“Life’s victims can’t be choosers.”Daisy’s POVThe dark cloud looking over the kingdom was my father’s presence. And to avoid him, I restricted my movement to places I knew I wouldn’t run into him or Astrid. The paranoia I felt, had me locking the door behind me, wedging the door with a chair.I had changed my eating schedule to work around the time I wouldn’t have to run into them and that meant I was skipping out on meals.“Daisy,” Brittany’s voice called, pounding gently on her door.I winced as I slowly moved to the door, “that’s a lot of locks,” Brittany commented, listening to me trying to open the door. The playful look on Brittany’s face was wiped off as she noticed the broken look on my face.Brittany closed the door, “please lock it,” I whispered, my voice dripping with fear.Brittany nodded, twisting the locks in place and rushing to sit beside me in the bed.“What happened?” she asked, her fingers gently poking on my scars as she examined them.“I walked into a door,” I s

“How long can I wade through the tide?”Daisy’s POV“Get up,”The sun had risen, I looked outside, my eyes taking in the last sunrise before I took my last breath. My heart beat matched the tempo of the drums as I walked down to the arena, where they had prepared my gallows. The air was somber, children stood with pitiful gazes watching as I was to be brought to my final end.My father stood on the make shift stage, his eyes shining brighter than the sun. Astrid stood beside him, dressed in black from head to toe. It was almost like she was mourning my demise.“We are gathered here today, by the ruling of the old law,” Lucien started, his eyes fixed on mine.“today, Daisy Smith had been found guilty of theft,” he said, his voice cracking at the pronouncement. My hands were tied around the pole, my shirt had been ripped out.The drumming had stopped, the silence was palpable, and I closed my eyes tight, begging myself to not fall apart.A sharp crack sound whizzed through the air, my l

“If wishes came true, would everything be different?” Daisy’s POV I was confined to the room in the clinic, only allowed a few minutes in the sun. I knew they tried to keep it away from me, but they couldn’t hide Jade’s screams in the middle of the night as she was whipped. Hades presence had become a constant surface of warmth I longed for, chasing it blindly. “Alaric she can’t drink alcohol yet,” Brittany hissed, snatching the bottle out of his hands. Priya snickered, enjoying the way Brittany and Alaric bickered like old couples. “A little bit of it will not kill her,” Alaric tried to convince Brittany. Brittany hissed, looking unimpressed by his antics. The look in her eyes was murderous, but Alaric looked unaffected, almost like he lived off pushing people’s buttons to their lowest. Their bickering stopped, signaling the arrival of Hades. Brittany smiled warmly at him, bowing her head down in respect in his presence. Priya on the other hand avoided his gaze, an

“hung my head as I lost the war.”Daisy’s POVPriya had a permanent scowl on her face. I knew she was a ticking time bomb and she was going to detonate at any moment.“I can’t do this,” Priya hissed, locking the door behind her.Brittany had a warning look on her face, it was as if they had had this conversation a couple of times.“I won’t be able to deal with it if I don’t talk about it, Britt,” Priya hissed, her voice filled with frustration.“Daisy do you think you are up for it,?” Brittany asked, smiling gently at me.I nodded, it was no use delaying the inevitable, I was ready to have the conversation that had been hanging around us like rocks, weighing us down.“okay,” I whispered, lifting myself to a better position.Priya sat in front of me, biting her lips as she thought of the possible way to say what was on her mind.“you gave up?” Priya said, the accusation in her tone couldn’t be countered.“you just accepted it, you barely put up a fight,” she uttered, her eyes wide in d

“the gleam in your eyes, the all so familiar mischief.”Daisy’s POVThings were slowly going back to the usual. Usual being, Hades submerged in work, and me hiding away in the garden.“Don’t be mad,” Priya nervously muttered beside me, her fingers playing with the pebbles on the ground.“What did you do?” I asked.“Why would you think I did something?” Priya asked in a defensive tone.I released a long breath, looking up to the skies and silently praying for strength to not hurt the wolf child I called my best friend.“Because when you start your sentence with don’t be mad, it usually ends with one of us trying to rip the other off,” I said in a duh tone.Priya had me questioning my sanity, everyday with her seemed like a test, a cruel game by the goddess you see how far I could go before I lost it and strangled her.“This isn’t about me,” Priya sassed, rolling her eyes at my response.“That’s even more scary,” I muttered under my breath.“I wasn’t meant to say anything about it but X
