Book 1: Chapter Seventy-One
I sat in one of the booths in the far corner of the room. Noah and Finn were unloading the new inventory for the week and I was kicked out of helping or being in the way. Currently, I had my earbuds in my ears and I was pouring over a laptop. Getting my entire army together wasn’t an easy feat. Unlike the other Alpha Princes or even the Alpha King, I didn’t force my guys to stick to one location. If I needed them to do a task, I relegated a specific group to that area. Considering all of them were rogues, it made it easier for them to move around. It didn’t make it easy calling them all into one place again. I hadn’t done it for many years. The last time we were in Cairo. “You sure you want everyone?” Keri was on the other end this time. She was further south working out of a local coffee shop. Looking up, I was quiet as Noah and Finn walked past with multiple cates in hand. “I mean, we are talking hundreds of Hunters. I’m not going to leave it to chance. If they take Silas’ territor

*** Noah’s POV *** I slammed the door to my Jeep shut as I put my hands in the pockets of my jeans. This was the third time I was going to the store this week. Finn’s pregnancy cravings were getting out of hand and with Solaris not being allowed to drive, I had to make all the runs. The workers in the store were starting to know me on the first name basis at this point. As I walked through the sliding doors, I pulled out my phone and looked at the list Finn gave me.Cucumbers, peanut butter, a berry tea, every type of chocolate, and vanilla wafer cookies. The last one had a note in parenthesis. ‘Aelia wanted these but she didn’t want to bother you’. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. I was angry with her. The Alpha King showing up with never a good thing. It always meant something bad and the fact that he had his serious face on only proved the point. Her ordering us upstairs and then not telling us what it was about threw me over the edge. Was I still angry with her? Yes but

Her command again left no room for disobedience. The hair quickly receded from my body and my stretched features of the lycan form dropped back to that of my normal size. Wye took the opportunity to get the hell out of the drivers seat and he disappeared into the recesses of my mind where he stayed most of the time. He was more coherent than Kon, Fynn’s wolf, was but we were still rogues. They were about as straight wolves as you could get, unable to speak or really think outside of their own instincts.Fingers dug into my skin as Solaris grabbed my chin and pulled my head up to look at her much like she had done with Wye. Her eyes were bright and I felt tears start to fall.“Let the power go, Sol. It will kill you, please. I’m back. I’m sorry. Please.” I begged her as I reached out and cupped her face. “Please love…let it go.”Her lips turned down in a frown though. “You will apologize to you mate. You will apologize for your fucking behavior. After that, you will not ask me or quest

I jolted awake and my neck cracked in the worst way. Massaging it, I tried to take stalk of where I was. For a second, I couldn’t remember why I was sleeping in the passenger seat of my car. As I rubbed my eyes, it all came back to me and I reached out into the command but it wasn’t there. Throwing the blanket into the drivers side, I stumbled out of the car, slammed the door shut, and ran to the front door the bar. It was locked and I cursed. Jogging around the back, I used the thumbprint to get in and I nearly slid past the stairs as I ran.My hurried run stopped as I looked at the partially open door to our living quarters. What would I find on the other end of that? Finn had completely shut down the bond but I knew that fist only went down because Solaris needed him. What condition was Solaris in? I swallowed and took the steps up and slowly swung the door open. Stepping up to the bed, I tried not to cry.Finn was curled up next to her, his legs intertwined with her, his head on h

“That doesn’t mean you should have water boarded him, Finn. What the hell?”“I didn’t water board him. He drank almost an entire bottle of tequila on his own. I don’t know what he thought it was but he was drinking it like whiskey. He tried to congratulate me on my pregnancy, Sol.”There was a huff and I heard a slap. “He drank that much because you decided to try and reject him before shift started. You know your bond takes rejection, no matter if it’s official or not, really seriously. He’s already suffering under his own feelings, don’t make it worse.”I heard Finn scoff and I tried to sit up but my body felt too heavy and lethargic.“You just are willing to forgive him? Just like that. He nearly killed you. Both making you use your power and actually trying to crush your throat. You just going to let him…”“I’m not. He’s receiving his punishment until I see fit. As Alpha, I have the right to do that when there is insubordination under me. He is still suffering those consequences.

