Chapter 21
After watching Azaire and Aiden hunched over the engine of a very sexy muscle car for more than an hour, Alexander and I went inside. I really liked the car, and I can’t wait to hear what it sounds like, revving the engine and pressing the pedal to the metal.. Alexander thought I was silly, but he grinned at me, as if he somehow knew I thought of Azaire as more attractive too, because he had a hot car. We’re sitting on their couch, watching music videos on the TV, since I need to be educated in popular culture, and everything new from the last five years. I agree, but it’s a bit much. I sigh suddenly, and turn towards Alexander, who eyes me with one of his black eyebrows arched. He has taken a liking to calling me “Yohan”, probably because Azaire already started calling me “Yohanna”. I don’t get why they need to give me a nickname at all, but I guess Alexander thinks my name is way too long for

Chapter 22
“No, I can’t,” he says, calmer now. He runs both his hands through his messy, dark hair, and sucks in both his lips into his mouth, before looking at me again. “I wish I could. I hate seeing you like this, it breaks my heart. I hate my mother for making me train you.” I gape at him, hurt flashing over me like a tsunami with no receding tide to warn me. Why am I so hurt by this? “Would you rather have Alessandro train me?” “Fuck no,” he growls. “He’d destroy you. He already hates you. Fuck. I’d hate my mother if she made anyone else do this, too.” He sits down on a log, and puts his head in his hands, elbows crooked up on his knees. He looks pissed off, yet so vulnerable. “Fine. Let’s get it over with. You’re not too far away from shifting completely, but when you’ve done that, we

Chapter 23
“Ow! It stings,” Azaire complains with a whispering voice, as I dab his face with a cotton pad soaked in some sort of alcohol-smelling stuff he said his dad gets from the witches, to help wounds heal faster. “Shut up,” I whisper back, “your family is asleep, and I’m willingly helping you do this even though you are perfectly capable of doing so yourself.” He narrows his eyes at me ever so slightly, before a smirk appears on his lips. “You were badass out there,” he says and leans in to kiss my forehead. I scrunch my nose up and look at the now-red cotton pad in my hand, instead of him. I’m not so sure that it was a good idea to run around out there with him. The way we connected out there in the forest, both being wolves and all, was extraordinary. I could feel his heartbeat, I could smell what he was smelling, so it was easy for me to find

Chapter 24
“I… I don’t know what to say. I’m sorry you grew up with those people,” he says, and I can hear a darkness in his voice that I haven’t heard from him before. I heard it in Alessandro’s voice when he yelled at me. “I’m sorry I couldn’t find you earlier, and I wish there was something I could do to make your past easier.” “There is,” I say, my voice suddenly a bit hoarse. “Anything,” he says, standing up from his seat. His hands rests on either side of me on the counter, and he presses himself to stand between my legs. I have no choice but to spread them for him, and I swallow a little as I do. I didn’t see myself doing this anytime soon, but I’m glad we have our clothes on.. Even though, he’s already half naked with his bruised and scraped chest staring at me. Or, I’m staring at it. His hand travel up to lift

Chapter 25
Nothing here either. The female voice enters my head again, waking me up from my peaceful slumber. I honestly haven’t slept this good in years, and I’m really sad that my craziness is waking me up already. Have you heard it yet? I swear I’m not crazy, there was another voice. I groan and turn around in the warm, cozy bed, only to be hit in the face by Azaire’s hot, peaceful breath. I had forgotten that I agreed to sleep with him. I’m in his bed. In his room. My eyes suddenly shoot open, and I swallow, before taking in his beautiful looks. He looks so different when he’s sleeping. His arms are still around me, holding me tight against his body, and I feel safe. A lot safer that I have with him before, and I wonder if that’s because I believe we’re mates, now. I let my hand move up, and stroke his cheek gently. His beard feels both rough and soft under my skin, and I smile a

Chapter 26
When I get down into the dining room, the whole family is already there, including Azaire who has saved me a seat next to him. I feel a little awkward as I sit down, thinking about our night and the odds of only one of the others hearing us.. Azaire doesn’t seem to mind, though, as he kisses my cheek, and his damp hair gently brushes my ear as he does. He reaches for the basket of bread and holds it up for me, wordlessly, and I take a slice and send him a smile. The room is nowhere near quiet, although my hearing is already zeroed in on Azaire. Kai is banging a spoon on the table while singing along to some song I don’t know, but it sounds like it could be from the TV, some children’s show, I think, and Kaira is humming away with him, while their mother is trying to get Kai to stop with the spoon. Soraya is in deep conversation with her daughter about the baby that’s due soon, I think, and I heard something about a placenta, so I zoned it out. Juan and Alessa

Chapter 27
We come to a stop outside a shady-looking motel, that Aiden and Alexander had apparently found online. It’s really close to the main road, so there wasn’t a big detour going in here, but the whole place gives me the chills. I wait outside by the cars with Alexander as Azaire and Aiden goes inside to see if they have any free rooms for the night. They probably do, since the parking lot is almost empty, and most of the rooms don’t have any lights on. Alexander walks over to me, and he nudges my shoulder when he’s close enough, before leaning on the hood of Azaire’s car. “You’ve been quieter than usual. Plus, you’re not even looking at Azaire. Did he do something?” I scrunch my nose up, involuntary, and I don’t even know I’ve done it before it’s too late. I see Alexander eyeing me with a certain amount of surprise in his eyes, but then he looks like he&

Chapter 28
“Yeah, you are,” he whispers back, and moves just a little, so that he can kiss the tip of my nose. He’s being all kinds of sweet, and his mood hasn’t changed since this morning, really, when he got mad at Alessandro, but I’ve learned so far that his mood is usually pretty okay when he’s with me. “I can sleep on the floor if you don’t want to share a bed, I just… I thought you liked it last night, since you were holding onto me like crazy when I woke up.” His soft smile turns into a teasing grin as he says that. “Shut up,” I say, and take a step away from him, “we can share, if you promise to keep your hands to yourself.” He arches a brow at me. “Meaning?” “Meaning no touching any private places,” I clarify. “I can do that, for now,” he say

Chapter 29
Wait, is this real? Because I think I’m going crazy. Tell me something only Yohan would know, Alexander says, and I catch myself smiling a little. I’m actually mindlinking with my pack! And Alexander is a part of it! Holy shit, I’ll need to talk to him tomorrow. I also need to make sure he won’t tell Aiden or Azaire yet. I want to do that together.. You hate being alone, but you hate crowds, too, I tell him inside my head, ignoring “Jean” for now. The shortened version of something he told me a few nights ago was the only thing that came to mind to satisfy his request. I think my safest bet is to make Alexander believe that this is real. If it is. My imagination might be a little better than I thought if this isn’t real. Who are you two? I need names, Jean says, suddenly sounding desperate and angry. And where are you?! We’re looking for you! I can’t do this right now

Chapter 30
I close my eyes and bite my lip as I try to wiggle out of his hold, but that only seems to make him louder. Something has got to do the trick.. My brain is twisted and turned in every direction before I even think to kiss him. Maybe I should kiss him? It could work, right? I mean, I’d wake up if someone kissed me… I think. My tongue brushes over my lips slowly, and I look up at the troubled-looking boy in bed with me. He looks like he’s in physical pain, and I have to do something about it. Right now, preferably. I stretch my neck and wait until he’s closed his mouth again before I press my lips softly to his. His next growl transitions slowly into a moan as I feel his lips start to move against mine, and one of his hands moves up from the tight hold he had around me, to cup my face. I can tell he’s awake when he gently bites on my lower lip, and his canines are gone. He pulls on it, before he chuckles a little, and pulls away from
