On the ground floor of the Da Vinci’s mansion is the security room, a compact high-tech space where security cameras from all over the town of Palmero were reviewed by select security agents. I have access to this room but I use the smaller room for briefing. The walls are adorned with maps of the estate and the surrounding area, with a small console that houses the backup security system of the mansion. No one except my father, Mikel and I know about the backup security system. The room is dimly lit and has a musty smell about it. Opening my eyes was accompanied with a pounding headache, forcing me to close them briefly and rub my forehead. My mouth was dry and felt like it was stacked with dry cottons. ‘’That was the worst sideline in the history of sidelines,’’ he said, looking at me with disapproval in his eyes. ‘’I could address it on your behalf, but that would make you even look weaker.’’My eyes burned with rage. ‘’Don’t think you get to speak to me in such manner, Aaron.’’He looked like he wanted to say something but decided otherwise. Lorenz stepped forward, his eyes scanning the room as the women tried to take cover. She fumbled with the lock. It seemed it required some arrangement of the tiles on the door to unlock it. She furrowed her brows in concentration, her fingers moving deftly and pressing the tiles in place. I sat silently in the car, my eyes scanning the road. It was just a little past 1am and the streets were scanty. It would not be hard to find me and put an end to my life long dream of becoming a mafia boss. I replayed every event of that night from meeting up with Lorenz at the car, and wondered where the mission had begun to fail. Why did that man on the corridor suddenly shoot at us?
