Where is your birth certificate?
Back in Neil’s study, once everyone finished mucking around and settled down, Eric looked at his brother who was purposefully stalling time with a helpless expression. “What did you find out?” “No relation” Chris pursed his lips as he extended the test results towards Eric. “What if the sample we took didn’t belong to Eva?” Eric asked after a while breaking the ghostly silence that filled the room. “Yeah” Diana nodded “Someone else could have used the hairbrush and the hair we pulled out might have been someone else’s.” “How many hair strands do you need for a retest?” Night Wing walked out from the shadows. “Even half a strand will do.” Neil waved his hand and looked despondently at Night Wing however he looked at he had received a thunderstroke as he screamed “W…T…F…” Everyone followed his gaze as they heard the roar and his expression that seemed like he had been struck by thunder. “These are not contaminated. They were pulled out of her head last night and bagged.” Night Wi

Because I love you.
2 days passed in the blink of an eye; The Walters except for Eva boarded their private plane to fly back to their homeland. Chris and his group also departed the same day; however, they travelled chartering Neil’s flight to avoid prying eyes. The arrangement was for the Walters to stay at their ancestral home with Grandpa and Grandma Walter while Chris and his group stayed at the hotel. Emile and Abbey were planning to stay at the Burke residence after the next day till the ceremony and then they were planning to fly out to Paris the same day. Emile wondered whether she should let Grandpa Holston know for a long time and still couldn’t make up her mind. “What’s wrong?” Chris smoothed her knitted brows; He had noted that she was frowning ever since they boarded the flight and had still not relaxed even after reaching the hotel. He didn’t want to intrude on her privacy, but he couldn’t help himself when he saw that she was still troubled. “I….” Emile bit her lips with a constipated e

We have a child marriage agreement
“Why is grandpa grumpy?” Carson, the youngest son of Micheal, Adam’s stepbrother asked once only the younger generation was left in the main hall. He wasn’t aware of the drama that had unfolded before his arrival. “Chris wants to marry the abandoned lady of the Burke house.” Vanessa sat lazily on the lounge admiring her nails. “Mind your language.” Chris narrowed his eyes while Sheryl feigned ignorance and opened her eyes wide in shock. “Chris… Chris…” Sheryl extended her hand to pull Chris’s hand in a spoiled child act but was left hanging her hand in air as Chris side-stepped without giving her a chance. She adjusted her awkwardness gracefully as she asked “Chris, what is Vanessa talking about? How come I didn’t know?” “If you need to know what Vanessa said, ask her. I am not her mouthpiece.” Chris didn’t give her any face as he responded coldly. He continued with a chill in his voice that scared even his own sisters “Who are you that I need to update you regarding my life decisi

Who's betrothed to whom?
Everyone dispersed to their rooms shortly after the elders left. The east wing of the house was occupied by Micheal’s family, the west wing reserved for Dorothy’s family, north wing was reserved for Adam’s family and south wing for Rebecca’s family. In the middle of the night, a dark slender figure sneaked out from the main building and walked straight to the north wing. The figure paused for a minute as though making sense of the layout of the building and then stealthy walked over to the last room at the end of the corridor. The figure opened the door and walked in without the slightest hint of hesitation. The muffled sound of a suppressed groan could be heard in the silence of the night; through the moonlight drifting into the room, one could be an outline of a restless man lying on the large mahogany bed. The slender figure got on the bed and hugged the man without a shred of reservation and whispered gently “Let me help you. Let me be your antidote.” The man seemed to be confli

