Chapter 11
Chad had a smirk on his face as he stared coldly at Jade. Jade did not back down and had a nonchalant look. “Chad, leave him alone. He’s not bugging me.” I touched his arm, and he peeled his eyes from Jade and looked at me. He balanced his weight rudely on Jade’s desk with his hands. “Are you sure, my love?” I swallowed. “Yes, I’m sure, Chad. Now, leave him alone. Please.” I begged him with pleading eyes, and I could tell from the expression on his face that he was looking for trouble. “Okay.” He smiled brightly. “Anything for my baby.” He took his hands from Jade’s desk. “Come with me, let’s go sit in the back.” He extended his hand to me. I could feel Jade’s eyes on me. And Chad was waiting for a response from me. “Why are you hesitating?” He continued. “So you want to take a break from me and want space, but you simultaneously want to sit next to this creep?”“Watch your language,” Jade said between his teeth. “Or what?” Chad scoffed the words out. He looked back at me. “Kata

Chad looked upset as he sat in his seat. “I swear if I knew that that guy worked here, I wouldn't have brought you here.” He scoffed. “How did he even get a job at such a fine establishment? Did he lie on his resume? I’m sure he did.” “Why do you hate him so much? Jade.” I asked as I played with the tips of my hair. “Stop it. You know, Katara. The guy and I were best friends since kindergarten and then the first day of high school, he just stopped talking to me out of the blue. When I asked him why he did that, he only ignored me.” Chad explained.“Oh.” My voice was breathy. “Well, that’s confusing.”“Hell, yeah. So I started working out and soon I became one of the most popular guys at school. And I made sure to treat him like sh*t.” He rocked his jaw. “Maybe he was going through something. Not everybody likes to talk about their personal problems.” I reached for one of the menus that were on the table. Where we were sitting was amazing, it allowed us to have a great view of the i

Earn it? Was Jade being serious? Was he being serious about the fact that I had to earn information from him? I guess he did have a point though. It was something very personal to him; so personal that he did not even tell Chad who he was best friends with when they were younger, so I guess it was fair. Also, earning the story might be another way of him saying that he wanted to gain my trust first. And I did not blame him. I was in the body of a bitter and very mean person; someone who had treated him like crap for a very long time. He had every right to be skeptical. It was not like I could tell him that I was not really Katara and was actually a dead girl that had reincarnated into her body as a gift from the Moon goddess. That was way too much information. And definitely not the right time. Jade snapped his fingers and I was pulled out of my thoughts. “What were you thinking about?” He chuckled lowly. “Look, what I mean by earning the story is that I don’t really know if you we

Chapter 14
The sun had disappeared and the full moon sat up in the sky. A few birds flew away in the distance and thin clouds danced slowly past the moon. The sounds of the waves crashing were much more intense and louder now. But it was soothing to listen to. The air was pregnant with the smell of salt and the sand gave way under the weight of Jade and me. We did not bring a blanket or anything with us so we were sitting on the sand underneath an old beach umbrella that must have been there for months. “Are you cold?” Jade glanced at me. He did not wait for me to reply, he took off his leather jacket and handed it to me. “Here. This might help.” I scoffed lightly as I accepted it from him. As I wore his jacket, my heart melted. His cologne was baked into it. I could not believe that I was wearing his clothing. “Thanks.” I flashed him a warm smile. “This beach was once run by my mom and me,” Jade began, and I listened intently. “It was so popular and was the talk of the town. We were truly

“Yeah. Sh*t.” He breathed out a short sigh as we approached his motorcycle. “And it was not only my mother that got sick. Almost everyone on that block did; everyone except me.”“When Chad’s parents were confronted, they denied the allegations and lawyered up. We had no chance against them. They were wealthy and we did not have a lot. So of course, they ended up winning the case.” Jade continued. I could sense the anger and pain in his voice. “That’s terrible.” I was starting to understand it all. Chad did not tell me the whole truth, he intentionally left a whole lot of details out because he knew that it would have made him look bad. “Yeah,” He breathed out the word as he collected the helmets from the arm of the motorcycle. He handed me mine and proceeded to put his over his head. “I know that the actions of Chad’s parents do not speak for him. I’m not stupid.”“But he sure as hell showed that he did not give a damn about me and my mom when I begged him for him to ask his parents

