Louisa I stood in front of Kane’s door, hand poised to knock again, though I’d already done so once with no response. I was sure he was home, he had to be.Lately, I haven't been myself. I have been thinking of how wrong I was to make him believe he was the father of my child. The guilt gnawed at me constantly, eating away at whatever peace I had left. He was barely at home and when he was, we barely made eye contact. That only made the ache in my chest worse. I barely could even sleep.I took a deep breath, steeling myself to knock again, then paused the moment the soft scent of his body wash drifted through the door. A second later, the faint sound of the bathroom door clicking shut reached my ears, followed by his low humming.Of course he was in there, I knocked again, more firmly this time and the humming stopped.“Who’s there?” he growled, his voice rough and sharp through the door.I flinched. It was late at night, so I guess he felt irritated to be disturbed at such an odd h

Louisa I stared at the cake a moment longer, the apology in sugary script sitting heavily on my chest. “I’m sorry for my distance lately.” But why was he suddenly apologising? What changed? I closed the lid gently, almost as if sealing away the confusion it came with, and placed it back on the table. I wasn’t ready to process it just yet. With a soft sigh, I crawled back onto my bed, picked up the book I’d abandoned earlier and curled into my side once more. The words on the page tried to pull me in, and for a while, they did, offering a momentary escape from everything spiralling around me. But my thoughts kept looping back to Kane and his mysterious cake. Well, I couldn't help but smile at the kind gesture. My eyelids grew heavier with every page, and before long, the book slipped from my hands and landed softly on the floor beside the bed. I drifted off, still wondering what it all meant. When I stirred again, the room was dimmer, kissed in the fading glow of early e

Louisa Something gnawed at me, an uneasy tug in my gut that wouldn’t let go. I had to see what he intended to do with the cake.I leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to Jasmine’s cheek. “I’ll be right back,” I whispered.Slipping out of the room, I padded quietly down the hallway. Just as I neared the turn that led to Alpha Kane’s quarters, I heard footsteps behind me and my heart skipped a beat.I froze but before I could even spin around, a sudden force slammed into my back. My breath caught in my throat as I tumbled forward, my body twisting mid-air before crashing down the staircase.I hit each step hard until my head collided with something sharp, glass maybe. The impact stole the air from my lungs, and a blinding pain burst behind my eyes. I landed sprawled on the sitting room floor, feeling a piercing pain on my head. Everywhere became blurry and slowly, I lost consciousness. When I opened my eyes again, everything felt strange. I blinked slowly, the ceiling unfamiliar, my bod

Louisa The coldness clinging to my limbs had begun to numb even my fear. I hovered somewhere between fading in and falling apart, my mind flickering in and out of blurred images and static memories that didn’t belong to me or maybe they did. His face was so clear, but the strange thing was that in my memory, I had called him Alpha Keleb, not Jace. The door burst open again, this time louder, with urgent voices. I forced my eyes open barely. The light seared my vision, I was slowly dying. Through the haze, I saw Elizabeth and Tessa entering. Was that really the help she could get? Someone who clearly wants me dead, someone who perhaps poisoned the cake. The moment her high heels clicked against the floor, my stomach dropped. That voice, I would recognize its smugness even at the edge of death. “Oh my goddess,” Tessa gasped, but there was no grief in her voice. “She looks terrible.” She leaned over me, wrinkling her nose. “And perfect……. I hate to tell you I told you so but I did

Scott “She was stabbed to death by Alpha Kaleb on what was meant to be her wedding day.” She blurted out, throwing her gaze back at me. Oh no! I have heard the stories so many times. My grandfather made her believe their union would begin a truce between the werewolves and the witches. Instead, he used her to lure her coven into our home and he killed every last one of them Fear began creeping in; my feet trembled, but I refused to show it. Agnes Hale had a good reason to want vengeance on the family who destroyed hers and there was nothing I knew I could do to appease her. Regardless, I couldn't just sit down and let someone killed about fifty years ago destroy me. There had to be a loophole. Jace, on the other hand, who was a carbon copy of how my grandfather looked in his early youth days, stared at the witch for quite some time. She took a deep and then sat on a couch, facing us. There was this tension lingering in her eyes, like all was about to change. She extended her han
