Chapter 21 – Better Off As Friends
(Alexander’s POV) “Kayleigh David!” I sighed, saying her name in a stern voice. Her eyes are sparkling with excitement as she moves closer to me, unbuckling my seatbelt when I didn’t unfasten mine. When she was done, she opened the door, confusing me more. “Come on, Alex!” She says excitedly, turning her back on me and leaning on the car. I blink, waking myself up from a lustful dream and getting out of the car. I walk in her direction, and when I am standing beside her, she anchors her arm into mine. She leads me to the pavement that I only notice just now. “It’s sad we can’t stay to dine here, but a takeaway would do,” she utters, stopping for a while to take a picture of us. When I didn’t smile, she gave me a look. “Smile, Cupcake. Make my uncle happy,&rdq

Chapter 22 – Giant Stuffed Toy
(Alexander’s POV) “Don’t touch anything,” Alfie whispers as I sit on Kayleigh’s chair. He warns me sternly as if there is something in her table that would interest me. Most of the spaces in their office occupy the lounge, a photo booth room, stock room, breakroom, and a small private office where I think the three of them share. Alfie left me again, giving me time to look around. I wouldn’t say I like sitting in her chair, too. I saw the problem when one of her things was moved, and I didn’t like Leigh to be looking for her stuff all day just because I touched one. I stood in front of the big corkboard on the wall where Alfie pinned a picture. I looked at the photos of the events they had in the past, and I could not help myself from smiling, finding each picture entertaining to see. My eyes darted on the pi

Chapter 23 – Her Dark Secret
(Alexander’s POV) My hand, trembling in anger, searched for the cigarette case in my pocket, took one stick as I looked blankly into space. My chest was so tight that I felt like wanting to explode in a wave of unexplainable anger. It was like somebody took something I owned. I close my eyes, remembering I don’t have a lighter. George always brings one with her, although she knew I gave up smoking years ago. It was just a habit that I always had a cigarette case in my pocket, and in this situation, I really wanted to smoke. The ‘cling’ sound of the metal lighter case opening causes me to turn my head to the person who stands beside me. Wendell lit his cigarette, and then he gave it to me. I placed the stick between my lips and lit the cigarette. We smoked quietly like no one wanted to start a conversation. “Leigh surpris

Chapter 24 – Nothing Will Happen
(Leigh’s POV)   “You should have just gone to the beach, Leigh. What’s this for?” Alfie asks after giving me the half-kilo of rock salt.   “I’ve been experiencing bad luck today,” I answered while checking on the salt. I wondered if it had something to do with marrying Alex or if something in me had changed since I met him. I shook my head, brushing off wild thoughts about him.   He took it back, surprising me. “I should have brought you pink Himalayan salt then.” He clucked his tongue as he placed it on the table.   “Hey!” I groaned, reaching for the paper bag, but Alfie took it again, and this time, he gave it to Elle.   “My God, Elle, it’s like unlocking a new level of curse in your life,” Elle says as she rolls her eyes on me. “Paulo, Wendell, and Sebastian, all in one day? Did something happen to you and Alex to anger heaven

Chapter 25 – The Ex Girlfriend
(Leigh’s POV) “Ribeye in the Sky?” repeats Alfie as we walk inside the high-rise building. Elle giggled. “Yeah, where the price is as high as the sky.” The building we were at is the second-highest building in the city, next to ABH Group of Companies’ main building, although we know that ABH still owns this building. We also know that it is never easy to make a reservation in this restaurant, it is difficult to make an appointment with the owner, and like what Elle said, the food price here is high. It was not my concern, though. As if my feet had a brake, I stopped walking, feeling I got stuck on the floor. Elle had to push me to go to the elevator area, where Alex instructed us to wait for him as he talked to the receptionist at the front desk. “Does Alex know the price of food here? Is

Chapter 26 – Fear in Everything
(Leigh’s POV) “Jealous, my foot!” I hissed angrily as I pulled a chair, sitting beside Elle and ignoring Alex’s charming smile. I lower my gaze, and despite him calling my name, I continue to ignore him because all it takes is one look, one kiss, and one touch, and then I forget everything. Elle puckered her lips, and her eyebrows raised as she rose to her feet and transferred to the chair across from me. When Alex sat beside me, I raised my hand to Elle, gesturing to her we should change seats. When she didn’t move, I glared at her, causing her to sneer at me, but she stood up. When we changed seats and I got settled in my chair, Alfie and Alex changed places. Elle raises the steak knife and growls at me. “If you ask me to stand up again, I assure you I will kill you. I’m hungry.”

Chapter 27 – Here, Here, Here, and Here
(Leigh’s POV) If anyone can survive without talking for long hours, I will be that one person. Royce and Kayla told me it was one of my many talents that annoys my other siblings. From the parking lot of the building until we reached home, I did not utter a word, neither did Alex. We let GPS do the talking for three hours, recalculating the route many times because I didn’t tell him the direction, and he didn’t have the guts to ask me. As soon as he stopped the car, I immediately unfastened my seatbelt to stay away from Alex, hoping to open the door and run to the swimming pool, but he was fast. He holds my wrist, and his eyes narrow as he studies my face. I met his dark brown eyes, squinting my eyes on him, and pressed my lips, promising myself I would win this battle. It was hard to read his eyes, but after putting myself in an embarrassing situation

Chapter 28 – Make A Baby
(Alexander’s POV) The dinner was much better and more relaxing than last night. I realized that this was how they spent their meals on ordinary days, a conference-like dinner, giving updates on how their day went in a fun way, and when Carlito opened up about what happened on the 47th floor, they couldn’t help themselves from laughing. I was entertained when they told stories about how Leigh tried to overcome her fear of height but failed to conquer her acrophobia many times. My eyes lovingly pinned on Leigh, and looking at her laughing at every shared story made me understand that she may have lots of issues, but she did her best to resolve them. Although she failed many times, I still think she was still trying. Being part of this family made me realize that dinner could be fun. I hardly remember enjoying dinner without talki

Chapter 29 – I Wanted More
(Leigh’s POV) As soon as he closed the door, he put me down, turned his back on me, and went to the bathroom. My gaze follows him until he closes the bathroom door. I heave a sigh, concluding our act of overflowing sweetness is over. Another day as Mrs. Hearst is over. I walk to my dresser, take my yoga mat, and place the jar in the middle. I hug my knees and look at the mixed pebbles inside the jar. This will be a long night, indeed. But I can’t just be mad at Katherine for taking the jar and playing with the colorful pebbles. I sighed again, unsure if it was because of the pebbles or about Alex, who just left me here. My head raised when the bathroom door opened, and my lips parted, seeing Alex wearing nothing except the towel wrapped around his waist. “What are you doing there, Mrs. Hearst?” he asks, hi

Chapter 30 – Beginning of Long Night
(Leigh’s POV) I was annoyed when Alex switched the sprinkle of water from warm to cold, and as he promised, we finished taking a shower without any kisses, and the only touch I got was when he lathered the soap on my body. I didn’t even understand why he had to give me a bath when I was capable of doing it myself. I felt disappointed and angry, and I went out of the bathroom brooding, stomping my feet as I walked out that I had missed the jar. The open glass container fell, and the colorful pebbles were scattered on the yoga mat. “Argh!” I screamed briefly as I knelt on the mat and picked up the pebbles to return them to the jar. I grabbed a handful of colorful pebbles, and when I stared at them in my palm, my attention shifted to them. I sat down on the mat, forgetting I was still wrapped in my towel, and then put all the pebbles on the floor and
