Chapter eleven: results
After asking into nothing if Sei was really there, I realized that it was ridiculous of me to do so, so I just drove home. I concluded that what happened, was only in my head. I have no idea why Sei, of all people, would be the one I thought of for comfort but I won't question it any further since it actually worked. I drove up to my familiar white painted house, getting welcomed by the beautiful red roses I had spent months trying to plant. They looked lovely but maintaining them was difficult, I would have to hire someone to do it after this unknown creature ordeal is over. I didn't park my car in the garage, figuring that I was bringing out a bunch of luggage to put inside it anyways. I reversed and stopped, the boot of my car facing my front door.Satisfied with the position of my car, I stepped out and opened the boot, finding nothing but a spare tire inside and a couple of tools for if I ever needed to change one. I pushed them further back to make space for my stuff and turn

Chapter twelve: say no more
"He's not human, is he?"I picked up the remote and opened the wall. I wanted to ask Sei that and hear his response. Maybe, if he decided to lie, I would be able to see through it. Or maybe, he would tell the truth.Just as I suspected, his pale skin was back along with his longer greyish blue hair. I saw him shirtless and in black boxers. He was sitting on the floor with his back against the side of the bed, his head thrown back. "Sei." I called him, stepping closer to the wall. He snapped his head up and looked at me with shocked eyes. Looks like he hadn't heard me entering after all. "Scientist..." He said softly, brushing through his soft curls with his fingers, trying to push them back. "You here? Why?" "I was supposed to receive some results, I'll be leaving in a few minutes." I told him, "who were you talking to?""H-huh?" He asked, looking like a deer caught in headlights. He was genuinely confused about me being here and even more shocked that I had heard him talking."Who

Chapter thirteen: guilty
"Coming!" A woman called out when I knocked. I shoved my hands back into my pockets, feeling cold. The rain had wet me while I was outside, so much that I was shaking a little bit. My clothes were partially soaked, making me want to rip them off my body. The door was yanked open and a woman that was about the same height as me faced me. She had blonde hair that was tied up into a messy bun and had a blue scrunchie around it. She was wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans, a white apron tied up from around her neck. She was wearing brown slippers, the colour being the same dark brown her small eyes had. "You must be Akielia. I thought you weren't coming anymore." She said with a tone I could not understand. It certainly was not happy or excited. I nodded, "I was working. Sorry for the wait."I waited for her to tell me to come inside but she just turned on her heels and walked away. I shrugged and picked up my suitcase, following her. Entering, I could smell a lot of things at once. Ther

Chapter fourteen: inside the woods
"Sarah, this is not a good idea." I tried convincing her, pulling over in the middle of nowhere. "Why did you stop? You said you know where he is." She said, turning to face me. "You can't stop now. I have to do this.""You can do this tomorrow morning, not in the middle of the night. How are we even going to find him in those woods?" I asked her. Sarah had dragged me out of her house and into my car, demanding that I took her to Damien. I tried fighting her back but she was a strong woman physically and she was not taking 'no' for an answer. But it's not a good idea to look for him. It's not safe, especially today. It was raining heavily and no forest is safe when it rained, especially at night. There could be mudslides and flooding, some wild animals did not mind hunting in the rain. Let's not forget the government, they could arrest us or even shoot at us, thinking we were a threat. "We could get lost in there." I told her. I didn't need to list all of the other problems. I had

Chapter fifteen: lying to the police
Beep... Beep... Beep..."She's fine—"Beep... Beep... Beep..."...just has a fever but she'll be—"Beep... Beep... Beep...God, what is that noise?Where am I?I slowly opened my eyes, a painful bright light coming from next to me making me quickly close them shut. I slowly turned my back on that light, flinching at the pain I felt all over my body. What happened?I tried opening my eyes again, this time being able to do so without being blinded. I blinked a few times, trying to get rid of my blurred vision. I was tired, both physically and mentally. I didn't remember where I was or what had happened. I closed my eyes again and tired to remember... But I just saw mostly darkness. I could still hear the sound of crashing waves in that unexplainable darkness and the loud rain hitting the ground.I opened my eyes once more, this time there was no blur in my vision and I could see everything. I went back to laying on my back and carefully propped my elbows up on the soft material I was lay

