FIONA FLOPPED ACROSS MARCO'S bed, deliciously exhausted. Who would have guessed that just driving an ATV would be such hard work? She grabbed her phone charger and held her breath.Marco had pulled her out at one point to hike up a bit of rock and she'd dropped her phone, face down, on the rock. The screen was busted, cracks spider-webbing across it like a work of art. She'd been able to use it, snapping a few pictures here and there of Marco and the view before her battery had died.Usually something like this would be the worst thing ever. After the day she'd had, the news about Scott notwithstanding, it'd been...amazing. The drive, the impossible rock crawls, it was the experience of a lifetime. The home screen popped up and, one after another, text messages popped in.Scott.All of them. She considered ignoring them, but curiosity got the better of her.Where's my phone charger?I need my battery pack charger back.Where the duck are you? I need the por

SCOTT'S GAZE SLID LEFT, then right. His car was the only one in the mall parking garage at this hour. This was bullshit. He'd been waiting for over an hour, but Lila hadn't shown. The bitch. If she didn't owe him money, he'd have been gone already. He needed that money in order to get his hands on Fiona. He had plans for her. Plans that were years in the making. The hum of an engine somewhere below signaled he wasn't alone. His luck, it was the mall rent-a-cop coming back to see if he was okay. Last time, Scott had told the guy he was waiting on a friend who worked in the mall. He doubted the lie would suffice this time.Headlights slashed across the concrete wall, and a silver sedan rounded the bend.If this wasn't Lila, he was gone. She was some sort of spook. Scott had worked with a number of companies. Espionage was big business for the right people. Wherever Good Global had found her, he hoped she was the only one of her kind. The silver sedan pulled up next to S

SCOTT HADN'T SLEPT SINCE his meet with Lila. He couldn't. And he was pretty sure he didn't know shit about what was going on, either. He'd been hired to do one job, get a drip leak going on the NueEnergy's servers. He knew Good Global wanted information, specifically about some new wind turbine idea that was being rolled out, but there was more to it. More he wasn't being told, and that was where he was getting screwed over.Another cup of coffee and he'd be good for at least half an hour.He took a quick walk around the one room shit-hole, then returned to his standing desk. He couldn't sleep standing, or at least that was the theory. What would have a spook like Lila completely change her strategy? Why would she want to get gear back they'd agreed could be turned off and abandoned?Because she thought someone would find it? That had to be it.Then who? And why?Brat had stopped hacking, as far as he'd been able to tell. Sure, she had higher than normal competency w

FIONA WAS...NUMB. THIS? The sort of thing happening around her now was the sort of thing she'd expected from her old life. Now, as Fiona, she shouldn't be involved in a...a...what was this? A crime? A theft? She needed to call the Marshall assigned to her case. No, this wasn't directly related, but there was a crime going on, and she was involved against her will. If it went public and people started snapping pictures things could go bad. Fast. She'd always been careful about avoiding photographs that would end up on-line. Hell, she didn't even use an avatar for her social media. Just a random stock photo silhouette of a woman that might be her. If NueEnergy was involved in something that broke laws, then her Marshall should be able to handle it. That made sense. Didn't it?She paced back and forth, along two sides of the house. How had she not seen this coming?Scott had played her. She'd known something was off, that they weren't quite right for each other, but she was so lon

FIONA STARED STRAIGHT AHEAD, spine rigid. The last thing she wanted to do was go back to Denver, and yet...here they were. On the road again, Ghost driving ahead of them.It was the right thing to do, morally speaking, and if she weren't in danger, there would be no question about what she should do. But...she'd spent her life running and hiding that it'd become second nature, and she didn't like that either. She had to find some way to ease her mind. She trusted the US Marshalls, or had. This latest case agent left her...uneasy. He wouldn't put her in danger, would he?It was imperative that she keep the faith. Believe in the Marshalls, and stick to their plan. Business as usual. Her confidence in the Marshalls was firm where her case was concerned. They all wanted the same things. But when it came to her current case agent, she wasn't quite as certain he understood her or what was going on. Was she willing to split? Go it alone?Marco would leave her at some point. Maybe
