ELENA’s POV   I am dressed in scrubs and brought into the operation theatre. Hunter lays in the middle of the room, and I hear the horrific beeping of the heart rate monitor. The beeping does not sound good. My eyes dart back and forth between the doctor who led me in and another few surgeons who are frantically trying to save Hunter. An old woman whom I had not noticed before steps out from the shadows. Instantly I know she is no ordinary woman. She is the pack’s witch doctor. She takes one look at me and flashes me a toothy grin. “So this is the omega who  has come to save her Alpha.” I understand now. I understand why they need a female omega. They need someone without a social standing, someone whom the pack will not mourn if she were to bite the dust, someone who will not affect the power struggle in any pack. Someone like me. But I don’t mind. I would go to the ends of the world and back if I co

ELENA’s POV I open my eyes to the soft rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor and am greeted by a magnificent dark blue skyline outside a rectangular window. It is breaking dawn.Slowly I turn my head away from the window and find myself in a private hospital room. The room is sparse but clean, and the lights had been switched off, with only blue and yellowish hues of the peeking sunlight illuminating the room. The place has a hint of a metallic tang from stainless steel in the open air and bleach wafting from the bed where I lay.I do not remember closing my eyes. Everything feels dull and hazy when I try to recollect my thoughts. I groan, think Elena, think! Then I remember, my last conscious memory was of Hunter laying next to me.Hunter!I sit up, pushing back a light grey blanket and attempt to jump off the bed only to feel a tug at my wrist.Oh.Looking down, I see a tiny IV tube poking out from

ELENA’s POV Once upon a time, I championed a vision. A vision where life would be full of smiles and handshakes, a vision where life would be only a bed of roses. And as a child, I had told father of my dreams to live such a life and he would always laugh in return, ruffling my hair before stooping to my then childish height and tell me, “Elena, have you forgotten that even a bed of roses has thorns?”Father was right. There is no such thing as a perfect world full of happily ever afters. Worlds like that exist only in fairy tales. The time for dreaming is over and I need to wake up. I must stay strong.I made a vow to end the life of the man who ruined mine. And today will be the day he will die.We tear through the woods, our howls echoing through the forest, one followed by another, Ian, Helios and I.Helios leads us and we all run together under the covers of the trees even as the moonlight shines throug

ELENA’s POV   The Sorceress tells me to leave with her but that both Ian and Helios are not to come. She orders them to stay in the cabin. Hearing this and realizing the gravity of the situation, Helios gives me an apologetic smile and for the first time, I see hesitance worming its way into his eyes. The man who laughs in the face of danger is afraid. “Be careful,” he says softly to me. I give him my most confident smile and nod. We depart immediately and the Sorceress brings me deeper and deeper into the forest. We come to a halt at the bottom of a hill and I frown, this place looks just like – “Light Paw?” I swear the Sorceress is a mind reader. I need to be careful to guard my thoughts against her. She laughs. “Silly child, I am no mind reader. Your naïve expression betrays your thoughts all too clearly.” She then points to the top of the hill. “The forest belongs to me, as does everything in it. I can

ELENA’s POV “Clyde….”He jumps down from the timber beams above and lands upright and directly in front of me, catching me completely off guard.  “I missed you.”I stare at him, frozen in place. My fear has cost me already. In an instant, he lashes out a foot and knocks the gun out of my hand. It flies through the air and as lightning flashes across the night sky, I catch a glimpse of the gun landing right at the edge of the first step of the staircase. From the corner of my eyes, I see it dangling like a little seesaw, tipping up and down, up and down. I estimate myself to be roughly six to eight feet away from it. Damnit, I need that gun!It is then I finally snap out of my fear like trance and the wheels in my brain begin to turn.“Where’s Freya?”Clyde smiles but his eyes are dark, I cannot tell what he is thinking.“Where do you think

ELENA’s POV A scream tears through the night. It is Clyde’s.He has been blinded in his remaining eye and instinctively releases his hold on the gun which falls onto the floor with a thud.“YOU BITCH!” Clyde roars. He is hurt and angry, but he is no fool. He regains his composure quickly and tries to choke me. How he continues to stand is anyone’s guess and I can only thank the moon goddess that he can no longer see. With great effort, I spring away and land somewhere near the edge of the landing. I crouch in the corner and keep very quiet after that, careful not to make any sound as he swings his arms from side to side wildly, trying to feel for me.“Fool!” He speaks the word like a curse. “What have you done to my eye!?”He covers his bleeding eye with a hand, but dark red streaks still flow between his fingers and drip onto the ground. “You’ll

HUNTER’s POVHOURS BEFORE CLYDE’S DEATH I awake from a dark dream only to find myself lying on a comfy soft bed. Dizzy with a headache that threatens to split my head into two, I roll to my side and crack my eyelids open.“Alpha.” A voice calls out from the edge of the bed. It is Liam.I am confused. Isn’t he supposed to be manning Ezekiel’s old pack? What is he doing here?I struggle to sit up and Liam immediately tends to me, pulling me upright. A look around the room tells me that this isn't my bed. In fact, it’s a hospital bed.Liam notes my confusion. “Alpha, you were caught in a blast at Light Paw Village.”And just like that, a backlash of memories from that night washes over me.“Clyde….” I hiss. “He got away?”“Yes, but Helios and two omegas have gone after him.”I palm my head and apply

HUNTER’s POV Clyde is dead. And with him, his vision of tyranny and insanity for domination of another world, a world that does not belong to us, a world that should and will forever be left unharmed. It is over for him now.We had burned him at the stake and all that is left of Clyde is his charred body. I do not care what he said, there will NOT be another Clyde. At present, Elena and I stand hand in hand in the cabin before the Sorceress. Behind her, Helios and Conner stand warily, their eyes never leaving the hypnotic movements of her dark green scaly tail.“Congratulations,” she says as she looks at us with those snake-like eyes of hers. She grins and licks her lips in a curiously unpleasant manner. Her tongue is dark red.“We kept our promise, it’s your turn to keep yours,” Elena speaks up and I tug at her hand, motioning for her to stop. We know little of the Sorceress, but th

ELENA’s POV   I sit on the ledge of the packhouse’s balcony, staring at the blueish hues of the morning skyline. A flock of birds fly across the sky, all ready for the dawn of a new day. I look at the bandages on my arms and thighs that cover my battle scars and exhale. Strange, but I do not how to feel right now. The Storm Riders pack stand victorious. We have won, there is nothing left to fear. I should be happy, exhilarated even, but I am not. It is odd but I feel like I have lost my direction in life. Back then, I was so caught up with vengeance that I never planned for anything after. And now with Clyde finally dead, I have to ask myself this question. Where do I go from here? “Careful or you might just fall off the balcony.” It is Kane and his voice pulls me out of my thoughts. He steps out to the balcony and stands next to where I sit. “You should be resting,” he says, drumming his fingers a

ELENA’s POV“Hello, Elena.”It is Freya. She stands at the doorway to the packhouse. Her hair which is usually never out of place is a mess and muddied locks cover one side of her eye. Her face is soiled and her once beautiful blue dress, torn and tattered.Nevertheless, she smiles when she sees me. I suck in a deep breath and fist my fingers so hard my nails create indents in my palms.“Freya.” The conversation with Hunter is still very fresh in my mind. My sister tried to kill him. And now she is back.“I thought I asked for you to leave and never come back,” Hunter’s voice calls out from the foyer. He strides over to where I stand and links his hand with mine, intertwining our fingers together.Freya gulps and tugs at her dress. Lowering her head, she whispers, “Please, forgive me for my insolence Alpha. I – I do not know what came over me to have done what
