Lyra(Mia’s)POVEven Veronica was worried when she saw me begin to cough.“What's going on?” she whispered as she leaned closer. “Didn't you switch the poison bottles?”I didn't tell her about this part. I wanted everyone to be taken by surprise.“What is going on? What have you done, Nyla?” Xander yelled out in frustration. “How dare you try to spoil our visitor's drink?!”“I just did what I felt is necessary to be done. Don't act so innocent. We have no more use for her. Someone had to do it!”She didn't even care to deny the allegations. I had thought that she would put up some kind of fight or at least try to keep up with the good girl act.“You shouldn't have done that. That woman had been nothing but helpful to us. Why would you want to kill her?” she asked, her voice trembling.I observed everyone's reaction. This was the only way I could find out who had changed after all of this time. But no one seemed unsettled by what was going on.All they did was keep on blaming her. The o

Xander’s POVI would have preferred to take a leap into hell rather than stand in this room. It was better to have a thousand trombones yell in my ears than have to watch the four other individuals stare at each other with deafening unspoken words. There was no escape. Everyone had been touched, torched. Yes, the words burned, leaving scars with bruises of their own.For one thing, there was something more dangerous than the bubble of threats and truths that had just exploded in the air. It was the tension that came afterward.“Go ahead, call her bluff,” Nyla’s voice broke through the thick air. “Tell her that you are going to stand behind me and make sure that her lies don't see the light of day.”That would be a lot easier if I didn't know the truth. I had a huge part to play in it after all.“Are you out of your mind?” I whispered. “Does that woman look like someone who would be throwing around promises like that for fun? She is going to keep to her word,” I hissed. “I told you to

Lyra(Mia’s)POV The ride back was quiet. Veronica had contacted Alpha Damion and out of the “goodness of his heart” he had sent a car down our way.He was a quiet fellow and I wouldn't have it any other way.Just get me as far as possible from this place before I lose my cool. When you spend an entire week on the ground with lions, the greatest treasure you can hope for becomes a breath of fresh air.I'm not talking about the one oozing in from the car window. The gift is being able to breathe without fear that in that second, a killer was crawling up on you.I couldn't call it peace. The chaos was far from being killed.I was yet to get my payback.“Have you been able to get what I asked for?” I inquired from Veronica. She had the same dazed look from the minute she hopped into the car.I had to tap her thigh slightly to get back her attention.“I asked a question and you still haven't answered. What’s going on?”“Sorry. I zoned out. It’s just that I can't believe what happened in th

Damion’s POVI watched her closely as she made her way over to the cushion. Something about her was definitely different.Down to her walking step. It was with grace. The only thing that hadn’t changed were the constant glances back at the door. I made a mental note to be more careful. This woman might have just gotten into trouble and dragged it all the way into my house.“I just helped him get three dresses ready for the competition. Nothing more, nothing less.”I leaned on the desk, finding her eyes through the fireplace-lit room. They were cold, unbreaking.“How come I had to send a car to come and get you? Why aren’t you coming back in the same way that you left?”She rolled her eyes. “Oh, please. Enough of the questions, Alpha. I just went for a quick work detour and now I’m back. Can I go back to work and finish my designs for the company?”Her eyes darted across the room as I stood up and headed toward her.“Something is not right. I can pick out the scent of rotten fish. Tell

Lyra(Mia’s)POV“What do you mean by that?”I asked and immediately changed my mind. There was a more pressing question at hand.“Why did the whole transformation thing happen when it is not the full moon yet?”He sighed. “I don't know fully what is going on, but I think whatever happened has something to do with you.”I placed a hand on my chest, gobsmacked. “Me? All I have been doing has been to help you. Why would you blame me for what happened?”“I am not blaming you,” he retorted. A shiver ran through my veins as I felt his hands on my shoulder. “You're the reason why the monster is fighting so hard. I think he realizes that you can break the curse.”My heart sunk to my stomach. “I'm supposed to break your curse.” My voice was rising steadily. “This doesn't make any sense.”“It's time to tell you the truth. I feel you can handle it now.”I didn't know what I was signing up for, but I let him lean on me for support as we found our way to the cushion.“The curse is a miserable thing
