Several ageless giants lay defeated on the ground, cut down by the Rogue army's hands. Above the humble trees, wind-sung tunes had changed to squalls of weeping sorrow over their fallen fellows. The feral animal created a fence with their furred bodies around the squared arena, making it impossible to escape. Nueva stood alone on the ground. Her heart raced, and her ears rang from the deafening roars from the surrounding masses. She wondered if this was how it would have felt to be a gladiator standing in the colosseum in ancient Rome. The wind was crisp but smelt foul; Nueva shivered from both. She was wearing a thin white long-sleeved jumper and loose boyfriend jeans. The forest floor pine-needle-covered carpet crunched under her yellow timberland boots as she paced on the spot.Nueva's white hair hung heavy on her back, braided in a similar but less complex style to what the Fay woman had done. This hairdo made her feel bad-ass and battle-prepared.Mar

Alpha Gray povAlpha Gray woke up face down in the dirt. Pine needles stung his drool-covered skin, and his body ached from being tied up with his arms on his back. His head pulsated, and he still felt weak from the remains of the poison. He could hear the Alpha Rogue growl in the distance, and through blurred vision, he could see the man drag Nueva into the wall of fog. The Rogue army followed, leaving the wood quiet and dark with only the disturbed forest inhabitants complaining.Alpha Gray inhaled slowly to reduce his heart rate and adrenaline flow. He needed to feel calm to use his senses better to observe the surroundings and determine how many soldiers were keeping guard. When Alpha Gray felt it was safe, he pushed his knees under his stomach and wiggled himself up against a tree trunk until he stood. Next, he brought his hands closer to the forest floor and untangled his unsteady legs over them. Then, with his hands at the front, he could move towards the first unsuspecting gua

The rain started falling, turning the dry snow into slushy sleet. Cold liquid droplets soaked through Nueva's clothes, and she shivered violently as they entered the Rogue army camp. The man threw a white winter jacket at Nueva, and she instantly wrapped the thermal garment over her rigid upper body. The coat was insulated with fluffy fleece, and Nueva sighed at the warm fabric hugging her frozen form."We can't have you freeze to death before you have done your part." The Alpha laughed a strange sound without emotion.A small platform raised above the rest was in the middle of the camp. The man pushed Nueva to the bottom of the stage and tied her to an iron pole.Nueva leaned her forehead against the cold metal; her lips grew thin and firm. She closed her eyes, and her shoulders slumped. Although her stomach complained in a gurgling rumble stirring nausea up into her throat, the crushing anxiety had stolen her appetite.Thousands of questions crept through Nueva's mind as cold spider

The storm howled and roared for hours, concealing the landscape in dull greys. The men had taken turns digging the way out of the snow moulds covering the exit of their Safehaven after the winds finally died down. Back outside, the tranquil winter landscape unveiled a serene weather change that lulled them into a false sense of security. Bright-white hills glisten over the fields basking in creamy yellow sunlight. The temperature was crisp but comfortable. Nueva found a tiny silvery-blue babbling brook between winter trees shivering in the bitter wind. Their naked branches were adorned with snow. Clusters of twigs, gnarled and twisted, extended like the very hands of older gentlemen against the pristine cloudless sky. The group quenched their thirst and drank greedily from the crystal clear mountain spring before continuing the search for the fog. Light purple shadows rested under the heavy fir trees as Nueva trudged next to Alpha Gray at the front in the deep dunes. Eira had f

Eira's coat glistened from sweat in the low light of the wintery sun. Her breath was laboured, and her pink tongue flapped in the wind. They had been galloping over the crusty frost-covered fields forever. Both of them were desperate for a moment of rest. But the demon had sealed the fog and the only way out.So instead, Nueva and her bestial wolf were trapped and locked away from their earthly world, running tirelessly to escape the imposing peril.Eira cut over the fields into the quiet woodland, darting between the weighty branches bowing down to the white land. The fresh, clean air was loaded with the unmistakable scent of snow. Dirty clouds floated over the sky with the promise of an impending refill of crystal stars.Suddenly the faint whispers returned. "Make fire with ice." The woman's voice sang beautifully with the winnowing breeze. "I don't understand?" Nueva groused, confused. But the voice only repeated the exact words."Eira, do you hear a woman's voice? Nueva asked her
