Chapter Seventy
"Sure, I respect and trust you," I answered with a chuckle. "I think it's great that you're willing to discuss it and be willing to understand with us.""I've had this discussion with fresh acquaintances hundreds of times previously. I'm pleased you're okay with it. Even though you are basically random people to me, it makes a huge difference to me. An aspect of me even loves discussing such topics. It's one of the primary reasons I would like to become a mental health professional: to lend a hand to fellow troubled children come to find a way to deal with who and what they are, even when society expects them it's unrealistic and extremely difficult.""That's very refreshing," Peter said. "I'm sure you'll be outstanding at it."Kelly smirked. "I suspect I'll ever have the opportunity to serve people again. It's difficult to assist individuals who are no longer alive."I nearly opened my lips, but Peter's glance made me close them. I'm not certain what damage it would do to inform Kel

"You'd be correct," Justine murmured as she stood at the threshold. He brought Lesley with him. His facial wrinkles were murkier than normal, leaving him to seem much older. "Lesley is looking for anybody who is prepared to assist him in forming a search and rescue team and finding John. He may be a jerk, but it's not fair to let him perish from visibility out there, particularly when there are plenty of qualified individuals in here to assist in his search."Peter sighed. "Are you sure you're willing to do that? Are you for real? Did you forget he's a freaking pussy? That dude's no doubt a sociopath. He's relieved that the world has come to an end. Didn't you remember him saying that? We'd be greater off without him.""But we won't be here indefinitely," Justine calmly said. "And Lesley and Kelly won't be capable to operate this property on their own for much longer. John doesn't really do anything around here, but it's one less thing for them to worry about. The weather isn't too a

The door swung open as Peter yanked on the doorknob. The door screamed as he grumbled from the exertion. He took a step back and flashed his spotlight into the entryway, searching for signs of life. Because nothing ever changed, he returned my gaze. "Hurry up. Let's come inside.""Should we scream for that brute's name?" I inquired.I'm not certain I intended to go inside this underground. It seemed to be a bit spooky, and there's no knowing what was under there. Perhaps the proprietor was heavily guarded or maybe rigged with explosives the whole establishment. We may blast our heads off or be skewered by anything!"We might, but I'd want to have a look around. His tracks went up to the entrance, indicating that he is within someplace. But there really is no knowing what we'll discover once we get down here. Except if John got them back up while attempting to hide out elsewhere, a profound vault like this is constrained to have stockpiles of some kind.""I'm curious whatever he does o

I raised my handgun. There's no time to start making a leisurely, methodical scan of the chamber like in the cellar. So, Peter wrenched the door wide open and walked inside, his handgun up, ready to take out any remaining rottens. I'm close behind him, moving up on his right so we could keep an eye on each other's backs. The entertainment room resembled a warped version of the chamber where the girls were being imprisoned. Shackles dangling from the ceiling and were chained to the partition to prevent his little entertainment from escaping and eating him. There were now two unsavory visitors in his lounge room. One was shackled to the furthest facade, while the other was fastened to a lengthy podium, like in Dr. Melendez's tests. I trembled simply gazing at them, thinking what atrocities John had perpetrated while imprisoned here."There it is, dangling on a handle."Following his eyes, I saw a house key twisted around a handle on the distant partition."We'll have to get that rotten

Chapter Seventy Four
"Evil is what makes somebody humanity. Living beings have as many negative traits as positive ones, and wickedness is merely one of them. Wrath, resentment, envy, and lust for power of these emotions are part of what makes us humans. Just because someone lacks any redeemable characteristics does not imply, that he is not human. You can't underestimate it," she said, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry for not believing you."Her tone was so faint that I couldn't hear her, but I felt the pressure of her remarks, which seemed so much like a farewell."I should really have believed you as much as you believed me. I'm not going to allow him to use me to throw any of you in jeopardy...""Mikaella-" I began. She lunged forward and dug her fangs into John's fingers around her neck, sucking blood in one swift animal-like motion. The pistol bursts off with a loud boom because John twitched. Mikaella's head was easily pierced by the bullet, which exploded out the other side was a powerful

