41: A Day With Kids
Jillie          Unpacking was simply torture. I had been up since eight this morning, doing nothing but unpacking. I had to find some way to fill my morning, especially with Jarren gone. Whatever he had to take care of yesterday was being done today because we went to check on Alyx yesterday. Jarren had said he’d have someone come over and help me unpack, but I wanted to do it myself. It was another one of those moments.            Making my way downstairs, I walked into the kitchen before rummaging through the refrigerator. I was starving and decided to make some pasta. Closing the fridge, I filled a small pot with water and set it on the stove. As the water heated up, I took a package of pasta from the pantry before grabbing a can of cream of chicken.

42: Alyx & Reyna
Jillie  I pulled up at Alyx’s house about twenty minutes later. I knocked on the door before walking inside. She was sitting on the couch watching TV with Reyna lying in her bassinet. I walked over and sat beside her.“I was starting to wonder if you had forgotten about me,” Alyx stated, nudging me.“Well, the thought of ditching you did cross my mind,” I responded with a smirk. Alyx rolled her eyes. “I went to the orphanage today.” I then responded. She smiled. “Did you have fun?”“I did. The kids are great.” She nodded, turning back towards the TV. “Where is Mason?”“He’s with your husband somewhere.”“Well, that’s never a sign of anything good. They’re probably doing something they have no business doing.”“Most likely,” Alyx responded. “But enough about them. Tell me

43: Backup Has Arrived
Jarren          I watched as Mason paced the floor. He was losing his mind over something I had to tell him. For some reason, he was being impatient. All he had to do was wait another few minutes until Xander and Garret showed up. I wanted to laugh, but somehow I knew that wouldn’t help – what I’m assuming was - his nervousness. A few minutes later, both Garret and Xander walked into the room.“Okay, tell me now,” Mason stated when everyone was seated.I all but laughed. “Calm down, Mason. You act like I’m about to tell you I’m breaking our alliance or something.” He gave me a look that said that was precisely what he was thinking. “Seriously,

44: How Do I Tell Her
Jarren   “Mom, what are you doing here?” My mother asked, standing. “I came to check on my grandson and see what this nonsense I heard was all about.” My mother shot me a look, and I smiled at her innocently. “Mom, he doesn’t want to take the throne in the amount of time we agreed upon.” Nunny nodded. “I don’t blame him. He has other responsibilities to tend to now. Those are more important than taking the throne. Especially since you and Dominic can both rule for a few more years.” “But mother-“ “I’m done talking about it, Phoenix. If your husband is alright with it, there is nothing else to discuss. Jarren will take the throne the summer after the child’s fifth birthday.” Nunny sta

45: Housewarming
Jarren “People will start showing up any minute, and the two of you are goofing around,” Jillie stated, crossing her arms over her chest as she sent Xander and me a death glare.“Calm down, Jillie. Most of the food is already done and is in the oven to keep warm,” Xander responded.Jillie glared at him, and Xander flinched back slightly. “Just get this done.” With that, she turned and stomped back into the house.“Your wife is scary,” Xander stated, causing me to laugh.“It’s just her hormones. I usually agree and let her rant. It’s easier than trying to argue with her.”“I

46: An Unwelcomed Guest
Jarren    After the first couple of hands, the poker game became too competitive. Carson and Xander were taking it to a level it didn’t have to be on, but you couldn’t tell them that. They were both sore losers. By the fifth hand, I decided to sit out and watch. However, I didn’t see it ending well with those two.            My grandfather pulled me aside as the others were still playing. I already knew what the conversation was about.“You’re grandmother tells me that we have a slight problem with Jillie’s pregnancy.” He kept his voice low. So low that even if som

47: Time and Space
Jillie          I led Aaden into the living room and sat on the couch. He sat at the other end and stared at the blank TV screen. I bit my lip, not sure exactly where to start. There was so much we needed to talk about. There was so much that we needed to discuss, but at this moment, I didn’t know how to go about doing that. My mind was on the fact that Jarren would most likely kill me for inviting Aaden over.            We sat in complete silence for a moment. He was staring off into space, and I was trying to come up with something to say to start the conversation. This was proving to be more complicated than I initially thought. I sighed and began to fumble with my fingers.            A few months ago, I would have been

48: First Real Marriage Fight
JIllie I blinked a few times, and my vision cleared. I stared at the TV blankly, trying to control the anger, hurt, and betrayal that had suddenly burst in me. I took a few deep breaths before heading out into the backyard. I smiled for everyone, but I was now thoroughly upset. I could understand him not wanting Aaden at the wedding, but he could have talked to me about it instead of saying nothing and pretending he’d sent all the invitations.         Jarren was in the corner talking to Garret, and I wanted to go over there and demand to know why he hadn’t sent Aaden his invitation, but I wasn’t about to cause a scene in front of everyone. Instead, I walked over to him and waited for Garret to finish his sentence.“Where are your keys?” I inquired. Jarren mere

49: Pregnancy Announcement
Jillie                It’s been a week, and Jarren’s still mad at me. This was a first. I wasn’t particularly mad at him anymore, but I wasn’t about to let him know. If he was mad, then I would still at least act mad. As childish as that may be, it was no more childish than him giving me the silent treatment. If lucky, he’d say ten words to me in a day. At this point, I was starting not to care. My hormones were going into overdrive, and I was more focused on not murdering anyone who made me mad than worrying about his ridiculousness.              I had just finished getting dressed and slipped on my shoes when he entered the room. Just as I knew he would, he ignored me and went straight to the closet. I rolled my eyes before heading out of the bedroom and down the stairs. I went into the kitchen and fixed myself a bagel with cream chee

Chapter 50: Unlimited Kisses
Jillie My mom stared at me for a long time, and I began to fidget with my fingers. A nervous tick that I didn’t seem to be able to grow out of. I bit my bottom lip as she sighed and sat back in her seat.“I know.” She finally spoke.I was speechless for a moment. What was I supposed to say to that? “You knew?” I finally managed to get out. “Well, I suspected. My father was part vampire. I would like to think I know them when I see them.”“Wait. You knew Granddad was a Dhampir?”“Where do you think my love of fantasy comes from?”               I pinched my arm as hard as I dared, and it hurt, which confirmed that this was not a dream. I blinked a few times, wondering if I had simply thought about telling my mother Jarren was a vampire and this was the vision of what would happen, but when nothing changed,
