Two days passed in the blink of an eye, and soon enough, it was the day of the hunt. The usual pre-wedding hunt was in full swing, with many wolves enjoying themselves and participating in the grand hunt. But mine wasn’t so easy, or fun.

I stood at the borders of a forest with a dozen Elders staring straight at me, cloaked in their ceremonial robes and smelling like old wolf musk.

This obviously wasn’t your normal hunt. It wasn’t the kind where younger wolves would sprint through pine groves chasing deer and howling for fun before leaping into rivers with their mates. No… this was The Hunt of the Hollow Woods.

And it hadn’t happened in twenty years, or at least that’s what the Grimhold council of Elders had been whispering all this while..

Beside me, Grimhold adjusted his heavy belt, a gleaming silver dagger strapped to his thigh, which, if you thought about it, was really more symbolic than useful. His eyes glinted with an eerie amber sheen, then locked onto mine.