*** Silas POV *** I sat with Sam and Nate in the corner. I offered to take Sam out to anywhere he wanted to go but he chose The Wayward Tap. It surprised me that he wanted to go here considering he was such a lightweight but he seemed to be holding his own as he drank an old fashioned. After a few minutes, Aelia joined us.Nate got up and helped her into the booth and she thanked him. His eyes were on her the whole time, still making sure she was okay. I think it had left a lasting scar watching her die at Maggies. I’d found him a couple times in the evening sitting up in the kitchen or his office, unable to sleep. He never said specifically what was the issue but I knew it was related to her. Hell, sometimes the thoughts and fears kept me up at night as well.“Boys having fun?”Sam lifted up his drink. “Always. Alpha’s treat.”She raised her eyebrow. “Oh? Gonna get hammered today, Sam?”He laughed and leaned in. “Maybe I will!”I kept the smile on my face small. “At least wait till

“Hey Sol?” Sam looked up at Aelia who was leaning back into my side. She hummed, taking a sip of her half-drunk whisky sour. “What happens if mates don’t do anything about their connection?” “You mean if they don’t mark each other or reject each other?” Sam nodded. Aelia narrowed her eyes for a second before answering. “In a normal connection, nothing bad would technically happen. As long as you aren’t in close proximity with each other, it would be easier to ignore. The issue would be if you were in close proximity. Our wolves are very possessive and once they know their mate, all they want to do is mark them. So it becomes very hard to control your wolf or want to be part from them.” “What’s a non-normal case look like?” Charles asked. I felt out of the loop in their line of questioning. They seemed so familiar with speaking with Aelia that it was shocking, especially Charles. Nate also looked like he felt the same as me, looking at them curiously, but our minds were too liquo

I sat at the kitchen island with my phone out. Sam was leaning against the island on the far end, with paperwork spread out before him.“I think if we adjust the patrols to double, we will still be okay to hold full trainings. I just think it would be best to split into two trainings, one in the morning and one in the evening. It would allow a better option.”“Yes, but who is running the two sessions? You offering to take up the night training, Sam?” I raised an eyebrow at him.He stammered. “You know I can’t. I can’t even be in the same area with them without sinking to the floor. How the hell am I supposed to run an entire training session?”I laughed and shook my head. “Then who do you suppose should run the training? Huh? Nate already takes care of the morning.”“I was hoping…you would…”My eyes narrowed. “Because I don’t have enough on my plate. Sam, you give me my plate every day. You think I can handle a night training too?”“I mean…I could take care of some of that paperwork.

*** Sam’s POV *** My jaw was slack as I watched Charles leave without even a word. I didn’t know how to feel. I was angry at Alpha for making him go. Whatever Alpha was talking about clearly was a big issue. Part of me couldn’t actually be mad though. Alpha was saying this out of my protection, not wanting me to get hurt. Charles on the other hand, not only didn’t say anything but he up and left. My heart hammered in my chest.‘Mate.’ Renji growled as I felt his irritation at watching him go.‘I know. But I don’t think this is going to be the last time. At least, I hope not.’Renji paced up a little. ‘You’re right. If he doesn’t though, I’ll go after him myself.’I looked over at Alpha who was running his hands through his hair. Even his face showed he wasn’t happy about what just happened. I looked down at the paperwork in front of me.“Alpha…”“I’m sorry, Sam. I really am. If it could have been avoided, I would have but I will not let you get hurt.” There was an edge in his voice a

I looked up at the neon sign. Under the name, it had a pool cue hitting a ball. The parking lot was completely empty, save for a black sedan in the back and Charles’ Audi. It took me fifteen minutes but I followed Alpha’s advice and drove to Antone’s. Now, I was standing outside, rethinking this whole thing.‘Sam, just go in. Don’t think about all the possibilities. This isn’t something you can just work out. This deals with emotions.’I growled. ‘Easy for you to say. You don’t have to do any talking.’Renji chuckled. ‘You may be right but so am I.’Sighing, I squared my shoulders and headed towards the door. Opening it up, it was exactly like I pictured it. It was completely dark save for the lights over the pool tables. It had the old school stain glass lights and dark wood paneling on the wall. Outside of the bartender, I didn’t see anyone else but there was also a room off to the left side of the bar.Walking up the bartender, I smiled and looked at the array of alcohols or right
