Samantha's POVI had not rested for a single night, only catching slivers of sleep by Alaric's cell when I went to visit him.My friends Julian and Liv had kept up their calls with me, demanding to know what happened at Arcana Hills as rumors started spreading. I confirmed the rumors about the Matriarchs and their conspiracy, but nothing of Alaric's transition into a hybrid, and nothing of my failing heart. They called every morning and night, checking up on me, even offering to come support me. I was at the point where I couldn't do this alone, and after my visit today with Alaric, I'd have to finally tell them the whole truth.Adams had arrived at Silverbane pack four nights ago. Together we went through Erin and the Matriarchs' research files we'd pulled from the battle. So far, we'd only found the vaccine formula Erin used on the Moonshield warriors, the one that kept rogues from attacking them. It had to do with a scent, something only rogues could detect from their blood, that s

Samantha's POVIt had taken us a few more days to come up with the cure using Erin's experiment and the materials we'd obtained as required. We had obtained the required dosage of blood donated by my grandmother and grandfather. We had enough to go along with Mom's blood bags we'd retrieved from the academy. It was time for Alaric to complete his transition.I stepped into the cell with my father, while my mother, and Adams remained outside the cell, giving their support from there. Mom came even though I worried the sight of Alaric could trigger her trauma, but she insisted. She wanted to be there with us. I could see Alaric tensing up, his claws scraping the chains, like he was on the verge of pulling them from the wall.Sweat began spilling down his wrists as veins surrounded his entire arms. His eyes went completely black upon seeing the blood bags.It didn't matter what he looked like at the moment. It didn't change the way I saw him.As I approached, I heard the way he sniffed

Samantha's POVWater dripped from my hair down to my shoulders. The sound of the shower stopped. Alaric had turned it off, his eyes burning into me like they had since we started. My hands stayed on both sides of his chest, over muscles that buldged and twitched at intervals, sending sparks through my palms to the rest of my body. His hands stayed firmly wrapped around my small waist, holding me securely against him.My eyes stayed at chest level. I refused to acknowledge the attention he'd been giving me throughout the shower because I knew what was going through his mind.We both stayed silent, only our deep breathing echoing through the bathroom. Only his breathing was heavier, like he was holding back the pain I knew was tearing through his heart now.The silence seemed to raise the temperature. My hands against him burned so hot from the tension that it became almost unbearable to hold it in.My eyes stung from staring so long at his chest. I wished I could just close them.Alari

Samantha's POVWhile we waited for the test, the real reason I called the meeting still hadn’t been addressed."Grandma Iris, Grandpa Caius, and Mom."I called them, and they looked at me warily, like I was about to break their hearts again."The reason I called this meeting is because I have something to ask you. And I need the truth," I said. They glanced at each other, then nodded. "Ask us anything," Grandma Iris said.Everyone else stayed quiet, listening."When Dean Carol tried to get into my mind and I saw into hers instead, I saw things. Things that got me confused."The images flashed through my mind again, and a chill ran through me."What did you see?" Grandpa asked when I hesitated."Is it true there’s an entire pack hidden beyond the academy, where the rest of the white wolves are?"I asked, and the shock in their eyes gave me my answer instantly."H-How did they find out?" Grandma asked instead.Dad looked stunned. This was new to him too."Such a place exists?" Dad ask

TWO WEEKS LATERSamantha's POVMy heart had shown significant improvement in two weeks. Mom had begun therapy for her trauma, and while we were all still recovering from the battle at Nightveil and from everything we’d discovered, we didn’t waste any precious family time together. The battles had taught me to value family more than I ever did. Every moment spent together was a treasure. Luna Tamia, who had arrived a day after Alaric’s recovery, had once again returned to Ravenfur Pack with Adams yesterday. I found myself walking down the hallway leading to the throne room where I’d been summoned by my father. He could have chosen anywhere to meet with me, but he chose the throne room, which made me wonder how serious the matter was. I was announced, and the gates to the throne room opened, revealing my father seated on his throne, large and dominant. His aura spread effortlessly through the room. His face brightened into a big smile upon seeing me, and my sh
