His breathing is labored, a roughness to the sound.Eliana, although on the brink of collapse herself, runs after Conrad as he carries Jasper close to his chest. There are dried tears and blood on her cheeks and her skin is tainted. She pushes stray locks from her sight as she hobbles faster."We are almost there." Beatrice gasps, her eyes wild with fear. They will save Jasper, right? She fights the tears swarming as they reach the border of the werebear sanctuary. Chapter 12: Love?
"Is this love," Eliana questions herself as she brushes locks of Jasper's hair away from his forehead. He is still sweating profusely, so most of his body is drenched."No, it could not possibly be." Right? Eliana caresses his features with her eyes, running the length of his jawline and his thick brow, reveling in how perfect it is. His lips, plump and bright red from the fever, are open just slightly enough in order for him to breathe from it. His eyelashes are thick and full, hugging his cheeks beautifully.Envy bites at Eliana's heart before it is taken over by a fluttering heat."I mean, what other reason could explain my excessive reaction when he was injured in battle, or my obsession with making sure he is safe?" She ponders all of this to herself, not quite sure what to believe."What are you thinking about as you stare at me."Jasper's sudden voice shatters Eliana's reverie, causing her to jump back, landing on her bad ankle. She winces and tumbles to the ground."Elian

Chapter 13: The Darcy History
"Eliana, please, you have done enough. Take a break, you deserve it. Jasper's friend Evyn is outside. He will accompany you and show you around the sanctuary, since papa is off meeting with some old friends." Mama explains quietly as they both sit near Jasper.Eliana blinks away the fatigue wracking her body. "I am okay, mama, I prefer to stay here." She forces a smile on her lips, but it fades almost immediately. Beatrice's gaze softens, "Dear, you have done so much for us, truly. Take some time and relax."Eliana wonders in her mind, "Once I leave this tent, I will be surrounded by strange werebears.""Is it safe," is what she ends up asking.A smile tugs at Beatrice's lips, "Yes, the sanctuary is peaceful. The Chief casts out any individuals that cause a ruckus. You will be safe."Eliana tightens her grip on her shirt, nodding softly. She cannot help but think, though, "I barely trust the Darcy's, much less the entire werebear sanctuary.""Go, honey, I will watch over Jasper

Chapter 15: Another One??
Eliana is unable to look the Chief in the eye as she sits across from him. The tent that they are in, is much larger than the one Jasper is resting in. There is a large bed and on the other side, stock piles of provisions."How am I going to get out of here," she ponders to herself."Do not be frightened, young woman. I do not bite," the Chief grins.Hiding the shiver nipping at her neck, Eliana swallows roughly. "I would like to thank you for allowing us to stay, while Jasper heals.""Ah, but of course. The Darcy's are still a part of my clan. You on the other hand, are not."She bites back a whimper, "I know, and I am terribly sorry for the intrusion."The Chief leans back in his chair, "It is perfect timing, truly. That the Princess of Drein appears at my door at the same moment as Climont troops invade my territory.""W-what are you talking about?" Tears begin to blind her, as fear builds in her chest. Eliana's body begins to quiver.Scoffing, he sneers, "Oh come now. I hav

The gravelly tone to his words causes irritation to build in her chest."Such disrespect," she sighs, outloud."This is Climont, Drulians are outlawed in this country. Jasper's shoulders dip at her response. His heart warms, "Thank you," he says under his breath. It takes a moment for him to realize the position they are in. Eliana is so close to him, that the heat of her body causes his skin to itch. Every nerve stands on end, wanting to get closer. He opens his mouth to speak once more, his gaze lingering on her lips as she bites it. He slides his hand from her cheek to the back of her head, and then is reminded of his mother's words."It does not matter what you feel, she is a human. It will never work between the two of you. You are from two different worlds."Swallowing all of his emotions, Jasper steps away, reluctantly, "You should change out of that. It will be hard to maneuver through the trees."Eliana glances down at herself before looking at her other set of clothes, "Uh, I was helped into this dress." She takes turns putting pressure on each side. Her ankle is not hurting much."It has been almost three days, are you sure we should be wasting our time training like this," she asks, rolling her shoulders. "Should we not be trying to outrun the Climont soldiers?"Jasper nods, straightening his posture before moving to her side. "Correct, but we are at least a day's journey ahead of them. We can take a small amount of time to make sure you can protect yourself the next time they come."Eliana nods, but is emotionally shaken, as Jasper touches her wrist.