You will regret this.
“GET OUT….GET OUT… ALL OF YOU….” Silas roared furiously glaring at his half cousins. “Isn’t this my room?” Chris quirked his eyebrow keeping his cool “Shouldn’t you be the one to leave?” Silas glared at Chris without responding. ‘How could he be bold enough to leave the room without a single strand of cloth on?’ Sheryl stared pitifully at Chris, her eyes misted and lips quivering, hoping to catch his attention and justify herself. Wanting to wash herself clean of the filth she has been smeared with, but he didn’t even give her a side glance. “Why are you glaring at me?” Chris taunted “Have you suddenly realized that I am much handsomer than you?” “You … get out!” Silas gritted his teeth. He would be a fool not to know that he had been played by his half-cousins. He would settle this account slowly; right now, all he wanted to do was get himself dressed and out of this room. “This is my room. Why should I get out?” Chris shrugged indifferently and pretended to head to the sofa o

I will guard your treasure with my life, to the end of my life.
“Something on your mind?” Adrian raised his eyebrows eyeing the pensive look on Chris’s face. “Do we have a mole in our midst?” Chris pursed his lips as he weighed his words. “Huh?” Not just Neil and Adrian, even Night Wing and Night Rider were taken back. “Sheryl seems to be well abreast of my whereabouts.” Chris sat back twisting his lips; he narrowed his eyes as he sifted through the people around him since he started on this trip chasing Emile. “What makes you say that?” Adrian tapped the armrest as he knitted his brows. “During the dinner, she asked me about my trip to Mauritius and whether I would recommend the place?” Chris rolled his eyes “Apparently she wanted to get a review before planning her trip.” No one spoke. Chris continued after a few minutes “She knew the exact trajectory of our trip thus far.” “That’s scary.” Neil twitched with a disgusted expression “Considering she was never on our radar.” “Oh, she was” Night Wing nodded with a disdainful smirk “Just wasn’

My grandson, I decide who he marries.
“Stop right there….” Grandpa Walter’s thunderous roar cut through the blissful atmosphere interrupting Adrian’s introduction. Adrian paused, turning to look at Chris; Chris gestured him to stand down. He wanted to see how low his grandpa could stoop. He wanted to be able to give up on the last straw of familial entanglement. He squeezed Emile’s hand and gave her a comforting look. “Senior Mr Walter, what’s the problem?” One of the reporters that he brought along with him asked seeing that no one took his bait and didn’t respond to his previous outburst. “I don’t approve of this wedding.” “This is a free society; the groom and bride are both of the legal age where the law permits them to exercise free will.” One of the guests spoke out in justice. “My grandson, I decide who he marries.” Adam was about to retort when he was stopped by Elizabeth who gestured him to look over to Chris. Chris shook his head restraining him from speaking. “He is betrothed to wed my partner’s granddaug

"Why would I want to do something senseless?" Superintendent Registrar’s lips curled in ridicule “Why would I want to ask for objection of a registered union?” “Regis… Registered????” Grandpa Walter stuttered as he stepped back; he raised his head to level gaze with the Superintendent Registrar and asked in a voice that lost all its vigour “Registered Union?” “Looks like Senior Mr Walter is not very popular at home.” Superintendent Registrar spoke lightly as he sat down calmly not bothering with Senior Mr Walter anymore. Although he didn’t agree with the old man’s judgement and methods, he still felt sorry for the man who stood in front of everyone like a clown. Anyone with a little bit of sense would know who the better choice between Miss Burke and Miss Shelby was. Who is the culprit?
Going back in time, to when Chris had finished answering the call with Eric 2 days ago- “What’s wrong?” Emile walked up to Chris and hugged him as she saw his taut expression once he came back after the call. She had noticed that he had stayed outside for a while even after he finished the call. “Would you want to marry me regardless of our family’s acceptance?” “Yes” “Then, shall we go and get married today?” Chris asked cautiously. “We do have the permit to register as of yesterday.” Chris added seeing that Emile didn’t respond. “We can still have the reception day after tomorrow as planned.” Chris was feeling anxious with every passing minute. He felt like he was going to be robbed of his dream after it was given to him at arm’s length. “Puchi…” Emile giggled mischievously “Why are you anxious?” “Why are you not responding?” “You didn’t give me a chance.” Emile shrugged smiling “Let’s go. It doesn’t matter if it’s one day before or after.” Chris and Emile didn’t dawdle any
