"Z! Are you coming tonight?" I widened my eyes at Lexy and signaled for her to keep it down. It was Friday, and my friends wanted to party at a bar not far from our school. It was also one of our teammate’s birthdays. We were in the school's closed gym. I sat on the bench, drinking water and catching my breath after volleyball training. I was waiting for Bettina, my sister. She's a cheerleader here. Of course, with her beauty and talent, most boys on campus were chasing after her. "I need your answer now so I can plan my outfit!" Lexy said, nudging me dramatically. I rolled my eyes and walked closer before replying, "I'll message you later. You know I have to sneak out again." She laughed and poked me in the ribs. "You're really such a brat! What if your parents find out? I’ll get scolded too if they know I’m with you!" I sighed. What could I do? My family kept me on a tight leash, and I could never seem to break free. "I’ll come. Just meet me there." She beamed, and I quickly

This place is boring! Less than an hour since I arrived at this house, and I was already restless. This is not the punishment I was expecting! I already cried earlier, but I stopped because crying didn’t help at all. I even called Mommy, but she still hasn’t talked to Daddy about me, so I lost hope even more. I opened my suitcases and unpacked my things one by one. The room is big, and I like its design. There’s a wide window where you can see trees and even some mountains not far from the house. The view is relaxing, but whenever I think about my life in the city compared to life here in the province, I can’t help but feel annoyed. I don’t know how long I spent organizing my things, but when I got tired, I fell asleep. I only woke up because of Manang Gina’s knocking. I hadn’t realized it was already late and time for dinner. “Ma'am Zari, I'm sorry about our dinner tonight. This is all Julio got from fishing. I couldn’t go to the market either since I was fixing the room you’ll be

I left the house to go to school. It wasn't hard to remember the way to get there, so I got there right away. The guard there talked to me for a moment, and when he found out that I was a transferee, he immediately let me inside the school. I don't know where the professors' faculty department is here, but I'll just ask when I see someone inside. The school and university are quite spacious, but not as big as my school in Manila. There are also big buildings there, and there are benches and some trees. I parked where I saw other cars. It's very quiet in this place because there are no students today. I keep getting nervous because these are the scenes I watch in horror movies. I feel like I'm alone here! I took a deep breath and pushed out of my mind what was on my mind. I walked away from the parking lot to enter the building, even though I didn't know which way to go. It was as if I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw a man arranging things in a room. He was taking out some boxe

"Give me that," he said again with a serious voice. I shook my head, showing him that I was cool even though I was nervous. I quickly sent it in my own message, but my eyes almost widened when my phone suddenly disappeared from my hand. "Hey!" I said when Brandon took it from me. I stood up to take it back to him, but it looked like he had already seen his picture on my phone. "See? Liar," he said. "I'm not! Give me that!" I told him. He is tall, so I can't reach it in his hand, especially when he lifts it up to keep it away from me. He pressed something on my phone, and I think he deleted his picture. "Why did you do that?" he asked me, then hung up my phone. I shook my head at him and again tried to take it from him, but he pushed it away from me. "You deleted it, didn't you? So give my phone to me!" I said to him, annoyed. Now he was the one who shook his head, so I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at him. "I won't give it back to you until you tell me the re

My sisters and I ended up talking that night, but we didn't end the facetime. We slept with our cameras on. The next day I was the first to wake up while my two sisters were still sleeping. When I came down from my room, I immediately caught up with Manang Gina in the living room. It was still a bit dark outside, so I was surprised when Manang Gina was there. "Oh, Z. It's too early; why are you awake?" she asked me immediately when she saw me. "Good morning, Manang. I woke up really early so I could prepare for my first day of school," I explained to her. She was cooking breakfast, and just the smell of what she was cooking was already appetizing. "Okay, okay. I haven't finished the breakfast I'm cooking yet. I'll make you some coffee first," she said, which I immediately stopped. "No, Manang. Just continue what you're doing. I'll take care of myself," I said, then smiled. She just nodded at me and didn't argue anymore, so I started making my coffee. "Has Johny come ho
