(Sammy POV)“Here… keep the change,” I muttered, handing the driver my fare. I stepped out, slammed the taxi door, and exhaled a long, shaky breath. My head felt heavy, throbbing in time with my pulse. As the taxi pulled away, I turned toward the small front gate; it looked a little blurry, the edges softening into the dark night. Streetlights illuminated the pavement, competing with the giant, overly bright bulb my mom had installed on the porch to make the house look "fancy."I shook my head, shoving my mom’s bizarre theories aside, and dragged my exhausted body toward the entrance.