Chapter Seventy Five
Have you ever felt so oppressed and melancholy to the point that you wanted to grip onto anything solely to get away from the murky, unnerving, and distressing feelings? I've gone through a lot in life, with several dilemmas and problems, but I don't suppose I'd ever grown accustomed to it. It was excruciatingly torturous. The agony and suffocation were so intense that I felt as if I were being trapped deep beneath with no possibility of breathing air and much fewer possibilities of survival. My knuckles tightened around the cup in my palms, and I turned away from Justine and Peter, hoping they wouldn't see the expression of guilt on my face. I'd let recollections of my comrade diminish because remembering those I'd lost was too hard. I imagined how unhappy Gigi would be if she felt I'd forgotten about her."So, what else are we up to?" Peter inquired, interrupting the awkward pause. "I understand that now is undoubtedly not the greatest moment to discuss it, but we do need to formulat

Lesley gave a nod. "I'll put together a list and add to it as we proceed. However, that is an excellent concept. There is a Walmart in a neighboring town, as well as a few fairly small thrift stores. We'll get some nice clothing and everything else we require.""How many individuals do you believe will survive the transformation back to life form?" Bella inquired. "There will be a bunch of dead corpses to reckon with if everyone with serious life-threatening afflictions just returns around and ends up dying again. Do you believe there will be more survivors or mass graves?""Dead corpses," Peter said. "Almost all of these men have been decaying for far too long, and there won't be too many left who are competent enough to turn around and go back. However, we will be able to salvage any of the newer ones or those with just a puncture or two. That should suffice. Even if just 10% of the inhabitants returned, that's a significant number of individuals to reconstruct civilization, and tha

Justine and Peter both shut off their engines, and everything was quiet. We waited a moment to see if something came racing at us from the neighborhood, but Justine gets out of the vehicle and we all decided to follow."Be cautious. There might be rottens in the surroundings yet. It may just take them a moment to get here. If they're around, I'm sure they've heard these motors, so no one goes anyplace alone.""We know how this goes," Peter remarked, his eyes rolling. "Who wants to look around the house?""I'll come," Peter said. "Why don't you come with me, Clementia?"I removed my firearm from its scabbard on my thigh, and I couldn't help but feel like a gangsta as I did so. Even though I'm little more than a genuine action flick, it's still wonderful to believe that I resembled the badass protagonists I saw in movies as a kid. Following Peter, I deactivated the safety and pointed the tip down.I carried a flashlight in one palm and my pistol in the other, and while inside the home, w

Justine was upturned and still fastened into his seat. He groaned and started to rouse, his hands wandering around his sides, looking for the harness buckle. The woman was sprawled against the roof's curvature, asleep underneath him. Her eyes flickering but staying closed, she groaned gently. Peter was sleeping near me in the rear, sprawled over the roof like me. I crept forward, dragging the lady out of Justine's path so he could securely descend to the roof once he was free of his seat. He unbuckled his seatbelt and landed on his back with a cry of agony and profanity. "Is everyone alive?" he said, bending down his neck to peek into the backseat. "I'm alright," I answered gently, my gaze shifting to Peter. "I believe he seems to be ok as well." Peter's eyes sprung wide as I responded, and he sat straight upright, shocking me. Footsteps ran over, and I heard Ricky's anxious voice before I could even inquire whether he was alright. “Clementia? Are you all right? What occurred?" he

“Thank you,” I said softly. “He was a good man. I don’t know what we’re gonna do without him.” The man turned his attention back to the road, and I looked at Peter, handing him the box with the cure. “I don’t think Justine is in a place to be in charge of this at the moment. I think, for the time being, you’re gonna have to take over control of the group. He won’t be up for it any time soon.” Clyde was watching our exchange with curiosity, his gaze shifting to the container now in Ricky's lap. "Whatever is in that container must be significant," he remarked softly. "You continued to refuse to get out of that vehicle until you obtained it, even if it posed your lives in danger. Why? What could have been so vital that it was worth two of your friends' lives? " Clyde met my gaze when I looked at him. "Don't assume I didn't notice that bite when you walked him in." “It’s the answer to all of our problems,” Peter replied, his fingers tracing the cool metal of the box. “It’s a cure, a way
