CHAPTER 50
KAHLAN, CHAD, AND SANDINO Sandino looked behind him and sure enough it was Chad. He stood there with a blank expression on his face. What did he see? How long was he there? "Hey," Chad said, voice deep, first looking at his best friend and then at me. "What are you doing here Dino?" Dino looked. "Relationship advice," Sandino answered, taking his hands from around me. "No one knows more than Kahlan." Chad walked a little closer and just continued to stare. I hadn't been accused of anything...yet, and I already wanted to spill the beans and bust out with apologies. "Yes," I added, "Sandino has decided that there isn't any other girl that he is interested in besides Brooke." Sandino looked back at me, his face displaying disappointment, then he turned his attention back to Chad. "Kahlan makes an excellent point," Sandino replied, "I've decided to give Brooke another chance. I just had to thank her for all her help with a kiss--HUG!" I looked at Sandino, wanting to slap him upside hi

CHAPTER 51
KAHLAN His hand was shaky, but the rest of his body was still as his blue eyes stared at my father and I. I had seen the blood on his shirt. I was sure he was hurt, but I wasn't sure where. The blood could belong to Angela. I had my face in my father's chest, holding on to him. He and I were afraid for our lives. Ryan's face was wet. He looked as if he had been crying, or sweating insanely hard. "I love you!" He shouted, with a bit of a whine. "Can't you see that?" He paused, waiting for a response, but I didn't have one. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!" I forced myself to turn around and face him. "I'll do anything for you. I'm not like your mother. I won't just leave you in your time of need." I stared. "Do you get that?" He had been asking so many questions tonight, and I never answered any of them. "ANSWER ME!" It was obviously getting to him. "I don't want to be with you!" I cried back, finding my voice. "I will never ever want to be with you again!" His eyes were wide.

CHAPTER 52
KAHLAN AND DAMON Damon had found an ad that seemed to have everything he was looking for. One bedroom, one bathroom, close to the beach. That was all he needed and it was in his price range. He pulled up to a tiny house, seeing the 'For Rent' sign almost immediately. The place looked bigger and nicer than he thought. His initial thought was to get an apartment, then he thought about how he planned to stay here. So, he looked into houses too, just in case. He got out of the car, having the home stand over him, blocking him from the sun. He wanted to take a closer look, so he did. He had reached the front door, seeing that it had a doorbell. There was only one window at the front of the house, and as you looked in, he saw a hallway with tile floor, and a nicely carpeted living room. He wanted to see more, so he made his way around the side, only to be stopped by a fence and someone crying. He looked around, thinking that maybe someone was hurt, or he was hearing things. Then, he looked

CHAPTER 54
KAHLAN AND ASHLEY "It's Monday." That was my first sentence of the day. God, I hate Mondays, this Monday in particular. Today, I would go to school and face Chad and Sandino. I hadn't spoken to neither of them and our conversations hadn't ended on a good note. Then there was James Blake...His name meant trouble and seeing him meant worse. How would he be at school? Would he approach me? And last, I would meet with Damon Meir. He was going to be full of questions. There was no doubt about it. As I walked onto the school campus, the first person I saw was Ashley. "Sooo, how was your weekend?" She asked. I looked over at her, letting out a sigh. She gave a chuckle, as she worked to put her long hair into a messy bun. "That bad huh?" She squinted, trying to keep the bright light from the morning sun out of her eyes as she looked at me. "You have no idea." She hooked on to my arm, eyes still on me. "Why don't you tell me about it?" I stared. There was nothing wrong with talking