Chapter sixteen: a bunch of questions
Sarah's deadQuick steps with no stop...Sarah's deadIgnoring anyone who spoke to me or called my name...She's dead, humanHeading to one place only, to get the answers to my many questions...She's dead...I scanned my card and stepped inside the laboratory, making my way to my desk. I had gotten discharged from the hospital and had gotten away with lying to the police, thanks to Sei. The sun was setting, the sky a mix of purple and orange. I could not see the sunset from my lab because it had no windows but I had seen it as I drove to the building.I couldn't ignore this anymore, I had to ask Sei what was going on.That's if he was still even here, he did say that he was planning to escape today. I picked up the grey remote and pressed the two buttons, lifting up both the walls. I wanted him to explain himself, with no glass wall separating us. I wanted to hear everything coming from his mouth. The walls slowly slid up and down, this time it felt like they were taking forever to

Chapter seventeen: his escape
"PLEASE MAY YOU ALL STAY WHERE YOU ARE UNTIL SUBJECT MM2077 HAS BEEN RECAPTURED. WE BELIEVE THAT HE IS STILL IN THE BUILDING."I looked up at the red lights, my hands still on my face as I wiped my tears. They had stopped flowing, my emotional pain getting replaced by curiosity. I wasn't sure if I was surprised about Sei- Silas escaping or not. He did let me know so I was not too shocked about it yet hearing the alarms did freak me out.I stood up from the toilet and made my way outside of the stall. I wondered if Mr Hughes was in the building. I still didn't know how the hunt went but since Sharlene came back alive, I'm assuming that all went well for them.Wait, Silas said it was a failed task earlier so perhaps it didn't.I stepped out of the restroom and into the main lobby, where everyone usually sat if they were waiting to be attended to. The exit was closed shut and the blinds were closed, making the only source of light be the red light from the ceiling. It looked like every l

Chapter eighteen: the homeland
"Can you just drop me off over there?" I asked Damien, pointing towards the entrance of the woods. It was the same one Sarah and I had used at night. Seeing it made me feel saddened all over again. There was a narrow dirt trail leading up to the tall, closely packed trees. Even with the sun out, there was still darkness between the trees, showing just how little light made its way through the canopies."There's no need for that. We're all driving to a motel just outside of the city. It's a couple of miles away so that thing can't track us down." Damien said, driving past the spot I told him to stop. I turned to glare at him, "stop. I'd like to get off.""Why? It's not safe for you. We're in the middle of nowhere. Are you trying to get yourself killed?" "Babe, just let her leave. It's her choice." Sharlene intervened, rubbing his shoulders from the back seat."I just want to ensure that you guys are safe." Damien said, obviously getting frustrated. Sharlene and I stared at each othe

Chapter nineteen: the family
After I took a bath and dressed up, I let Silas lead me to his family. I had worn a long green floral dress and black high heels. I tied my black hair back into a low ponytail and wore a small rose gold chain I found on the dressing table. I wore no make up since it was pretty early into the day.I looked around the mansion as we made our way to our destination. It was a beautiful place, resembling what I've always imagined a palace would look like on the interior. The main colours were rose gold and white, making the place look all the more majestic. We walked down a flight of spiral stairs and that was when I could hear a group of people laughing. Silas held my hand and led me to tall double doors, where the sound was coming from. My heart started beating loudly. I was really nervous about meeting their family, their parents especially. I was his and Sei's soulmate and as much as the concept still confused me, I just knew that it had to be a big deal for them.I took a deep breath a

Chapter twenty: cherry pie
Sei led me to the opposite direction of the room I had woken up in. I was curious to know where he was taking me but I was more focused on what happened back there with his family. I looked up at him, seeing that his sharp jaw was clenched. I hadn't even noticed that he looked angry until now."What's wrong?" I asked him softly. He looked down at me and unclenched his jaw, lifting my hand up to kiss my knuckles. He didn't say anything but that wasn't a surprise to me. Sei didn't say much compared to Silas. Perhaps he was finding it difficult to word out his feelings in a way for me to understand."It's not that at all." Silas grumbled behind me. I whipped around to look at him, shocked that I had not heard him following behind us. "He doesn't know English. He's still taking lessons." I looked back at Sei with raised eyebrows. He told me that he knew English back at the lab. He cleared his throat softly, looking anywhere but at me, embarrassed that he had gotten caught. 'Sei wanted to
