CHAPTER 21: Commotion at the airport.
An inaudible announcement was made by the pilot. Sarah looked around and found that the people around her seemed to be complaining about something. She looked up to a flight attendant.“Hi, what's going on?” she asked worriedly.“Nothing ma’am, please relax and fasten your seatbelt to prepare for landing.” The young flight attendant said politely.“Landing? How are we landing? We just took off like 2 minutes ago.” She asked. The air hostess kept trying to fit her seat belt for her. Something felt wrong, terribly wrong.“We are returning to port ma’am, we just got news of a possible flash storm.” She lied through her teeth. The skies were blue with not a cloud in sight. But she wasn’t a meteorology expert, so what did she know? Whether the flight attendant was lying to her or the flight attendant herself had been lied to, Sarah could tell.A thought flashed through her head. What if this was Aldo’s doing? She quickly brushed it off though. It’s not like Aldo could cause a thunderstorm,

The kidnapper.
In a dimly lit room lies a beautiful woman. Her dark skin glowed bright through the dull light. How could someone look so good when they sleep? Given the fact that she had been abducted, she was rather relaxed. One would think she was just taking a nap in her own house. She looked so peaceful that her captor felt a flutter in his heart and chose not to interrupt her sound slumber. As Sarah slowly regained consciousness, her surroundings appeared unfamiliar and disorienting. Panic surged through her veins as the memories of her abduction at the airport flooded back into her mind. Fear gripped her heart, urging her to assess her situation and find a way to escape. She cautiously surveyed the room, her eyes darting around, searching for any clues or means of escape. The walls were bare, devoid of any personal touch, and the only door stood as a formidable barrier to the outside world. A surge of desperation overcame her, and she banged on the door, hoping to attract attention and secure

CHAPTER 23: A difficult dinner.
"Let me go, Aldo," Sarah pleaded, her voice shaking with the weight of her emotions. "I can't stay here, I can't be a part of this world."“Stop saying that!” he growled, causing her to flinch as he glared daggers at her. They had just finished dinner and it was going quite well. Why did she have to talk about leaving and ruining the mood again? He exhaled deeply and looked away. It would do no good to make her fear him more than she already did.“It was very selfish of you to hide that from me while being all sweet and making me like you. You clearly don’t know anything about me. Which is fine, if you would just let me go.” she rambled on, her teary eyes unable to make contact with his burning gaze. Her body trembled slightly as she uttered the words that she knew could end her. Her hands under the table got hold of the hem of her skirt and squeezed so tight, her knuckles hurt.“You think I’m stoked that you found out like this?” he softened his tone and held her hand. “Why do you th

'When you are calm.'
The next few days at the mansion were rather quiet. Sarah neither said a word, nor went out of the bedroom. She took a lot of time reflecting on the events that had brought her life to the position that it was currently. He claimed that he wasn’t holding her hostage and that she could go out anytime, but the moment she stepped out of the room there were people following her around. He always seemed to be there. She wondered if he even had a job with all the free time he seemed to have available. When Aldo wasn’t with her, there would be a maid or bodyguard keeping close watch. These days she can’t even take her bath alone. All this surveillance and she hadn’t even left the room. All her meals were served to her inside.Aldo encouraged her to go to dinner but she refused to talk to him. She didn’t complain, understanding that doing so could give him the impression that she was trying to leave again and keep him well on guard. Not that she planned to stay, just that she needed to make s

Chapter 25: The gun incident.
“Was it you? The guys who put a cloth over my nose. Did you send them?” Sarah finally gathered the courage to ask once he had finished eating. After a thoughtful silence, he replied, “Yes.”“I guess the weather worked in your favor then. Why is my luck so down? Can’t even runaway in peace.” she murmured. He said nothing in reply. Instead, he picked up the dishes, walked over to the sink and began washing them.“Why did you bring me back Aldo? It’s not like I stole from you. Can’t you just let me go?” she asked rather cautiously.“I can’t bear to let you go like that, ca…” just as he was about to give her a response he heard the sound of a gun being adjusted. He spun to find her pointing it at him.“Tell them to let me out, Aldo.” She said resolutely.“Calm down, cara. You’ve never fired a gun before. Don’t be like this. Give it to me.” He said, approaching with no caution whatsoever. Like he wasn’t afraid. Like she didn’t have a gun in her hands.Even Sarah started to doubt the credib

