Caelan POVThere was an unusual silence. The Idris outpost was void of life. It was almost as if no one was here, but I kept on watching.A slight movement by my side had me turning my head to Thorne, who joined me in my position.“There is no one here.” He said, gazing out.I paused, my gaze running through the area.“Idris is a smart man. He won't leave his position vulnerable to an attack. They are here.” I said.Thorne sighs. “What if he took her to a different place? Or what if it wasn't Idris who took her?”I shook my head. “It was him. I will never forget his scent.”A shiver ran up my spine as a memory plagued me: my pack burning to the ground, my father murdered before me, and Idris's maniacal laughter.“He took her, and he is here.” I sniffed the air. “I can smell him.’The darkness hid us perfectly. No one would be able to see us if we stayed exactly where we were.Thorne seemed to be against my claims as he looked back at the men with us and signaled a sign to them. They h

Thorne POV“They are exactly the way you said they would be.” I said into the air.Behind me, Yvette stood a few feet away, almost as if she was scared of coming close. But I couldn't be bothered about that. What lay before me was what caught my attention.Books of the ancient.“We need to be out before dark. These are not scrolls that should be messed with.” Yvette warned.I nodded my head, but I wasn't listening.I reached out for one of the scrolls and loosened the ropes that held it together. It came undone, and I read it.It wasn't what I was looking for. Just a bunch of stories about the origin of the realm.I opened the next one, and the next one, going through them and tossing them aside if they were not what I needed.“You need to be careful!” Yvette snapped.“I have no time to treat it like a treasure.” I said dismissively.I was about to pick up the last scroll when a loud rumbling sound, accompanied by a slight earthquake, shook the ground. The roof of the cave we were in

Lyra POVStrange things were happening to me, very strange things. It all started after I woke up from that vision. Caelan told me I smelled different, like an ancient.I had no idea what that meant. But what I was sure of was that after that day, I began to feel different, almost as if I was being watched, monitored. It felt like I was never alone. And then once in a while, I heard them. The voices whispered into my ears whenever I was on my own.I felt tempted to stay drawn to them, to follow the voices and find out what they wanted from me.Even now, it called.“Lyra!” The silent whisper of my name against the wind. My ears itched, and I sat up.This time around, I followed my instincts and allowed the voice to lead me.I walked out of the room and out of the palace.“Come!” The voice kept saying it, and I kept moving.Soon, I was walking out of the pack territory.I stopped for a moment, allowing my mind to go over my actions. I looked back at the pack. There was no one watching.

Selene POV“You should have warned me ahead.” Idris muttered, his eyes dancing across the room as he paced back and forth.I rolled my eyes. “You don't have to pace like a caged animal.” I replied. “What would it have changed if I did?” I asked.Idris stopped pacing and glared at me. “I could have known about my betrayal ahead of time.”I chuckled. “You should sit then if you would like to hear what I have to say.” When he didn't answer, I raised a brow. “You asked for the truth; now sit.”Idris finally released a deep breath and settled against a stool in the middle of the room.“What do you have to say that will change the fact that I killed my own Beta just to forge a sword to kill Lyra?”I shook my head. “For a man that is bold enough to betray someone who trusted him, you sure have no sense of accountability for your own actions. Killing your Beta was a choice. You could have opted to leave instead.I scoffed. “I would do whatever it takes to get rid of Caelan and his creature. No

Caelan POVIdris was getting closer to achieving his goal. I could feel it.An angry sigh drew my attention back to Thorne before me. He paced for a bit, then stopped.“She is not an ordinary wolf.” Thorne said for the hundredth time.I nodded. “I'm aware.”He blew out a frustrated breath. “I don't think you understand. Lyra is…she is—” he trailed off, and I raised a brow at him.“She is what?” I askedThorne shook his head. “It doesn't matter what she is. But you should know she has the power to destroy all that we know.”I chuckled. “You keep going around in circles. What do you want, Thorne?”After a long silence, he started. “I have heard about the Ashfang Blade.”I stood up, my eyes narrowed. “Who told you?”“I have my ways.” Thorne looked away. “But that doesn’t matter. What matters is that your worst enemy has found a way to destroy you.”“Destroy me? All he has is a blade.” I muttered.Thorne’s eyes widened. “Not just a blade, but a magic blade. You know the history. You've he
