CHAPTER EIGHTY - ONE

Detective Garrett walked back into the house now.“I am sorry you both had to go through this” detective Garrett said. Julian finally broke away from our embrace and we all turned to detective Garrett and that’s when it occurred to me that the person I saw tase the man was actually Frederick.“Frederick?” I suddenly said. Julian looked at me and then looked at Frederick and realized he was the one who actually stood there. He was caught up in getting to me that he didn’t notice him when he came in. “How are you here? I’ve been trying to reach you but nothing man! Walker said you went to Russia but you weren’t there, where have you been all this while?!” Julian said, a little bit frustrated.“I’m really sorry for ghosting you all, I really thought I could pull it through but I couldn’t” Frederick said.“What do you mean ghost all of us? Were you trying to disappear?” I asked. Marve gently led his wife to have a seat as it was going to be a long conversation. “I’m so sorry Lexi, I

CHAPTER EIGHTY - TWO

“I just got off the phone with detective Garrett, he said officer Petra was attacked in her home” I said to Julian.“Attacked?” Julian asked. “Do you think this was the trap detective Garrett said he set up for officer Petra?” Frederick asked.“No, he initially had plans of shaking her up a bit by having someone act as though he was ordered to attack her but I think your father actually sent someone to eliminate her” I said. “That’s just how he does things, he never leaves any lose ends” Julian said.“So the suspect is still at large?” Frederick asked.“Yes but officer Petra came clean, she has confessed to her crimes and that of Mr Blackwood” I said.“Knowing who my father is, he would go underground. It would then be difficult to find or locate him and my guess is the suspect would be with him” Julian said.“I think in the meantime we need to know the true story behind the Elysium and the orphanage…. We all seem to be connected to this one way or the other” I suggested.“Walker wa

CHAPTER EIGHTY - THREE

HOW IT ALL STARTED EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO18 years ago, Mr Blackwood was seen in his office going through some documents as David knocked and came in.“Have you been able to find a suitable option?” Mr Blackwood asked.“Yes sir, it’s an orphanage run by a friend of mine….he can be quite difficult but I believe we would be able to make him an interesting offer” David said. “What about the artist? We need an artist to host the art exhibition, an exhibition is the only way we can use to pretend to care and support the orphanage” Mr Blackwood said.“I am still working on getting the right artist sir” David said.“How is your wife by the way?” Mr Blackwood asked.“She is doing fine sir” David said.“Okay….that will be all” Mr Blackwood said and went back to what he was doing. David drove all the way down to the orphanage to meet with his friend who was the director of the orphanage as at that time. David parked his car in front of the orphanage as he opened the gate ans walked in. On his wa

CHAPTER EIGHTY - FOUR

David returns to Mr Blackwood’s residence and informs him of the new update.“I have finally been able to speak to the said artist sir” David said.“What did he say” Mr Blackwood asked.“Actually sir, they are a couple. The director recommended them as they quite good artists and have a good reputation” David said.“A couple?” Mr Blackwood asked.“Yes sir” David said.“Well, having them handle the art exhibition should not be a problem” Mr Blackwood said.“Not at all, I explained everything to them. I just need to get a list of what they would need for the success of it” David said.“When we have succeeded with the art exhibition, put the next plan in motion” Mr Blackwood ordered.“Yes sir” David said and still remained.“Is there anything you want to say?” Mr Blackwood asked.“Yes, yes sir…. I wanted to ask how the sample test is coming up” David said.“Why do you think I am in a haste to find kids for the testing?” Mr Blackwood asked.“I’m sorry sir, it was a silly question to ask.

CHAPTER EIGHTY - FIVE

Mr Blackwood had a scheduled meeting with the major investors of this new product he was making in his residence where Julian lived in the present as they all sat down “What is holding the sample test?” the first investor asked.“Yes, we have put in so much money and we are yet to see anything for it,” the third investor said. “I sincerely apologize for the delay we have faced in the course of the sample testing, I am heavily working on that,” Mr Blackwood said.“And what exactly is causing this delay?” the first investor asked.“Finding the right test subjects for the sample testing” Mr Blackwood said.“Can’t you get volunteers and tell them it’s clinical trials and then pay them afterwards?” the second investor said.“That would have been a plausible outcome but being that the said products is a high level kind of product, we wouldn’t want one of the volunteers ratting us out or going against the agreement by taking things out of hand” Mr Blackwood said.“I agree” the first invest