CHAPTER 26: The starvation stunt.
The whole gun incident was a rather humbling experience for Sarah. She learnt that she lacked the will to hurt Aldo. And the fact that at that moment he still managed to comfort her weighed on her heart. She wasn’t stupid, just torn. Torn between what her heart wanted and what she knew was right. She should have fired the gun. She should not have glanced at him a second time. Although she knew what type of person Aldo Accardi was, she kept making excuses for him in her heart. The sun rose to its glorious shine over the Accardi mansion. The chef in the kitchen worked extra hard to have breakfast ready on time. Old Maria had been watching each movement closely. Like a guard dog. She was clearly in a bad mood. Her eagerness to meet Aldo’s woman and have him wedded was cut off brutally. She knew it from the moment she saw Marco drive the unconscious young lady into the mansion at dusk. It was like reliving the exact same scene from Aldo’s parents' meeting. Many a time she had prayed th

The restaurant
ALDO walked into the bedroom to find Sarah lying in bed. Staring listlessly at the ceiling. With an inaudible sigh, he calmed himself down as he decided how to deal with the little woman in his bed. “Hey there, sleeping beauty.” he said in a low husky voice as he stalked towards her. “I’ve thought about it.” She said coldly, in a voice so low and strained, it made his heart ache. “About what love?” he asked, battling the urge to give in to her every whim. “A good reason. It’s the third day, today. I have a reason.” He took a minute to understand her words but it soon became clear to him what she was talking about. “OK, then why don’t you tell me about it over dinner? Do you want to go out? There is this beautiful restaurant by the lake. You’ll love it.” She didn’t reply. Not because she didn’t want to go out, but because she didn’t want to give him a chance. At this point, one might think, ‘Wouldn’t it be better to go out and find a chance to escape?’ but Sarah knew bette

To her surprise, she found it to be one of her favorite traditional dishes. She looked up at him with a surprised expression, his usually expressionless face revealed a doting smile as he looked back at her. "I hope you enjoy the Cameroonian cuisine," Aldo said with a grin, clearly pleased by her reaction.Sarah's lips curled into a smile as she realized the significance of the evening. "You are kidding, right? These are my favorite."Aldo nodded, his eyes holding a warmth that reached deep within her. "I know. You did mention that in a couple of interviews, yes. I thought it would be nice to bring you here."Her heart swelled with gratitude. "Aldo, this is incredible. Thank you."As she took her first bite of Eru, memories of her family and gatherings around the dinner table flooded her mind. The flavors were a journey back to her childhood, each mouthful reminiscent of the love and comfort she had always felt at home. Ndolé followed, each bite a testament to the richness of Camero

The next few days at the mansion were relatively quiet. Sarah seemed to be better behaved than before and wasn’t actively throwing tantrums. The silent treatment had become much worse, however. Her daily routine was rather simple. Wake up, eat, take a stroll, shower, and sleep. Aldo was present at every meal, yet they didn’t say as much as one word to each other. For the most part, Aldo was out working. He would go to town and come back very late but he wouldn’t sleep out. His presence didn’t really matter to her. She had been searching for routines, patterns in his behavior. Every day on her little promenade, she was actually looking around for exits and trying to find out when it would be safest to make a run for it. Soon enough, she had gathered enough information about the security system to make a move. The mansion stood cloaked in shadows as Sarah quietly made her way through the corridors, her heart racing with a mix of fear and determination. This time, howev

Gunshot
The early morning sunlight filtered through the windows of Aldo's bedroom, casting a soft glow on the disarray within. He stirred, slowly emerging from the embrace of sleep, only to be met with a surge of panic that jolted him awake. His heart raced as the memories of the previous night came flooding back, crashing into his consciousness like a tidal wave.Desperation gnawed at his chest as he prayed that it had all been a terrible dream—a drunken nightmare. But the truth hung heavy in the air, and he couldn't escape the reality of his actions. He had let Sarah go. Aldo swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood, his movements fueled by a mix of anger, worry, and self-reproach. He needed to find her, to make compensation for the impulsive decision he had made.Raging out of his bedroom, he began his search throughout the mansion, his footsteps heavy and purposeful. His gaze swept over the room, his frustration mounting as he found no trace of her. Every single step was drivin