CHAPTER 55
ROBERT AND CARLY Carly and her father walked through the front door of their home, coffee drinks in their hands, in mid conversation. Robert laughed, as he held the door open for his only daughter, who talked about the cute cashier who seemed to be flirting with him. "I'm trying to tell you dad, she's into you. Why else would she always add an extra splash of Vanilla and extra whipped cream, without charging you, like she's supposed to." "She was being nice," he answered, closing and locking the door. Carly made her way into the living room, sitting on the couch, with that bright smile of hers still on display. Robert sat in a comfy one-person chair to the right of her, taking notice of the happiness she was showing. It was strange to him, he thought she would be on edge for a while, scared and keeping to herself, but she wasn't. She was being just the opposite. "You know, I think I should pull you out of school more often, just so we can have these moments." "Yeah right," she

CHAPTER 56
THE MEIR FAMILY "How was your day?" Ella asked Damon, as he threw himself on to the couch, setting his bag down on the floor, in the usual spot. He let out a yawn, before answering. "It was good." "How about your client? How is she?" Ella didn't know too much about Kahlan. She knew that she had lost family members, but that was about it. "She's fine. I think she may be getting better." "That's good." He stood up, stretching. Ella watched him intently. "I'm so tired." Another yawn took place. "I didn't get much sleep last night." "Why not?" Ella questioned. He shrugged. "I don't know. I guess there is just too much going on in my mind." Just like that, his mind went back to Kahlan. She was starting to take over his every thought. He flashed back to their secret moment, and it was like he could feel all the hair on his body stand up. That was the feeling that he was trying to chase away. "I'm going to take a nap." "Do you want to eat dinner first?" She asked.

CHAPTER 57
THE TWINS Mya used the oven mittens to hold on to a glass pan of green bean casserole; her favorite dish. She made her way from the kitchen, through the swinging door to the dining room, setting it in the middle of the table. She smiled, looking forward to dinner. She glanced around the room, seeing nothing but empty chairs. Unfortunately, this would be a meal that she would enjoy on her own. Paul, her father, was working and Amy was on a date with her official boyfriend Jason. Mya took off the gloves and apron, setting them in the chair beside her. She used a large wooden spoon to scoop it into a bowl and then she took a seat. And she quietly ate, alone. "I had a good time tonight," Amy stated, using both of her hands to clasp on to Jason's large arm. He smiled. It was a simple date for him, but to her this was her first official date. Not with Jason, but with anyone. It was just dinner and a movie. Typical. Still, it made her happy that Jason had chosen her. "I'm glad," he sa

CHAPTER 58
KAHLAN AND DAMON I stood at the sliding door, looking out at the backyard through the thick glass, still not wanting to face Damon. How could he be so careless and leave my personal file out, lying around where anyone could get a hold of it. "Do you believe me?" I heard him ask. I turned around. "Yes." I answered. He walked closer. "I am so sorry for my sister. I don't know what's wrong with her---."I put my hand up, cutting him off. He stared. "As long as you don't think those things about me...because there is nothing wrong with me. I'm not depressed, or emotionally unstable." He stared, shaking his head. "Yes. I know that now. It's different. I think you are a strong beautiful woman, amazing. I love the way you embrace life and your sarcastic way. I love that you're stubborn and I believe that you can take care of yourself mentally and emotionally. You're great--- you're independent." I stared at him, as all of this seemed to come pouring out of his mouth. "Is t

CHAPTER 59
KAHLAN AND DAMON "Brrring. Brrring. Brrring." My house phone rang off the hook. I pulled away from Damon's lips. I was lying on top of him, legs on either side of him. One of his large hands rested on my thigh, while the other one played with my hair. His eyes flung open. I eyed the phone, which was on the side table behind his head. "No." That was his only response as he pulled me back down, his lips touching mine. The ringing stopped and once again, I allowed myself to get lost. He was a good kisser. It felt like he could melt all my problems away. Then I heard a soft humming sound that seemed to grow louder and louder. It was my cell on the coffee table. "Let it ring," he said, breaking away for just a moment. I chuckled against his medium sized lips. The humming sound continued. "I can't," I spoke, sitting up on top of him. He let out a groan as he shifted underneath me. I grabbed the phone, putting it to my ear. I already knew who it was. "Hey Tina." He smiled. I looked d
