Zara looked over her shoulder quickly. All she saw was the car's shadow disappearing into the night.Stanley bent down to check on her. "Did you hurt your foot?"Zara was taking out the trash when she bumped into Stanley. He had been worried about her and her friend, so he decided to check on them after his classes were done. She walked over to say hi but tripped into a little hole. Luckily, Stanley caught her just in time. "No worries, I'm not in heels," she said with a smile."How's your friend doing?" he asked."The company let her go. The cops and the lawyers couldn't really do anything, so she's just letting it slide," Zara replied with a sigh.Stanley's glasses caught the light of the night. "So, she's not looking into it anymore?"Zara shook her head. She knew who was responsible, and digging deeper would only hurt herself.Looking into her eyes, Stanley asked softly, "Are you okay with that?"Zara's eyes were cool and clear. "No, but I'll remember this," she said firm

In Starville, everyone looked up to Yosef. Zara had gotten on his bad side, and now everyone treated her like his enemy. When she hit a rough patch, the news spread like wildfire even without Yosef giving out the order. People were always quick to gossip if it meant getting on his good side.Yosef was out at lunch with a client when the client mentioned something odd. He said one of his guys had been at the police station and spotted Zara and her friend there. They were caught up in some kind of argument.Yosef did not say much then, but after lunch, he headed straight over.He pulled out his phone and texted Wilder: [Find out what happened to Zara six months ago. The miscarriage.]...Cecil had made up her mind to lay low back home for a couple of months. She would wait out till after New Year's. Once things settled down, she would return to Starville to job hunt.It was Friday, and Cecil was all packed. Zara drove her to the train station and watched her pass through security

Zara could not help but admire Beatrice. No matter how many times they clashed, she always acted like nothing had happened at their next meeting. It was probably a skill she needed for her to be able to stay at Yosef's side. "Ms. Lowry, what are you doing here?"Zara did not even look up and just kept eating.Beatrice was not sure what to make of Zara's behavior and asked again, "It's so quiet here after work hours. Ms. Lowry, why are you here so late?"Zara did not answer, and Beatrice bit her lip. "Are you working nearby? Which company?"She asked three times, trying to figure out Zara's purpose. She was worried that Zara was there to see Yosef at Azure Cloud. Finally, Zara finished her snack and looked up. "You're here for Yosef, right? Go on, then. You might still catch the action if you hurry.""What action?" Beatrice asked quickly.Zara just opened a bottle of water and drank, not saying another word.Beatrice's anxiety got the better of her. She clenched her skirt and

"Yesterday, you sent Ms. Benett to the office to look for me and Mr. Webb, and it almost turned into a big mess," Sarah told her.Zara turned away coolly and pulled down the window shade.Sarah kept smiling. "I'm surprised. After everything on the ship and with you gone from Azure Cloud, you still seem to be really possessive of Mr. Webb. I was just catching up with him, and you tried to mess it up."Mess it up?They had two hours to finish whatever they were doing!Zara wondered if Beatrice had only seen the aftermath or if she had actually walked in on something happening. She frowned as she imagined that scene.A flight attendant stopped by and asked politely, "Can I get you ladies anything to drink?""Just half a cup of lemon water, thanks," Zara said, feeling a little queasy. The flight attendant handed Zara her drink, and she sipped it down.Sarah's voice was a whisper, trying to bait her. "Ms. Lowry, you do care about my relationship with Mr. Webb, right... Is it jealo

"Who else were you expecting?" Yosef's gaze was icy. "Is it a problem for me to stand here and send a text, Ms. Lowry?"Something was not adding up.Ophite and his secretary were up on the 20th floor, while Yosef, his secretary, Charvi, and Sarah were on the 19th. She and Stanley were on the 17th floor. Why would Yosef come down to the 17th floor? Was he looking for Stanley himself?Surely, he was not here for her?Zara's eyes darted briefly, but that did not matter right now. She noticed they were standing too close, and she could smell the strong scent of alcohol on his breath.Had he been drinking after they returned from the mall?Zara spoke up firmly, "Mr. Webb, please let go of me."Yosef was staring at the scarf wrapped around her neck, the one Stanley had helped her with. His stare turned colder by the second as he remembered everything about her and Stanley lately. Then, his eyes dropped to the floor. Her shopping bag had tumbled down, spilling clothes everywhere.
