CHARLOTTE'S POV I rolled my eyes as I stood. Jenn had nothing important to say, I was sure of it. She just loved attention so much. I opened the door, and true to my thoughts, she was holding up in front of her face. “I've wanted to read this book forever". She nearly squealed. I felt Jameson come up close behind me. “You need a boyfriend". He said, rubbing my hip with one hand. The book lowered to reveal her face, and she blinked blankly. “I have priorities, thanks". Okay. I squeezed Jameson's hand on my hip surreptitiously. “I'll check out the library in like, six minutes". Her eyes dropped to our joined hands on my hip and she raised a brow at me. I grinned, pushing Jameson back in with my back and closing the door. I waited to hear her walk away. “I said something wrong, didn't I?" Jameson asked. He'd already walked back to the bed. “Jenn has been through...a difficult time with men. She's still kinda recovering". Jameson nodded. “Men and relati

BRANDON'S POV Someone else would have described it as taking it too far. Lucky enough for that person, he or she was not unfortunate to say that around me. I might have fed him or her to the scaled beasts in the glass tanks surrounding me as a gift to the men I was about to hire. I wasn't sure how they did it, sitting entirely unafraid and not even a little jumpy, in a small room almost entirely surrounded with crocodiles swimming in glass tanks they could smash with their tails. But they made it work. And it was working like hell, in those moments. It was all I could do to keep from breaking into a cold sweat. “Carter Schnapp's daughter" one of the men seated across the rectangle table from me and Ferrars, a young man from Kareem's special security detail who had been assigned to escort me till the situation died down, and we were all out of danger. I did not even know Kareem had a special security detail. He had no reason to tell me, he said. “I've heard of him, you kn

BRANDON'S POV I walked past a weird Ava, headed to Kareem's office. I had to inform him about the letter. I didn't really expect to see it, as it said. I thought Charlotte already knew the cover was blown, and there was no need to send anymore. It wasn't really changing anything, at least I thought it wasn't, but I had to tell him anyway. Keeping things like this to myself was the reason we were this deep in shit in the first place. He was on his way to my office already, sauntering and looking how I wished I felt, which was not wired and wanting to punch something. I immediately thought of Ava and what she told me, that he'd invited her to lunch. I decided to push that aside even though it did not sit well with me. “There's something you need to see". I said to him. “There is?" He replied. He shoved his hands in his pockets. “How did your meeting go?" I blinked. I'd forgotten all about that. “It went well". I replied, careful not to say too much. “I don't suppose

JAMESON'S POV Charlotte had developed a large appetite. I watched in amusement as she wolved down a third helping of the meal she made less than an hour before. She sat between my open legs, in a hoodie and shorts. I hadn't detected any extra weight in her yet, but I was sure if we had the opportunity to continue our stay in the house, she'd be too large to move in a few months. What I wanted to say was cut off by the door of our room opening abrubtly. Jenn had this odd way of opening and slamming doors. It felt like she was venting her frustration on the poor barriers. She stalked into the room not looking at us. She seemed to be in a horrible mood. She collapsed in a couch, book in hand. She finally noticed us. She made a face at Charlotte. “God, you eat like a pregnant woman". I felt Charlotte stiffen. “I know you're free to do whatever here, there's no shithead husband or wicked stepmother around, but we'd really like to be able to get you out the door

JENN'S POV Charlotte was pregnant. Now that I'd voiced it out loud, the signs were there and obvious. There was no need for a test. When you lived in a large home with a lot of couples, the signs of pregnancy became familiar. The mood swings, the appetite. She had even gained a little weight. In all honesty, I wasn't sure whether to be happy or terrified. It was huge, like she said, and it was the wrong time. I knew she was living in denial now, she still hoped the test would come out negative. She was troubled. Pregnancy wasn't the best thing to show itself while people were in the middle of running for their lives. But for me that was only half the problem. The pregnant tied her to Jameson. And that was terrifying for me. Charlotte was very soft hearted, and Jameson was insistent. I worried sometimes that he crowded her, gave her no time to think about herself and what she really wanted, how she wanted to move on. What exactly she wanted to focus. The moment she
