TILDAThe house was unusually quiet when I returned. Miranda was nowhere in sight. It was Friday afternoon—the kids should have been back from school already. A pang of unease hit me as I reached for my phone and dialed Miranda. She answered almost immediately. “Hello, Tilda, are you home already?”Her voice was calm, but where was she? And where were the kids?“Is that Mommy?” Diamond’s cheerful voice chimed in the background. “Give me the phone, I need to talk to her!”A mix of emotions surged through me—relief at hearing her excitement, yet confusion gnawed at me. Had Miranda picked them up late? That had to be it.“Diamond!” I called softly. “Are you on your way home now?”She giggled. “We already left, Mommy! Are you missing us already?”Left? My pulse quickened. “Where’s Miranda? Left to where? Are your brothers with you?”“Miranda is in front of the car, Mommy. The boys are here too,” she assured me.“Pass the phone to her, sweetheart.”I forced myself to stay calm. The kids we

THIRD PARTY"Shantel is my friend. It’s her birthday party, and she invited me. You can’t just send us away," Diamond stated firmly, her small frame standing tall with defiance.Despite the older woman’s hostility, she refused to back down. She had been raised to stand her ground against bullies, and this was no exception. Her brothers had always taught her never to yield to intimidation.Megan crouched slightly, her lips curling into a taunting smirk. "Is that so, girl?" she sneered. "You should know which parties are meant for you. Your mother should have taught you where you belong.""You don’t talk about our mommy that way!" Dylan snapped, his young face burning with anger."We’re only here because of Diamond," Dixon added, crossing his arms. "It’s not like we wanted to come in the first place."The boys couldn’t stand her anymore. She could do anything but talk down on their mother. Right now, they don’t care about whatever fun the party offered and would rather turn back and ret

THIRD PERSONRufus was genuinely enjoying his time with the children. They were the only ones who paid him any real attention during the event. Everyone else was too busy mingling with influential guests, and even his beloved Shantel hadn’t spared him a moment.“You’re Shantel’s grandpa. Can you be my grandpa too?” Diamond asked sweetly, her innocent eyes filled with hope.Rufus chuckled at the unexpected request. “Of course, I’m already your grandpa,” he assured her warmly. “Do you have another grandpa, my dear?”Diamond was about to answer when she suddenly recalled Miranda’s warning. Instead, she changed the subject. “I don’t like that other grandma. She was mean and tried to bully us. How do you even put up with her?”Rufus let out a hearty laugh. “Just as you did, my dear—I don’t let her bully me.”Dixon chimed in next, looking around in awe. “There are so many people here, sir, and they must have spent a fortune. I love parties like this.”“Oh, come on, call me grandpa,” Rufus e

TILDAShantel Grant! The name sent a jolt through me.My breath hitched as my eyes darted to the address beneath it. 001 Whale Lane Quarters, Houston Heights. My stomach twisted painfully. My kids… They had gone to my family’s house—and I hadn’t even known.A wave of panic crashed over me. It all made sense now. Shantel was Kristie’s daughter—the child she had from her affair with my ex-husband, James. My pulse thundered in my ears as I bolted from the kitchen.Monsieur King stirred at the sound. “What’s wrong?” His voice, though weak, held concern.I forced a smile, though my hands trembled as I adjusted my bag. “Nothing, sir. I just need to leave early tonight—something urgent came up.”He studied me for a long moment, then nodded slowly. “No need to take me back to my room. Go.”Relief flickered in me, but it did nothing to ease the terror gripping my chest. The second I stepped outside, I fumbled for my phone, dialing frantically. First my kids’ number—no answer. Then Miranda’s—st

KRISTIEThe atmosphere became tensed. Now the truth had been revealed and everyone awaited Oscar Gray’s verdict. If these were indeed his kids, then the news would be the talk of town for a very long time. The kids of the richest man caught stealing at a birthday party.I was already envisaging the endless lists of interviews I would grant as a result, and how I would rub this on Alicia Strafford’s face. After so many years, she was only able to raise a bunch of thieves.Speaking of Alicia Strafford, why wasn’t she here to protect her kids too?Vindicated, I stared at Oscar right in the face and said to him. “My Shantel doesn’t lie. It’s a pity these are the best Alicia could give you. These little thieves cannot be your kids, Oscar.”There were murmurs in the crowd, everyone surprised to discover that they were Oscar Gray’s kids with Alicia Strafford with so many doubting the authenticity. However, Oscar did not try to rebut my assertion instead he gritted his teeth furiously. “Keep
