Everything was in place. The only thing left to workout was who we were targeting and when, but I hoped that would become more clear once we were there. Once we knew who was where, we would know who was weak. We didn’t have a lot of time, but we had enough to spend some of it watching and waiting. The fighting members of the pack were already in the woods. Rounding up the deer and driving them towards the city. It was a big risk having them in werewolf form, but it was too late to worry about exposure. We were already exposed for all intents and purposes. The city buzzed with frenetic energy, far too busy for my liking. I lingered in the shadows of a narrow alleyway, my gaze fixed on the bustling main doors ahead. The sharp clamour of footsteps and lively chatter enveloped me, a stark contrast to the solitude of the woods. The twins left after me, allowing me a head start to get into position. I would make my way up to the rooftop, a vantage point that offered both escape and

I hated watching Turner change and lunge at the pair of them. More to the point, I hated him doing it and me being useless.Brodie and Jackson sprung forward at Turner, who snarled and dodged their attacks. Going head to head against each other. Turner wasn’t faster or stronger than them, but he had the advantage of experience. They circled him, looking for an opening to strike again. Turner snapped his jaws at Brodie, who barely avoided losing an ear. Jackson seized the opportunity and bit down on Turner’s hind leg, making him yelp in pain. Turner kicked Jackson off and turned to face him, but Brodie was already on his back, digging his claws into his fur.Turner howled and shook Brodie off, then charged at him with full force. Brodie braced himself for the impact, but Jackson tackled Turner from the side, knocking him off balance. The two werewolves rolled on the ground, biting and scratching each other. Brodie joined the fray, aiming for Turner’s throat. Turner foug

I managed to get a few good blows in, but there was something within John that made him stronger than I had expected. I didn’t know what he had done, but he must have done something. He seemed to be throwing me around like a rag doll. As I crashed into yet another wall, I spotted my mother in the cell. She was bound and gagged, but I didn’t have time to think about her.I pulled the dagger from my belt and held it in front of me, extracting a laugh from John. “Do you really think that is going to do anything? The least you could do is use a silver blade. It would at least make it interesting.” I was breathing out my ass, with sweat dripping down my forehead. John in comparison looked like he was lounging by the pool in comparison. As he lunged forward, I managed to get the blade to his skin, but it was barely more than a slight slice. His hand was around my neck in an instant and I felt the wall at my back as he slid me up it. “Well, little girl, whoever sent you in he

Esme  I spent the whole ride back to camp trying to figure out everything that had happened. Trying to get it all straight in my mind. I knew Brodie was right. John was probably going to kill me. It was wishful thinking that he knew me, that he loved me. Even if he managed to remember, he would remember his hatred for my kind as much as anything else. I struggled to comprehend the reality of it all; it felt surreal that everything had unfolded the way it had. Not only was I grappling with the grief of losing someone, but I also found myself wrestling with the complicated emotions tied to the man who had raised me. Our relationship had always been strained, marked by miscommunications and unspoken grievances, yet beneath that tumult, I still harboured love for him. In the depths of my heart, I had hoped for a different outcome—an alternative

The trials were scheduled just a few days later, and in a move that surprised me, Brodie had chosen to confront both Turner and Mary simultaneously. He claimed it was for the sake of expedience, wanting to streamline the process and make it as efficient as possible. But deep down, I understood that it was just another way for him to shield me from the emotional fallout. He didn't want the weight of the situation hanging over us any longer than necessary, a dark cloud threatening to obscure our attempts at moving forward. The trials weren’t at all what I expected. They unfolded in the meeting cabin, a space usually reserved for discussions and planning, but this time the atmosphere felt charged with tension. To my surprise, the doors were left wide open, inviting the curious glances of onlookers. A sizable crowd had gathered outside, their whispers a murmur of anticipation, and I could tell that nearly everyone in camp had come to witness the proceedings. The sunlight streamed
