Chapter 31
This time, it was Duke Hagan who spoke for the others since they looked like cowards unable to stand for what they thought was right.“Your Imperial Highness,” he said, “the kingdom she ruled over a short period of time is completely different from our empire. Besides, as we are all informed about, queens in the eastern continent are not meant to take on political responsibilities. They are simply there to give birth to heirs. The empress in our empire, however, is not only for breeding.”Some of the ministers agreed while the others remained quiet as if they were still observing and weighing their options, whether to support the emperor or Duke Hagan.Sir Vlachos then added, “Plus, Emery Trigon is only known for her victory in the battlefield once. As we all are aware of the situation, Varmore does not need that kind of empress. We need someone who can fulfill her duties as a wife and as the mother of the empire.”Emperor Claus got their point and if he insisted on what he wanted, it

Chapter 32
The conversation between Emery and Emperor Claus was interrupted when the maidservant came and announced the presence of the physician. Since the emperor himself felt something odd about Emery, he let the physician check on her first while he waited on the other side of the room.Staring into space, he could only think of one thing—Emery lost her memories. He shook his head and thought, “No. She could also be pretending to have no memory of what happened years ago. It could be her way of trying to find her way out of this place.”Walking back and forth, he waited for the physician to finish checking up on Emery. It was agitating for the emperor since a lot of questions were swirling in his mind and only Emery could answer them. And not to mention, what Castor told him a while ago also bothered him. “Their voices are the same,” he thought, “but there is a possibility that this is a simple coincidence. Maybe she just sounds like Sapphire. They… They cannot be the same person.”The emp

Hearing two distinct voices beside her, Emery slowly opened her eyes and saw the emperor speaking with the physician. Recalling what happened, she was in the library discussing the upcoming competition with the emperor, but she suddenly had a headache and that was it. She examined her surroundings and found herself lying on her bed. Since she felt a bit better, she sat up and caught the attention of the two.Emperor Claus approached her and squeezed her hand.“Are you alright? Are you in pain or anything?” he asked, obviously worried.“I’m fine, Your Imperial Highness. I think I just lack sleep that’s why I lost consciousness,” she replied with a reassuring smile. The emperor did not believe her since he got used to her white lies just for him not to get worried. He took the medicine left by the physician and handed it to her. This was the first time she had lost consciousness again after months of being stable and other than the fact that there could be an underlying complication wit

Chapter 34
Emery’s laughter was cut off when the knight looked at her with fear, anxiousness, and relief. Somehow, her joke went too far so she smiled apologetically.“I… I’m sorry. I did not mean to scare you,” she said with a soft-spoken voice. The knight slowly put her down without saying a thing. He simply squatted in front of her as he looked down on the ground with both of his hands touching the back of his head. Emery, on the other hand, sat right next to him before nudging him on the shoulder.“Sir Castor, a-are you seriously mad at me right now?” she asked.Castor tilted his head and met her gaze, but instead of getting mad, he simply let out a chuckle.“How can I get mad at you?” he said. In his mind, he added, “Besides, seeing you smile only for me felt like my heart would burst anytime.”Emery was relieved to hear that from him so she stood and stretched her hand, wanting to help him stand but he did not accept her offer and simply sat back on the bench, acting like nothing happened.

Chapter 35
Staring into each other’s eyes for a few minutes, it was only that time did Emery realize something. “Sir Castor,” she said with a smile, “you’re beautiful, especially your chocolate brown eyes.” It took a few seconds for Castor to process the words he just heard and when it dawned on him, his cheeks burned red. Unable to bear her compliment, he held her on the shoulders and pushed her away, out of fear that he might just close the distance between them.  “A-Are you okay? Your ears are suddenly all red like tomatoes,” Emery commented and even held his ear. “Don’t!” Castor pleaded, taking her hand away from him. He stood and simply walked towards

“What do you mean nothing is wrong with her?” the emperor asked, glaring at the royal physician. “This is already the second time she fainted for no reason.” “Your Imperial Highness, this is most likely the after effect of her injury months ago. And like I said before, head injuries are the most complicated cases so we needed to monitor her closely,” the physician replied. Not wanting him to argue with him, the emperor dismissed the physician before turning his attention towards Emery. Staring at her sleeping state, he ran his hand through his hair as frustration and anxiousness started to eat him up once again.  What if this time, she will remember her past? Will she leave if that happens? And will she still be the Emery he had been

Their time together was cut short when Castor came in a rush. Upon announcing his presence, his gaze settled on the emperor. “Your Imperial Highness, your advisers are waiting for you in the Levans Hall. Your presence is absolute or else, they will start the competition with the disqualification of Lady Emery,” he reported, making Emperor Claus stand from his seat in no time. He was indeed aware that his advisers were against his decision of postponing the competition once more because of the current condition of Emery. However, it seemed like the three advisers wanted to push through and take advantage of the situation to have Emery eliminated as soon as possible.  He kissed her on the forehead and said, “I want you to rest and wait for me. Don’

Chapter 38
Emery cupped Jadeite’s face and even with only the silver light coming from the full moon shining upon them, she could see her wounds. It was obvious that they tortured her, but there was no time for her to tend to them because she might just lose her only chance of letting her leave the empire. “Jadeite… You do not have to reveal yourself to them. Cover up and pretend to be just another person I sent to deliver an important message. After you have given the letter, then you are free to leave and do anything you want.” Her hands then fell on Jadeite’s scarred hands. “Please… This is my last request…” Wiping off her tears, Jadeite finally nodded. Rather than staying in prison and continually face the torture that the emperor was making her go through, she would choose to be of s

Chapter 39
After an hour in the gazebo, Emery and Emperor Claus finally decided to head back inside since it was already past midnight. As the emperor followed the lead of Emery, he could not help but think of the scars he saw on her back when he zipped up her dress. As far as he knew, she had a hard time in the palace of the Silex Kingdom after she was crowned queen. He was also aware of the fact that Emery was ignored and treated unfairly because the king favored his concubine over her.  “Did she get those scars when she was the queen? Was the unfair treatment included physical torture or something?” he thought.  But then again, there was one thing he promised to himself that he will never do once he makes Emery the empress. And that would be having a concubine.

Chapter 40
“On the forehead,” Sir Castor said while watching Emery nock an arrow. Seeing her proper posture and stance, Castor was quite puzzled since he did not teach her those when they first came to the barracks together. Still, he was convincing himself that it was probably because her body remembered the things she could do before she lost her memories. That was highly possible.  “Then, the forehead it is,” Emery mumbled. She closed one eye and aimed at the dummy’s forehead. Taking a controlled breath, she released the arrow. A small thunk followed after the arrow hit the dummy right on the head. However, she clicked her tongue since it did not land on the forehead, which only meant that Castor was the first one to ask. She faced him and shrugged
