JULIE “I was not expecting you” I smiled as Adam walked into my apartment. I closed the door behind him and walked straight into his arms, inhaling his masculine scent and loving the steady thrumming of his heartbeat close to my ears. His eyes were vacant as I stared up at him, like his mind was very far away and I wondered what the problem was. “We have to end whatever this is” He muttered in a low voice. “What are you talking about?” I asked, while he pushed me away. “We cannot continue whatever this is” He repeated, running a hand through his hair. I said nothing, waiting for him to tell me he was joking and he loved me… like he always said. “But I thought…” “You thought what?” He quipped. “Thinking is not exactly your forte, Julie… you should stick to sucking cocks; now that is something you are very good at” He smirked. “Stop saying that” I squeaked, wondering where all these was coming from. “You did not think that I would choose you over the numerous celebrity women

JULIE I closed my eyes in a prayer as I walked into the office. I had taken some days off since the day Adam walked into my home and dumped me. He had not fired me like he promised but it would seem that someone had spread the news about the end of our relationship in the office because as soon as I arrived the next day, I began to hear snide remarks about how I had given myself to my boss and how I was used and dumped by him. I knew he had done that, spread those malicious rumors to put himself in the clear. He had all but threatened me when he came over and this was his plan. Taking about a week off seemed like the best course of action after everything but I was back now and with news I did not think Adam was going to like but he was going to have to accept. A sickness had hit me days ago but now I knew it wasn’t just any sickness… I was pregnant, two weeks pregnant and Adam was the father. I smiled as the elevator door opened and I walked straight to his office door which I

JULIE SIX YEARS LATER I laughed as soon as my son bounded into my arms, inhaling the familiar scent of him and snuggling him to my chest. “Hey baby, how was school today?” “It was okay, we had a new teacher… she is nice and called me a great boy” He laughed, holding his arms out so I could help him into the car. “That is perfect, baby. We are going to the office because I have a meeting and I could not book Molly” I told him. “That’s okay. I love your office and I promise to be on my best behaviour” He assured me. I smiled, marveling at how well my baby had grown over the years. It wasn’t everyday one was blessed with such a bright child and I could only thank my good fortunes. I had named him after his asshole of a father at a time when I had thought it was a good idea but his surname remained mine and I was going to make sure it stayed that way. “Do you want some ice cream while you wait for me to be done?” I asked as soon as we neared the office. The client we were goin

JULIE I stepped out of the plane with Bryan and sighted the waiting car courtesy of Adam’s company. The move back to London had been swift after the contract signing and I was chosen to represent the company meaning I would be working as close to Adam as we used to in the past. There was a difference now, though. I was no longer the pathetic little personal assistant who had fallen hopelessly for her boss and allowed him use her for his satisfaction and then toss her out like she was waste product. I was Consultant at the biggest fashion brand in Birmingham… ‘Luxanne’ and I was going to have my own office as a partner to Adam. The chauffeur opened the car door and I mentioned the hotel I would be staying until I get a place to rent. Bryan bombarded me with questions about the city while I did my best to answer and not think about the meeting I was having later in the day at the company. I could not help the tremor that raced up my spine at the thought of returning to that plac

ADAM“You will regret this, I promise you”I paced my office with a million thoughts all in my head, but most especially, the return of Julie. The events of the past week in the office have been nothing but conflicting. If I was ever told that my one time side piece of an assistant would in six year’s time become a partner and top staff of Jones Group of Companies, I would have cast a delirious laughter and called them clowns. But it happened! My past came back to haunt me.With the way I treated her and ended things with her, I doubt we would ever get along fine. I was a total jerk towards her.Is that guilt? Come off it, Adam Jones! You’re a player and you should feel no remorse for a lady that fell for your charms.Julie had changed a lot. Of course, she was a pretty young lady then, but there was something extra about her. She now had this touch of class oozing all over. She no longer looked at her feet while talking to me, like she used to when she was still the timid scaredy as

