Chapter 51
Gaius, the elderly man as well as the grandfather of Pearce, immediately stepped forward to stop what his grandson was doing. He did not like the way he was acting, especially raising a sword on a woman. “Do not be ridiculous!” Gaius yelled at him. “Put your sword back in its sheath and apologize to her.” Before Pearce could respond, Emery spoke. “Fine. I accept your challenge.” The crowd was surprised and a bit worried since they knew too well that Pearce was a great swordsman. Still, curiosity hung over them upon hearing from him that the woman right before them was no ordinary one.  “Emery, putting your life

Chapter 52
The following week, Emery spent her time overlooking everything to make sure that in each day that passed, progress was made and there would be little to no problem at all. During the first days, it was a rough start because they do not have enough people to work on the foundations of the two apartment buildings. And not to mention, food also became a problem that they needed to eat only twice in each day. But even then, it was not enough to stop Emery’s desire to finish everything. She and Pearce visited the barracks often to ask for Prince Cornelius’ help, however, the prince always refused with the reason that he would not benefit from it.“I will help you get back to the capital once the first stage of the competition is done,” Emery said, hoping that this time, she would be able to make him say yes. However, she received a glare from him.“You may be the favorite woman of the emperor, but you hold no power to meddle in the empire’s affairs. Don’t get ahead of yourself and just co

Emery’s immediate reaction was to grab her sword and get on her horse to head to the barracks. She could hear Vasmir calling out to her from behind but she just ignored him and whipped her horse. As she got closer, she could see the soldiers fighting against men whose faces were covered. Upon reaching the entrance that was blown up, she immediately dismounted and unsheathed her sword. She charged towards a man who was about to kill a soldier and with only one swing of her weapon, his sword along with his severed hand fell on the ground. “Where’s the prince?” she asked the soldier she just saved. “H-He’s in his quarters at the–” She did not let him finish and simply grabbed him on the collar, forcing him to stand.

When Emery and Vasmir returned to the town, it was no surprise that they were greeted by several other people who were awakened by the explosions at the barracks. Upon seeing Pearce, they were worried not only for his well-being but also of the outcome of what just happened. “W-What if the emperor would blame us?” one said, and just like a domino, her worries seemed to have passed along those around her. To control the situation, Emery called out their attention. “There is nothing to worry about,” she said. “I was at the scene when everything happened so I can stand as a witness to prove all your innocence. As for Pearce, I will look after him until he gets better.” She dismissed

Chapter 55
When the sun finally set in the west, Emery and Marianne were busy serving dinner to the wounded soldiers. As the former exited the tent, she was greeted by Gaius who was wearing a worried look that made him paler than usual.   “Lady Emery… Can I have some of your time?” he asked.   Nodding her head, the two of them headed to the elder’s private tent. Emery prepared some tea before sitting right across from him with the expectation that they would be talking about his grandson, Pearce.   “How is he doing?” Gaius asked with a low tone of voice.   “He regained consciousness a while ago and he is probably thinking of what to do next,” she replied. Seeing how nervous the elder was, she asked in return, “Do you know that

Chapter 56
A loud thud awakened Prince Cornelius from his short sleep. As struggled to sit up due to his wound on the chest and abdomen, he heard a woman cursing just behind him. And when he did manage to lean against the rough wall, he was immediately pissed off upon seeing the person he was stuck with in that dim lit dungeon. “Why do I have to tolerate seeing that annoying face of yours?” he grumbled, making Emery shoot him a glare. She looked at him from head to toe before she scoffed. “Says someone whose existence is hated.”  She clicked her tongue and even paired it with rolling of the eyes before getting back on her feet to check on the lock of the cell. There was no one guarding around so sh

“Damn it!” Emery cursed under her breath as she felt a stinging pain on the side of her arm after barely escaping from getting shot by an arrow. With her sprained ankle plus the heavy weight of the prince, Emery doubted that she would be able to run any longer. Thus, they hid behind another tree and upon making sure that Prince Cornelius was safe from being targeted, she grabbed several dead plants around and covered him with it. “I’d kill you if I get bitten by a snake,” he hissed at her. “You will die first before you could kill me, spoiled brat,” she sneered back. “Don’t make a single move or else… You’re done.”  Without saying anything

Emery scoffed at the question of the prince. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Your Highness,” she said. “I only saved you to avoid being accused of siding with the rebels.” “If you think that my life and testimony would save you from such trouble, then you are wrong,” he responded. “Scheming men in the court have their ways in making up stories.” After that brief conversation, the two went quiet and continued to find their way out of the forest. The sun rose in the east, made its way across the sky, and before they knew it, it was getting dark once more and yet, they were still stuck in there with no food and little water. Emery was getting worried at the current state of the prince since his fever was not going down at all.

Chapter 59
Her vision blurred due to the tears that were flooding her eyes and all she could hear was mixed voices calling out to her and the prince. She could not explain how happy she was to finally feel that safety, especially when Castor’s warm hand held hers. “S-Sir Castor…” she muttered almost breathlessly as she turned behind her. “Please, His Highness needs immediate medical attention. He… He had been having a fever and… And h-his wounds…” “We got it from here, Lady Emery,” the knight cut her off with a calm voice, tightening his grip on her still cold and shaky hand. Evander and the other soldiers with them managed to take the prince off of the  horse before Emery dismounted with the knight lending her

After their short stay at the inn, the group continued to travel back to the capital which took almost a half-day.