CHAPTER EIGHTY - SIX

It was finally the day of the art exhibition and everything needed was set and provided by Mr Blackwood through David. The supplies needed were offloaded at the orphanage as it was all set up. The children at the orphanage were all gathered and with support from my parents they painted as much as they wanted and were filled with happiness. I also took part in the art exhibition and painted a piece of art of which I showed my parents.“Mommy!……look at my painting!” I said happily as I ran over to my mom. “You did such a good job sweetheart” my mom said as she took the painting from me and looked at it.“Why don’t we have this hung up somewhere here so when the kids see it, they would remember that you were here. What do you say?” My mom asked.I nodded in agreement and followed my mom as we went into a room in the orphanage that was created as a painting room for the kids and she hung my painting on the wall there and I was the happiest to see my work up there on the wall amongst oth

CHAPTER EIGHTY - SEVEN

Weeks passed and the acquisition of the orphanage was finally processed and as promised, Mr Blackwood made necessary changes and spendings on the orphanage and it all seemed like a win win situation for everyone including the kids. Because of the ownership Mr Blackwood had over the orphanage, he now had access to consult or convey the kids for any purpose he had.“Medical check up?” the director asked.“Yes, he has invited a very reputable medical personnel to have the kids checked for any underlying conditions, better safe than sorry don’t you think?” David said.“You are right about that but I don’t know if—“the director was cut short.“You don’t have to worry about anything, remember he is now the owner of the orphanage and all the cost will be covered by him, we just need to have the kids tested and checked” David said.“I wasn’t actually worried about the cost” the director said.“My point is, you don’t have to actually worry about anything….the medical personnel will be here in

CHAPTER EIGHTY - EIGHT

“Mommy, can I take my pink bag along?” I asked my mom with puppy eyes.“Alright, just this one time” my mom said as she cleared out all of my toys and dressed me up as we waited for the car David sent us. After a while, the car arrived and we all got into the and drove off to Mr Blackwood’s residence as we were welcomed by him and David. “I hope the ride here wasn’t so tedious” Mr Blackwood asked.“ I didn’t think one could find a home in a secluded area like this” my dad said.“Please, I built this place for my solace and peace away from the bubbling city….. I see you brought your kid” Mr Blackwood said, a little bit displeased.“Please pardon us, the invite was so sudden, we had no time to fix a place for our daughter… I do hope you don’t mind sir” my mom said.“Luckily, I have a son a tad older than her, I’m sure it would be nice to play with him…… Please come in” Mr Blackwood said as my mom held my hand and we all went inside. We got into the main house and everything seemed so

CHAPTER EIGHTY - NINE

The car finally dropped us off at our house and drove off as we all went inside. “Lexi, what was that all about? That wasn’t a nice to do” my mom said to me as she sat me down.“But mommy, Joan was there and she needed help” I insisted.“Are you still on this Lexi?” My dad asked.“But—“ I got cut short.“No more buts Lexi” my mom said.I then suddenly remembered that I had taken pictures of what I saw with the toy camera my mom got me so I could take beautiful pictures of artworks.I hurriedly picked up my pink bag and brought out the toy camera and showed it to my mom.“Here mommy, I took pictures” I said as I handed over the toy camera to her and she went through it.The gasp and shock on her face alerted my dad as he came over too.“What is it?” He asked and collected the toy camera from my mom and looked at it and saw the same thing my mom saw— a secret room turned to a lab to experiment on the kids from the orphanage.“How could this be?” my dad asked. “This is unbelievable, ha

CHAPTER - NINETY

My mom was already done with the painting she had painted and hidden clues in it. “Let’s call it…….Elysium, symbolizing happiness and bliss” my dad said. My mom nodded in agreement as she wrote the word “Elysium” at the base of the painting. “I hope Lexi will find the happiness she truly deserves” my mom said and dropped her paint brush.Just then, there was a knock on the door right after as my dad and mom looked at each other. They suspected who it could be at that time so they went silent and said no word or responded to the door. Suddenly there was a loud bang and the door flung open as David and the aide walked in. “Sorry, we had to let ourselves in. It’s not nice to keep your guests waiting outside without a response, don’t you think,” David said as he walked in.“You weren’t invited……What do you want?” My dad asked.“I think you know what I want, I wouldn’t want to waste my time” David said.“We have no idea what you want, we have no business holding whatever it is you bel
