Chapter 71
Lady Emily did not bother following Emery and just went about her way, looking for something she could get for the emperor as well. Though she was not that lucky to find anything else besides wild rabbits. After wandering about for half an hour, she stumbled upon Emperor Claus who immediately had a white-tailed deer behind him. “Where is Lady Emery?” he asked. “I thought you were with her.” “She dashed off and told me not to follow her,” she replied with a small smile before shrugging her shoulders. “I guess she did not want to share the lynx she is about to take down.” “Lynx?” “Yes, Your Imperial Highness. Though I doubt she would be able to catch it

Chapter 72
As the two continued to look for the end of the snow that fell off the mountain, the temperature seemed to be dropping in each hour that passed. It may not be that alarming yet but if they would still be stuck after the day ends, it would surely become a problem.  “When’s your wedding with Queen Emily?” Emery suddenly asked out of nowhere. “What? Wedding? Where did you hear that from?” he asked with his brows almost meeting at the center of his forehead. “From her obviously. And stop acting like you do not know about it if you do not want to get stabbed.” “I do not know why you believe her words that easily, but haven’t I told you before? You are the only on

Chapter 73
The next morning, King Lawson and Emery returned to the forest and were relieved when Castor’s group managed to create a pathway to the other side. Since they only had a few hours left before their designated date of return to the capital, all of them took one last visit to the frozen lake. But this time, King Lawson escorted Lady Emily while the emperor was together with Emery. At first glance, he immediately noticed that she was lost in deep thoughts. It was hard for him to tell what she was exactly thinking, but he just hoped that after that trip, she would still choose to stay with him. With them separated from the others, Emperor Claus thought that this was the perfect time to say the words he badly wanted Emery to hear. “Milady,’’ he called her attention, holding her hand and kissing the back of it. &ldq

Chapter 74
For the rest of the day, Emery stayed in her room and did not allow any visitors unless there was something urgent. She simply sat near the window where she could overlook the capital city—Elescaster. If indeed her wedding with the emperor would push through next week, she would not just rule over the city but the entirety of the Varmore Empire. Sitting on the throne alongside Emperor Claus would not just be the beginning of her revenge, but also the start of becoming a ruler once more. It would be a rough road and each day, her life would be at stake given that a lot of people—both in the court and the public—do not approve of her just yet. Touching the seemingly on flame ring given by the emperor, Emery heaved a sigh. She got up from her seat and instructed Marianne to send a letter to the prime minister as soon as possible. This decision of hers may put her current positi

Chapter 75
As if kneeling was not yet enough, Emery crawled towards the emperor’s feet with her clothes already disheveled and her eyes red from shedding tears. She clutched at his leg as she bowed her head. Her voice shook, filled with desperation that Emperor Claus never expected to see.  “Please, I’m begging you, Your Imperial Highness. I… I will do anything you ask without any c-complaints just please… S-Spare his life and let him leave the empire.” Her voice shook and on the verge of breaking, but her determination seemed more intact. However, the emperor did not budge—his face expressionless as his gaze still locked onto the king who was struggling to defend himself from the sixth gladiator he was fighting. Even with his seemingly heartless act of not giving Emery what she wanted, he could

Chapter 76
“That should be my line,” Emery hissed as she took a few steps closer to the king. As their gazes met, she pointed at him. “It was what you did that was unnecessary. Do you really think so little of the position you have as the ruler of the Silex Kingdom?” King Lawson gritted his teeth and balled his hands into fists to stop himself from exploding. Not only did his plan backfired big time and he lost his only chance to bring her back to the eastern continent, but what frustrated him the most was the fact Emery herself was the one who hindered him. “I already did more than enough for the kingdom and for the people. For once, I want to do something for you–” “I do not need you to do something for me! I can manage myself, I can su

Chapter 77
The next morning, King Lawson shifted on the bed and put his hand over the other side, thinking that Emery was still there. However, upon noticing that she was not next to him all along, he slowly opened his eyes and looked beside him. She was indeed gone. Getting up despite still feeling tired, he put on some clothes and went to the bathroom, hoping to see her, but still there was no sign of her.  “Did she just leave without saying a word?” he muttered to himself. But then, upon opening the door of the walk-in closet, he was more than relieved to see her there getting changed. “Oh… You’re already awake,” she commented, looking at him through the mirror. Noticing his disheveled state with his hair all over the place, she smirked. &ld

Chapter 78
Upon reaching the Euthoria Mansion, Marianne was the first one to greet Emery after being ignored by the other maidservants. The first thing that came to mind was because of what she did back at the stadium. If this was already the situation at the mansion alone, she could imagine what was going on outside the palace. Words must have already spread like wildfire and as disappointed as she was, she needed to rebuild her reputation, which could take a lot more effort and time than before.  “Where is His Imperial Highness?” Emery asked Marianne as they stepped into her room. “He is in a meeting at the Levans Court.” “The people are talking, aren’t they? About what happened at the gladiator stadium.”

Chapter 79
“Did I not make myself clear a while ago?” the emperor replied with an icy tone of voice. “I did not summon you yet so just wait.” After saying that, he turned his back on her and left. It was more than clear to Emery now that Emperor Claus cannot make her the empress. If that would be the case, then she will not just sit in her room and wait for Lady Serena to succeed in whatever she was planning. Though it was hard to tell if the emperor was actually starting to lose interest in her or not. Either way, Emery will do anything to get his attention. Hence, she decided to go to the quarters of the knights. Upon reaching the barracks, she was quite surprised to see all 12 of them gathered in one place. Unlike before, their quarters was booming with noise as they drank and played cards on the round table, which wa

Chapter 80
Emery went quiet for a while, not because of the unexpected questions she received from the emperor, but rather, it was because of the pain that was evident in his voice. She slowly removed the blanket over her and properly faced him. Standing right before him, she looked him in the eyes and for the first time, she saw tears falling down his cheeks. Somehow, there was a tug of pain in the pit of her stomach as she saw his forest green eyes seemingly filled with anguish. It never occurred to her that a time would come wherein she would see for herself that the emperor of a great empire would shed tears in front of her. There may be guilt brewing inside of her, however, she convinced herself that this was something inevitable in perfecting her plan. She had to make him believe that she was in love with him and she was not just after the throne next to him so when the time comes, he would protec
