SENATOR JOE NEILSON PACED his hotel room. He hadn't let go of the drone photograph since it had passed into his possession.Jules was alive. For the last four, almost five, years his sister's status as a prisoner had fluctuated. At times someone might admit she was captured. Others, they didn't know who she was. Every now and then someone had heard about her through someone else.Despite Joe's efforts to push for her return he'd run up against a brick wall with the Secretary of State's office through two administrations. Everyone agreed that it was too risky to try and bring her home when she'd gotten herself into this mess. But it was perfectly acceptable to bomb the country and rattle swords?Joe stared out at the city of Seattle. He'd gone into politics because he didn't trust anyone else to do the job right. His platform was one of honesty to the point that he'd hurt his ratings more than a few times by speaking his truth. Ethics were important to him. Without a strong,

RYAN KNOCKED ON HIS boss' door."You wanted to see me, Zain?" He'd almost made it to the elevator before the office manager called him back."Yes. Sit." Zain glanced up from his computer. His hair was longer and the stubble on his chin was more of a beard. "Today's Tuesday, right?""It has been all day, yeah. Working a little too much lately?" Ryan sank into the guest chair."Trying to get ahead so I can go on this vacation." Zain grimaced."Wow, has hell frozen over?""No." Zain's terse replies didn't invite further questioning. If anyone deserved a vacation, it was Zain. He'd developed the Seattle branch of the company and fostered the growth of the teams, but it came with a heavy price. Zain worked twice as hard as any of them and he was still a newlywed. His wife was sweet and terribly understanding, but everyone had their limits. Hell, Ryan wanted out of here so he could go home and maybe surprise Carson."I think I know what your answer will be, but I still need t

KAWA LAID HIS HAND against his chest. The pressure made it hard to breathe. Impossible to sleep. His stomach was in knots. If he didn't find the broker soon, it would be Kawa's neck on the line. He'd paid money he couldn't afford to an airport security officer who told him that Ben Grewing had entered the airport at seven last Saturday. He hadn't been seen since. There was no record of him on a flight, but Kawa knew first hand that didn't mean anything. He was traveling using Israeli passports after all.Kawa paced the hotel room. He'd moved their people to some seedy joint on the outskirts of town to save money, but they were drawing attention. They needed to move somewhere else. The Senator was on the hook. All they needed now was the money. Either Kawa would outright buy Jules Neilson or he'd pay mercenaries to go across the border and rescue her. But the money was tied up in some kind of federal investigation. Kawa had seen the men in blue coats with FBI emblazoned across t

CARSON STAGGERED AWAY FROM where Alec held the line with Ryan. He'd always been gentle and playful with her. She'd forgotten that under the surface he was a dangerous man. And now she'd made him angry.Vito grabbed Ryan by the arm and hauled him off Alec. It didn't matter that he hadn't touched her. It was the way he looked at her."You don't want to go there, man," Alec said."I want to look in her eyes and hear her say it," Ryan snarled."You sure that's all you were going to do." Alec held his hands up."You think I'd-?" Ryan's mouth gaped open, and he finally looked away from Carson."You're pretty pissed off right now. Why don't you walk it off?"Ryan glanced at Carson. She felt that look more than any kind of physical touch. It went deeper, to her heart. She'd known this was coming, but she wasn't ready for it.Ryan turned toward the French doors leading into the sun room."Ryan? Ryan, can we talk, please?" Carson didn't know what she'd say to him, but anythin

CARSON STUMBLED OUT OF the elevator. Ben had his hand in her hair, bending her head backward."Unlock your door," he said.Shit."My keys-they're still in my car." Carson braced her hand against the wall."Fucking hell." Ben shoved her face first into the doorframe.Pain blossomed along her brow and radiated down her neck."Stand there. If you run, I'll shoot. If someone comes out here and you scream for help, I'll shoot them. Got it?"Carson nodded. She could only assume that Ben would do it. The kind of people he worked with, the things he did, he probably shot people all the time. She wouldn't be his first, and he wouldn't even blink if she died. She closed her eyes and sucked down a deep breath.Everything shook. Her legs were weak; her knees close to giving out.Ben pulled something out of his pocket and slid it into the lock on her door. This was how he'd gotten into her apartment and used her laptop to move his money. The yogurt containers. Her laptop not being where
