Nathan’s POVNothing, no single word that I can think of, can appropriately describe the rage that fills my entire being when I see what Austin is doing to Lucy, and when I see her split lip and the fear in her eyes.It takes everything I have in me not to pound him into a pulp until the breath leaves his body, but in the end, I manage to restrain myself, after which the police arrive and take him into custody.Needless to say, but the party comes to a slow but sure end after that. The next few hours are a nightmare of activities, and by the time it is all over and Austin is in jail, where he belongs, I’m tired as hell.By the time I’m finally done and head home to get a much-needed rest, I find a nasty surprise in the form of Diane waiting for me there.I can't say that I'm surprised by her presence. In fact, I'm surprised that it has taken this long for her to show up. Now that the party is over, it is time to face what I have been avoiding … which is the scary news of her being pr

Nathan’s POVAs I finish uttering those words, Diane's mouth closes and opens like a fish out of water. The words have clearly shocked her, and she seems at a loss as to what to do.It's crazy that she really believed that threatening me with the police would make me agree to marry her, which begs the question of why she's so desperate to get married, and to me, of all people. “So you're cool with going to jail and with everyone knowing what you did to my brother?” She asks at last.“How about we start with the fact that I was a teenager when it happened, so I was, for all intents and purposes, a minor, who wouldn’t have been tried as an adult. While we're at it, let’s also mention the essential fact that I didn’t actually kill Drew, so I definitely won't be going to jail now either, even if you told the police.”“You murdered him. I was there that night, and I saw and heard everything. I could hear you both fighting and yelling at each other over that dumb girl … Clarissa or whateve

Nathan’s POVBy the time I finish talking, Diane is sobbing pitifully. I keep quiet and allow her to assimilate everything I have said. I'm seriously battling the urge to sleep, considering how late it is and how tired I am. Finally, she wipes her eyes and speaks.“So … so what about our baby? You don't think he deserves a functional family with both his parents living under one roof?” She asks. These questions throw me off guard, and it takes me a good several seconds to follow her train of thought, since the question that she's asking is so far removed from what I spent all this time telling her."So you have nothing to say about your brother, whom you were just crying for?” I ask her in surprise. Her phone vibrates loudly before she can reply, and she glances at it impatiently. As she reads whatever message was sent to her, her eyes widen and she stiffens.I remain silent, just watching her as she rapidly sends a reply. Once she's done, she looks up at me with a self-satisfied smil

Lucy’s POVI don't think I'm out for more than a few minutes, but by the time I come to, I find myself lying on the sofa, with a worried-looking Nathan towering over me.I struggle into a sitting position against his advice for me not to, and try to get up, but he pushes me back into a sitting position.“Are you okay, Lucy? Here, have some water, please.” He says, handing me a cup of water, which I reject and attempt to stand up on wobbly legs.“I … I … need to go,” I mutter. I can't be here with him, and Diane, who is standing in a corner and watching us with narrowed eyes."Lucy, you’re in no shape to drive yourself home. Why not spend the night, and I'll take you home tomorrow morning? If you're not too tired, I can explain everything now. It wasn't my wish to hurt you. I would never do such a thing." Nathan pleads with me."There's nothing to explain, Lucy. I just want you to know that no matter what you decide, I'm going to keep this baby, whether both of you like it or not. So

Lucy's POVI can't wait to get home. I need Amanda’s input on this whole matter. Am I at fault for not stating my expectations as to what I expected from Nathan while having sex with him?Maybe I should have given him the benefit of the doubt to explain himself. What if he was truly drugged like he said? I hadn’t even really been listening to him because of how angry I was, so I barely heard most of what he said. But it’s not like it matters anyway. Like Diane said, the thought of her being Nathan’s baby mama and having to put up with her if I end up with him is enough to give me a headache. It would be a lifetime of troubles, and that’s the last thing I want for myself.“But you’ll also be a staple part of Nathan’s life for at least the next eighteen years, whether you like it or not, except you're willing to get rid of the baby, which you aren’t. So what difference does it make?” The voice inside my head asks me.I’m beginning to have a headache, so I decide to banish all thoughts of