ADAMI was fixated on the spot, with my mouth wide open, trying to process what just happened. I had seen guts, but what Julie just displayed before me was on some terminator level craziness. I knew her hatred for me was at an all-time high, but I never thought it had gotten to the extent of talking back at me, The Adam Jones.Nobody in London, scratch that… No woman in London dared to talk to me in that tone. Who the fuck does she think she is?I thought of firing her after that, but in as much as Julie had sworn to be a thorn in my flesh, she knew her onions in the fashion Industry and I would be damned if my competitors got their hands on such priceless asset, which is she.“She’d come around. I’m sure she will. But before that, I would put that scallywag in her place. The fact we used to fuck years ago gives her no right to fucking address me in that manner. She’s way beneath me!” I raged, while heading out.It was quite a distance from the office to Dad’s place. I had to go wit

ADAM“What devil is that, boy?” He quizzed, sitting up.“It’s Julie” I told him.“Julie, Julie, Julie. That name kind of sounds familiar. My old brains have it somewhere, but I can’t seem to say where” He thought hard, while staring into nothing in particular.Dad used to have the sharpest of memories when we were younger. It made it difficult for me to tell contradicting lies, because he’d always find out, even if it happened ten years later. Seeing him try so hard to remember Julie, brought me to the full realization that he was getting old indeed and there was nothing I could do about it.“You seriously don’t remember Julie?”“No, son. Although the name rings a bell”“That’s my former assistant, dad. The young lady I got pregnant. I could have sworn that you remember her, given the fact that you kinda threatened to kill her” I explained.“Ohh, yes yes yes! I know Julie. And, point of correction, I never threatened her. I only did what I did to scare her from doing something dangero

JULIE“Now, that arsehole, Adam would regret all he ever did to me. I would be his worst nightmare. As for Samantha, I’ll make sure she gives me my respect, even if it means going to war for it” I soliloquized. It’s been about two weeks since I resumed work at the Jones Group of Companies. Things were still very much like they used to be 6 years ago. The only difference was that I was more respected, unlike when I was still Adam’s little bitch whom he used to satisfy his never-ending urges.Whenever I saw the face of Adam Jones, I saw that of a villain. One that promised me the whole world and threw me outside in the cold to die. Some days, I wished I could do more than yell at him; probably beat him up in retaliation for all that he made me pass through with my son.I swore never to let him know Bryan was his. After all, he was nowhere to be found when I was striving in Birmingham, multitasking between work and taking care of the boy. That bastard doesn’t deserve to father my child!

JULIE“Alright. How long would that take you?” He asked.“Let’s say just a few minutes. You already made the job easier for me” I gestured with my fingers.“So, how are you keeping up with him? I mean, your kid” He asked out of nowhere. The question took me aback because it was usually only about my work and how I was coping in the new place. I took a deep breath and replied.“I won’t say it has been easy. Sometimes, it just gets too demanding and I’m the only one available to take care of him” I continued with my work.“How long has it been since the divorce?” He pushed further. All these years, I’ve been trying so hard to keep the fact that Adam is my baby daddy, a secret, and now, Max wants to get it out of me. He didn’t seem to back down. Even if I steered away from the topic, he’d still raise the question some other time.“ Five years, Max. It’s been over five years since we split” I lied. His eyes lit up in shock as he continued,“You mean to tell me he never spent a fucking yea

JULIEBryan was my world, the only reason I kept pushing. He was still a kid, but I could comfortably shed a tear or two whenever I was in my feelings and he would console me without knowing what the issue was. I kept doing my best to ensure he never missed the presence of a father.Birmingham was home to him. He was born and brought up there. All his friends were there and it was never difficult for him to make friends in school there. But it was different in London. He would always come home to complain about other kids not wanting to play with him.To him, the kids in London were different and they didn’t like him.‘Mummy, I don’t like it here. All the kids are being mean to me” He’d usually say.“I’m sure you’ll enjoy it soon enough, sweetie. Just give it time” I’d assure him.I just kept hoping I told him the truth and not something to keep him calm for the moment.I watched him as he bounced in glee towards the car. A happy kid, he was.“Baby, how was school today? Did you make
