can be defined as the science of matter, motion, and energy. Its laws are typically expressed with economy and precision in the language of mathematics– my brain felt like it was melting.  Sitting and staring at a textbook did not ensure the mind registering and understanding what it came across. Learning and understanding went together like bread and butter and I was missing my butter.  Basic science and math were beyond my comprehending, this much was clear when I reached for my calculator to ensure five plus seven was indeed twelve. I had no passion to learn or try to even understand.  I was a sponge when it came to knowledge– a good thing until a sponge absorbs too much water and then starts to drip.  I forced myself because I couldn't let Levi charm the professors into giving me more leeway with my courses. It was unethical and unfair for the rest of the students. Sucking it up and being an adult about it was h

Daphne showed me to a room and offered me a warm bath and hot meal. Both of which I refused. I wasn't looking for a bed and breakfast and I wasn't letting my guard down. Finally after a few minutes of being told to wait in a room– for my own good– Daphne emerged holding a dress. This was no random dress. The way the light danced off the silk, giving it a shimmery look was too familiar, and instantly I knew where Ophelia found the dress and why she picked it. It was the dress Levi picked out for me at the boutique. The one we bickered about. He insisted I get it and I refused because I had no where to wear it to. This was proof she had been watching us. Every time we thought she was silent, it didn't mean she wasn't there, quietly observing and waiting for the right moment. It was bone-chilling how calculated Ophelia was. What chance could we stand against someone that had us figured out and anticipated our
