{Lyra}I barely had time to scream as Odessa launched herself directly at the monstrous creature. They collided in midair before being forced back by the impact. She moved very fast, way faster than I did when I shifted for the first time, but her movements were a bit clumsy. She managed to hit the creature square in the chest with her front paws and clawed wildly at its scorched skin while it screeched and snapped its fangs at her throat.“Odessa!” I charged in without thinking. The creature reared back and flung its claws, nearly catching her. She managed to dodge it by a whisker, and I caught its attention with a growl. It twisted to face me just as I sprang, ramming into its ribcage with enough force to lift it off the ground. We tumbled, rolled, and I bit down into what I guessed was its shoulder. The taste was incredibly disgusting, like biting into charcoal and rot, but I didn’t let go until Odessa lunged in beside me, slashing at its exposed side.We fought side by side for wh

{Dominic}The Spirit Gazel lowered its head to graze, blissfully unaware of the tension between the two Alphas that were glaring at each other.Grimhold’s eyes flickered to it for half a second, and that was all I needed.I lunged forward, my paws digging into the ground and springing me into the air. But just as my claws stretched to make contact, Grimhold slammed into me.We collided midair like two boulders crashing together, and the impact flung us both backward. I hit the ground with a rough grunt, as air left my lungs, and by the time I rolled to my feet, the Gazel was bolting through the trees.“Damn it!” I growled, lunging forward to chase it, but something grabbed onto my hind leg and yanked me back. I looked back just in time to see Grimhold’s jaw clamp onto my leg.He dragged me backward with surprising strength, slamming me into the trunk of a crooked tree. The bark cracked under the impact, and for a second, I lost consciousness.A low snarl ripped through my throat as I

{Lyra}“Ryker handled it.” I answered without breaking eye contact. “I did exactly what you told me to, I called him and made sure to say code black. After I did, he showed up at the house in minutes.”Dominic took a sip of his wine, but his full attention was on my lips as I kept going. “He made sure Odessa and I were okay, then he set up a perimeter around the entire mansion and doubled the security. When he was sure everything was perfect, he asked me to show him where it happened.”I wrapped my hands around the stem of my glass and stared out into the night as the memories of two days ago flickered in my mind.“So we had the driver take us out there, and I led him to the exact spot where I and Odessa fought that thing. When we got there, there was this patch of ground with nothing growing,” I said softly. “No grass, no plants, not even a random weed like you'd usually find. Just this weird, empty circle of dirt.”He dropped his glass on the table and sat up straighter.“I walked

{Dominic}I regretted the words the very minute they left my mouth but sadly, there was nothing I could say or do to come back from that. Over the next few days, Evangeline changed completely. The usual warmth and kindness in her eyes seemed to just disappear. At least it wasn't there whenever she looked at me. Still, I caught glimpses of it whenever she was talking to Odessa or Isaac. Even Mirabel got a warmer reception than I ever hoped to. Her lips would curl upward slowly, and her mouth would open to reveal the most beautiful smile I'd ever seen. Even her laugh was the stuff of daydreams. I would give anything just to have her giggle in my direction. But sadly, all I got was stiff nods and the most heartbreaking poker face in the East. That morning, the scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted into my nose the second Mirabel brought in the tray. She set it down on the coffee table before bowing and walking out.Evangeline didn’t look at me once since she woke up.Her hair was sti

{Lyra}“What do you mean?” I asked, feigning ignorance.Reina scrunched up her brow and let out a very unladylike huff, “Come on, Lyra, you can’t fool me.” She said with a hint of pride in her voice. “There’s clearly something going on between you two.”“And what makes you so sure?” I challenged, lifting my chin slightly, hoping she would back down.“Uhmm… how about the way you keep laying it on a bit too thick for starters.” “A bit too thick?” I raised a brow. “What are you even talking about?”“I saw the way you were acting out there, the fake smiles and the pacifying tone you kept talking in. You might be able to fool them, but you can’t fool me. There’s clearly something wrong.”“Reina, there’s nothing wrong,” I said, a little too fast. “And what is it with you and confronting me in bathrooms for goddess’ sake?”Reina rolled her eyes dramatically. “Cut the crap, Lyra, it’s beneath you. Is everything okay?”“Yeah,” I said, but I heard my voice waver, and so did she, because her e