I was only in my bra and panties because I had removed my clothes with the intent of taking a shower. But with the unexpected guest in my room, taking a shower was now the last thing on my mind. I had other crucial things to attend to. Like, trying to get Chad to calm down before he did something that both of us would regret in the morning. The thin curtains at the window fluttered due to the gentle and cool breeze coming in. The light from the full moon was evident when one looked outside from the view of the window.I was deeply screwed, and not even in a fun way. From the line of Chad’s questioning, it felt like he had found out my secret; that he had figured out who I truly was. That was not what I needed right now. I still had to get my mom to believe that I had actually reincarnated. I still had to come up with a plan with her on how to exact our revenge for our fallen pack. I still had to see where life was going to take me concerning a certain green-eyed boy by the name of

It was the next morning. The sun was up and the birds were chirping. Beams of light shone through my window and flashed on my face, causing me to squint my eyes before finally using my hand as a shade. I had a dull headache that made me groan as I dragged my body from the unmade bed. My eyes were still groggy from sleep but the alarm clock kept going off loudly and I had to shut it up. The annoying thing about it was that instead of it being right next to the bed where I could reach and shut it off, it was at the work desk in the right corner of the room. The sound was loud and obnoxious. But it did a great job of waking me up. Because it was not close to the bed, I could not snooze it whenever I wanted; I had to literally wake up to do that. And by waking up physically to turn it off, it was doing its job. Because once I’m out of bed, it’s harder for me to find sleep again easily. So in a way, as annoying as it was, it was productive. When I reached the alarm clock, I turned it

Chapter 18
The air smelt sour and the coldness was evident. As I walked deeper into the dungeon and past the prisoners, I noticed that most of them were asleep. The few that were awake stared at me blankly as I walked by. I was not there for any one of them. I was only there for a single person, and that was my real mom, Luna Alexa. When I reached her cell, I saw that she was humming a familiar tone. A tone that made me emotional. In my past life, she used to hum that tone all the time when she would give me my meds. It was soothing and reminded me that I was not alone. When she noticed my presence, she stopped humming and stared at me. “What do you want, little girl?” Her voice was gritty. “Have you come to wave your flag of victory in my face?” She was wearing the same dress when I last saw her. “No.” I shook my head slowly and walked closer to the cell. My heart was thumping in my chest; not because of fear but because I was overwhelmed with memories of her and me from my past life. “I c

Nervousness gnawed on my bones as I tried to find out what to say to the betas. They did not have looks of suspicions though, only ones of curiosity. “She probably went down there to take some selfies with the prisoners,” The other beta with blonde-curly hair guessed. He had a round baby face and his eyes were the same color as mine: ocean blue. From how he looked at me, I could tell that he either really respected me or had a crush on me. The beta that spoke first, replied, “Now, why would she be doing that? Are you that dumb?” He had a rough but attractive look. The other beta that had not spoken had short hair and looked bored. He scoffed lowly and then joined the conversation. “She’s right here, we can just ask her what she was doing down there.” He shrugged. They all looked at me, waiting for me to explain myself. I smiled nervously and then exhaled deeply. “Alright. You guys caught me.” I chuckled lowly. “Your friend was right, but he was off a bit. I was taking pictures of

Chapter 20
As I was submerged, a feeling of calm and serenity took over me, helping me relax. It was like I got lighter and could move my body easily. My eyes were closed and I held my breath as I still lingered under the water. It was like I was in another world. All was quiet and peaceful. I did not know how to swim so it surprised me how calm and collected I was. But then it hit me, I was reminded that I was in Katara’s body. I had some of her memories, even the muscle ones. So I somehow knew how to swim even though the real me had never learned. I finally opened my eyes and then I came up for air. As soon as my head was out of the water, I took in a deep breath, trying to fill my lungs quickly with the air they were deprived of when I was under the water. I used my right hand to push my wet hair in a backward motion out of my face before letting out a small happy laugh. I felt great! I continued to enjoy myself swimming from one end of the pool to the other until a beta came in my dire
