JENNIFERI was laid back by the old lady's single statement “What could she know?” I thought she was probably just trying to milk me off because of my present physical state, with my rough denemor Anyone with half a brain wound sense that I'm passing through a lot.“Old lady, if you need a drink you simply ask for it, I might be moved by your plea to buy you a bottle or two, trying to cajole me with lies about what you know or not won't work at this point,” I said with an air of finality while I try to get off from the stool I sat on.I paid for my shot, taking a closer look at the lady. She looked like she frequented the bar very often, and probably knew one or two about the occupants of the estates.“What do you know old lady, I might pay for your drinks you know?” I turned back at the lady whose chapped lips had tasted years of penury. She adjusted her sit and beckoned at me to come sit down on the stool beside her the one I just got up from. I reluctantly sat down again “Well, wha

LARRY.I couldn't help myself but feel bad about the way I treated her, she was just a victim of pure circumstance.Just the way I was a victim of bullying in high school, I might have gotten my justice, but she will never get the justice she deserves.First, because she was sold to the highest bidder by her father, secondly people like my dad loved to see peasants beg for Mercy, he loves showing his supremacy.I had it in the back of my mind to apologize for my recent outburst. The presence of that evil man I call Dad makes me do the unthinkable sometimes. It was a result of the devil in the room, my father.I know he wouldn't react or try to fight because of my bride present in the room, I hate hate hate that man, I can't even pretend to be in the same room with himI was startled out of my deep thoughts at the creaking of the door, there she was, as gently as a dove. I'm now more convinced that I have been a jerk.“How are you doing Mr Davidson”, she said with the most calming voi

LARRYI breathe in the morning air, the coolness slapping my skin immediately. I feel a little chill. shoving the inner thoughts of going back in to abort the run out of my mind. It's a run, after all. I know within minutes I’ll be begging for my body to return to its chilled state. In fact, I need it—to cool the fire burning inside of me before it devours me completely. The sharpness I feel right now only reminds me of one thing: I'm still alive—not dead, like the way my body makes me believe, just tricked into thinking I am.The towering gate opens to reveal a stretch—the expanse of greenery and trees spread across the Davidson estate.I run my hand through my hair. The 30-minute talk with Jennifer replays in my head.I am pregnant. My chest tightens. It burned deep into my ribs like someone jabbed a hot iron into me and left it there. Her voice still echoes in my ear.“Gosh, she makes me so angry.” I push harder, my Nikes slamming against the pavement like they could crush the thou

I drift into a slumber immediately when my body touches my soft bedded linen after the altercation with my dad. Even when I was a little girl, his encounters were always energy-draining.But I don't drift far when the door creaks open and Rose’s face surfaces, all smudged with white powdery stuff and the smell of freshly baked cookies. She has been baking and cooking. “Dinner is served, madam,” she mutters loud and clear.“I want to eat here,” I mumble, tired to even raise my voice, I push the duvet to cover the part of my exposed skin.“I’m not feeling too well,” I croak, feigning a cough. But Rose isn’t having any of it.“Big master wants every member of the family down,” she says, now coming into full view, bathed in sweat. “Senior Davidson commanded me to tell you to come to the dining room area now” she disappears the same way she came “Wait,” I call out, she reappears“What now?” “Hold on” I motion to her I balance my hand on the bed and prop myself up. It’s none other than

LARRY For the first time since this whole charade, whatever it is,I bet my father will kill me for thinking his beloved dinner is a mere charade.something loosened between us. Just a little slack. But we both felt it.“I just want to thank you for how you stood up for me this evening,” I said, my voice low. I gazed into her eyes, still glistening under the soft lighting. All beaming, glimmering in every shade of red that needed to be, with a sheen that told me everything. She loved this. The glamour, she just blended right in as if she was born for this.A room full of the one percent, the high and mighty. She’s not used to this lifestyle, but I can tell she’s drinking it in. Who wouldn’t?“Come on, let me show you something.” I gently pulled away from the warm closeness between us and took her hand, tugging her through the sea of dignitaries and guests. She hesitated. “Come on,” I said again, tilting my head toward the direction we were headed.“But Larry…”“Don’t worry, they won’t m
